La Porter Del Templo Vanilla Porter by Cervecería Rámuri is a 5% ABV Mexican Porter brewed with Vanilla.

==Introduction==

On my visit to Tijuana, B.C. in Mexico, I visited Plaza Fiesta located in La Plaza de los Zapatos with my friend Oscar. While we were on a Taco run, he had mentioned about this sanctuary for the craft breweries and pulquerias. When we visited the place, I was amazed as to how much the craftbeer scene in Mexico was alive and well. The location had many on site microbreweries and tasting rooms that we got to try many things. One of the breweries that stood out for us, aside from the many great ones like Insurgente, Legacy, Border Psycho and Donkey Punch, was Ramuri. Ramuri has a vast offering including one beer called the Lágrimas Negras Peanut Butter Stout. That stout was so mind blowing with chocolate peanut butter that we felt it was above even the likes of Belching beaver. Having had a couple of pints of it, I tried to see if we could get a growler to go. Unfortunately, this was not to be. Fortunately, for us the barkeep, David had given us some secret pours like the sour Berliner and the Barleywine. Since I did not want to leave home empty handed, I bought a couple of 6 packs of this beer. This one was one that was not on the taps and it was one I wanted to review for them. So I present to you, an exclusive Mexico craft brew, La Porter Del Templo Vanilla Porter. Cheers!

Aromas:
Rich piloncillo sugar cone, nutmeg, vanilla, hazelnut nectar, toffee, pumpkin notes, chocolate abuelita, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, maple notes, dark fruit prunes, cherries, tobacco notes, brown sugar and anise.

Flavors:
Rich Piloncillo sugar cone, Burnt sugar, toffee, pecan pie, Mexican caramel cajeta, Mexican vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin notes, chocolate abuelita, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, tobacco, leather, molasse, anise hints, dark fruit prunes, plums, raisins, currants, cherries, capirotada raisin bread pudding, candi sugar, hazelnut nectar, maple syrup and coffee cake.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with earthy notes of dark chocolate, milk chocolate, Mexican vanilla, rich piloncillo, burnt sugar and dark fruit. No alcohol in the taste, dark full body, smooth, creamy, and chewy mouthfeel with a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
A perfect vanilla porter. This brew was definitely different from any Vanilla porter I have ever tried. My assumption is that they probably did use some ingredients native to Mexico like the Piloncillo Sugar cone which was definitely prominent in this one. Also, Mexican vanilla is different from other vanilla as well. So the rich and complex flavors coming from this beer, even if 5% ABV, was definitely something that was definitely worth the purchase. That and the fact that I enjoyed their other offerings definitely made it more awesome. If you ever find this one or go to Tijuana for the craftbeer scene, definitely check this place out and their beers.

Anime Corner:
Vocaloid Megurine Luka was used this pairing as I wanted to pair with some of the colors of the label and the beer flavors. Also, in the name, it mentions La Porter del Templo or the Porter of the Temple which I would believe is in reference to Belgian or Abbey beer tributes. Hence, the reasons why I have Luka with a cloak like the monks. All in all, it fit the scene of the pairing well I think.

Las Manza Cronicas De BatFramb by Nubis Sanctum Ales is a 9% ABV Hard Apple Cider made with Raspberries.

12698330_10103102361744160_7088169237685224871_o==Introduction==
Project # 20 continues in my pursuit to make different flavors of ciders and basically to see which one I like more. The raspberry cider one came about from the love I have for Raspberry brews. In fact, the Raging Passio Lactus Raspear Dragons had a base primary of raspberry which I loved from the inspiration of New Holland’s Dragon’s Milk Reserve with Raspberries. This cider uses the most basic approach, creating a simple apple cider by fermentation and add organic raspberry flavor at the bottling. I also added a dash of organic apple cider flavor as this was needed to balance since the base cider is pretty much super dry apple wine right off the fermentor. Setting this up with me new mini PET keg was the best choice as I was able to get a nice froth pour but promptly dissipated. Something about getting beer from the tap seems to make beer or cider very enjoyable. Let’s see how this new creation of mine stands.

Aromas:
Apple pie, Raspberries, cherry notes, vanilla cream, honey, dark fruit hints and stone fruit notes.

Flavors:
Raspberries, Dark Cherries, cinnamon, pomegranate, Honey dew melon, apple pie notes, plums, stone fruit peaches, honey, grapes, vanilla, caramel, strawberry hints, cane sugar and Danish cream hints.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with semi dry notes of apple cider, raspberries, apple pie hints and vanilla notes. No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV, Golden Amber clear body, clear light golden body, creamy, crisp, clean and super refreshing mouthfeel and very easy to drink.

Overall:
A very delicious cider. While it is not very difficult to make but I think just the combination of the ingredients used make for one delicious cider. It is not super complex but dead on with the purpose of what it supposed to be. I feel as I make more of these, it gives me more of a grasp as how to make more and more delicious ciders. While it is simple, I will want to advance the recipe sometime by making this with actual fruits to see how it goes. I make my beers with actual fruits so why not this one too? For the most part, I really loved this one and hope my next one is just as good.

Anime Corner:
Ignis from Jingai Makyō was used in this pairing as I wanted something to pair with the colors of the raspberries. The name of the brew in English is a play on words, The Apple-y Chronicles of Bat Raspberries but since she wears the outfit with bats, I wanted something that sounded like Batman. In this case, Batwoman. The colors pair well with the raspberries and mild dark fruit hints from her eyes and the white and black represents the creamy aspect in the taste.

==Introduction==
12043051_10103089759055050_5161831082288574054_n
Project# 19 came up as the eventual need to go back to something basic. The fact that I have not been making ciders in and while my ciders have all been Belgian inspired, this was my first opportunity to make cider with the basic cider yeast. Nothing too fancy but definitely something of experimenting with natural and organic flavorings. As many should know by now, some ciders made commercially are like this. I will be making more of an actual cider using real fruits but for now, my attempts to mimic the common came to question, How good of a cider can I make with just simple to get ingredients and little effort? Don’t get me wrong, it still enough work to make sure it is made correctly, but I wanted to contrast this versus what I have done with beer which is drastically different amount of workload. Regardless, I bring forth my new creation. Let’s see how this one came out, Cheers!

Aromas:
Apple cider, passion fruit, mango, peach, pineapple hints, vanilla hints, cane sugar and stone fruits.

Flavors:
Passion fruit, Mango, Pineapple, Apples, Stone fruit peach, apricot notes, honey, starburst candy, strawberry notes, honey dew melon, agave nectar, cane sugar, grapes, vanilla and guava hints.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with notes of the mango and the passion fruit. No alcohol in the flavor, clear light golden body, crisp, clean and super refreshing mouthfeel and very easy to drink.

Overall:
A very good cider. Not much to it really in terms of complexity but damn is this very drinkable, super delicious and great for the coming summer. Who would of thought just going to the basics can be rewarding. Even if it is not super complex or a lot of work like brewing it proves one thing, if you really want to make your own fermented beverage, ciders and wine are on the easier end. Next time, I’ll want to make this with the real fruits to see the difference.

Anime Corner:
Android 18/Lazuli, Trunks and Vegeta from the Dragon Ball series were used in this pairing to represent the Passion Fruit and the Mango. In the series, Vegeta and his son Trunks both get beat down by Android 18. While they still have the passion to keep going, in they still lose. The representation here is pretty much like punishment for making something so easy using basic ingredients. Many people may see it as cheating in some context but as long as you keep trying different things, you will eventually find great things. Plus, Vegeta’s hair as a super saiyan looks like a dried mango and the cider is all yellow like Android 18 and both Super saiyan’s hair.

Monarch’s Imperial Stout by Avila Ales

Monarch’s Imperial Stout by Avila Ales is a ~9% ABV Imperial Stout brewed with Hawaiian Coffee.

==Introduction==

Brewed at my place, Nubis Sanctum, my friend Richard Avila of Avila Ales. A luscious imperial stout which was made back in November with rich Hawaiian Coffee and had aged for several months. Tribute for the beer comes with the addition of the Hawaiian coffee and the heritage of my friend’s wife, Megan Avila who is from Hawaii. The name originated from royalty as the Avila Ales label has a crown in the logo. The name of Monarch is in reference to King Kamehameha who ruled over the other islands. Overall, it was a well-fitting name for this Imperial Stout. Thanks to my friend Richard for sharing this brew and hope to try many more in the future. Cheers!

Aromas:
Roasted Coffee, mocha, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, bakers chocolate, dark fruit currants, cherry hints, espresso notes, Kahlua coffee notes, toasted coconut and brown sugar.

Flavors:
Dark Chocolate, milk chocolate, bakers chocolate, mocha, espresso hints, roasted coffee, marshmallows, graham crackers, dark fruit currants, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, Kahlua liquor, rocky road ice cream, pecan pie notes, hazelnut nectar, vanilla, caramel, toasted coconut, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, leather and tobacco notes.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with notes dark fruit, toasted coconut, fancy roasted coffee, earthy notes and dark chocolate. No alcohol in the taste, dark full body, creamy, smooth and silky mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A perfect and well-made Imperial Stout. Like the Barleywine from before, this beer is one of my friend Richard’s best beers. It has everything I love from imperial stouts like the dark chocolate, dark fruits, vanilla caramel, coffee and more. It really hit home, especially I think due to the Hawaiian coffee influence on this brew, that it reminded me of my first imperial stout, Sangrileche. Granted, Sangrileche is oak aged, still, this beer has those notes I really liked and was a definite winner. I hope my friend makes this one again.

Anime Corner:
Queen Nemor of Dragon ball Ultimate Crossover wiki was used in this pairing as I wanted to use a Dragon Ball reference. Goku’s Kamehameha was named from the King of Hawaii. In the Dragon Ball universe, the rulers of his home planet Vegeta are the most common royalty that I know of. So to go with the theme of royalty and Kamehameha, I used Queen Nemor. While Nemor is the ruler of the previous Planent before Vegeta’s planet (Planet Plant), it was the closest I could do to royalty but also a bad ass looking female royal. While I do think Nemor is merely fictional or created for the purpose of introducing who ruled the saiyans before Planet Vegeta, this seemed to fit well in my mind.

Not Your Father’s Ginger Ale by Small Town brewery

10649795_10103153466085650_4486676957507256294_nRating: 3.75/5

Not Your Father’s Ginger Ale by Small Town brewery is a 5.9% ABV Spiced Ale brewed with Ginger.

Label:
This is beer flavored with spices. We like to think of it as a refreshing ale with ginger, best served chilled or poured in a glass over ice. We know you’ll enjoy it, we do.

==Introduction==

I picked up a 6 pack at local Lucky’s grocery store near my house. Having enjoyed the rootbeer they first released, I wanted to try out their new creation and see how it fared. They will be releasing a vanilla cream one so I definitely want to check that out. I realize this is not beer so my rating is based not in terms of beer but just what I think of it. Let’s check this one out. Cheers!

Aromas:
Vanilla, honey, butterscotch, ginger spice, lemon, lime soda, apple notes and cane sugar.

Flavors:
Ginger spice up front, honey, butterscotch, vanilla, cane sugar, lemon, lime soda, apples, cane sugar, peach notes, peppercorns and green tea hints.

Aftertaste:
Ginger spice is present in the aftertaste finishing very dry with cane sugar hints.No alcohol in the taste. Clear golden light body, crisp, refreshing and effervescent mouthfeel and very easy to drink.

Overall:
A pretty good Ginger ale. It really just taste like a regular ginger ale soda. The flavors and spices mask the alcohol extremely well. For this being an alcoholic ginger ale, they nailed it pretty well. Although it is not in the regular beer or ale category for sure. Their root beer was the same although I liked that one more as a root beer. This one was enjoyable regardless and would recommend a try.

Anime Corner:
Terumi Mei from Naruto was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair a ginger with a ginger ale, simple as that. Since I have not used her in a beer pairing, I thought it be the perfect opportunity to do so. Also, her bathing suit pairs well with the beach scenery of the label.

Ban-Anna’s Love Diablita De Leche Nectar by Nubis Sanctum Ales

10001197_10103117644756880_7627100034381002526_oRating: 6/6

Ban-Anna’s Love Diablita De Leche Nectar by Nubis Sanctum Ales is a 10% ABV Doppel Weizenbock brewed with Bananas and Goat Milk Dulce De leche Caramel aged in White Grape Wine.

Label:
“They Say The Devil’s water it ain’t so sweet”…

Whoever said this has never tried it to begin with. Everyone has a sinful pleasure but none have ever made it a mission …

Until Anna came to bring these inner desires to manifestation the day she met with a mysterious woman who gave her a magic potion.

Since that time, Anna has had the magic touch. A simple drop or a touch from her would bring people’s most inner desires out. However, the more Anna shared, the more of her inner devil started to manifest.  She was a kind hearted devil though. Unlike the tales told.

Myth would have you believe that the root of all desserts stemmed from this very potion. Some say that what Anna drank was actually this ‘devil’s water’. Whether the mysterious lady from that day was an Angel or a Devil, the potion is enough to turn the holiest of man into a sinner.

Ingredients: Water, Malts, Hops, Bananas, Vanilla, Coronado Dulce de Leche Cajeta Caramel aged in White Grape Wine and Yeast.

Project #17 pays tribute to my need of making a beer similar to the Bananas Foster’s beer from Buffalo Bayou which was given to me a couple months ago by my friend Aaron Mendiola of www.beermetaldude.com. I had always wanted to make a Weizenbock for a long time ago since the style pays tribute to the Doppel Bocks and Dunkelweizens which are some of my favorite styles from Germany. Lucky for me, the Bananas Foster was a Weizenbock. Hence where I got a crazy idea of making something similar but taking my own experimentation into consideration. Essentially, I wanted to implement Coronado Dulce De Leche Cajeta de Cabra into the mix. It is a Mexican Dulce de Leche with Caramel which was aged in White Grape Wine or what they call, Envinado. Also, since I wanted to make a beer that would go well into a beer float. The more the better to make a delicious style such as this. I don’t think the implementation of Goat Milk Caramel has ever been done in a beer so it was definitely a chance to make something unique and special. Aside from the base weizenbock extract recipe I researched, I added a lot of Crystal 40 malts which made my partial mash even bigger. With all the ingredients in place I had something very special to work with. So after a long time, basically 10 weeks of waiting and racking done, here is the brew! Cheers!

Aromas:
Rich Bananas, dulce de leche caramel, goat milk, vanilla, dark fruit raisins, plums, cherries, currants, piloncillo sugar one, bubble gum, stone fruit peaches, pecan pie, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, Chunky Munkey ice cream, walnuts, plantains, tres leches cake, coffee cake, banana nut bread and flan hints
12801160_10103117646154080_5105050279066731204_n
Flavors:
Mexican Dulce de leche Goat Milk Caramel, vanilla, grilled bananas, clove spice, banana bread, coffee cake, pecan pie, sweetened condensed milk, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, coriander, wheat bread, rye bread, toasted rye bread, hazelnut nectar, stone fruit apricot and peach notes, leather hints, bubble gum, capirotada raisin bread pudding, piloncillo sugar cone, plantains, cinnamon hints, fruit cake, Chunky Munkey ice cream, grape wine notes, tres leches cake, flan, banana cream pie, toffee, cane sugar, rum hints, walnuts and Nutella hints.

Aftertaste:
Finishing up with bananas, goat milk dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, bubble gum, earthy notes, dark fruit, flan, tres leches cake, stone fruits, coriander spice, plantains, clove spice hints, and dark cherry notes. No alcohol in the taste, Crimson Blood and Dark medium Body, smooth, creamy, syrupy and chewy mouthfeel along with moderate drinkability.
12829404_10103117647017350_7862658038835570667_oOverall:
Yet another crazy experiment done successful. This came out to be such a very delicious brew that it truly is orgasmic! I was concerned about this project big time since I got some sediment left over since there was so much banana in the brew (About 25 bananas!!) When it came to the caramel, I was concerned about how to add it to the brew in secondary since caramel the caramel is made with Goat’s milk and you could really smell it when I boiled the caramel with water. I stuck to my guns and said fuck it, all in the name of good beer and experimentation. I am so thankful that the people that have tried it so far have really liked it and even though it was a one off batch of brew, I definitely would like to make this again and proceed with other experiments as well. Hope to some day make enough for some beer enthusiasts like yourself to try some day. Cheers!
12829343_10103105966470260_6006963412419146236_o
Anime Corner: (tl;dr)
Anna Nishikinomiya from Shimoneta, Asmodeus and Astaroth from Shinrabansho were used in this beer for many many reasons. During the research to make this beer, my friend Steven Blackburn from Iowa and I joked about the scene in Shimoneta where the girl Anna infused her “love nectar” into her cookies. So we basically discussed, if this beer is to be a true dessert, it has to be so damn good like a true nectar of gods. A beer that will basically make you orgasm since it would be so rich and ddelicious Essentially, all the sweetness from the bananas and caramel would become love nectar. The fact that I combined Anna on the label with Asmodeus is a play at the beer style, a DoppelWeizenbock or Double Buck/Goat Wheat beer. It is almost like a duality, Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hide kind of thing. Also, since goats have been used in some cultures to represent devils, I think it was fitting to put both Asmodeus and Astaroth on the label as well. This and the back that I literally used a Goat’s milk caramel into the beer, just adds to how much more the ingredients paired so well with the Weizenbock. The Doppel aspect also notes the fact that the beer is a stronger or Double/Imperial beer at 10%. In this beer, the Banana aspect, you can see Anna’s name is in Banana, and the whole Diablita de Leche is a play on the words Devil’s Milk. So you can see how I related Goat and Devil there. So then the whole thing with Astaroh and Asmodeus together is the Doppel Bock. Also, Since the grain bag burned a tiny bit at the bottom, the bitter earthiness of the brew can be seen as the burning of hell fire. Oh and Anna becomes Asmodeus after too much Love Nectar. Hope I covered everything.

2015 Wreck Alley by Karl Strauss is a 9% ABV Imperial Stout brewed with cocoa nibs and Ethiopian coffee beans from Bird Rock Coffee Roasters.

Label:
Beneath the tides off Mission Beach rests Wreck Alley – a dark and mysterious seascape of forgotten ships. Amidst the rusted wreckage is a marine ecosystem, an artificial reef teeming with life. Our Wreck Alley is as dark as the depths of its namesake, an Imperial Stout of uncharted complexity. Brewed with darkly kilned malts, cocoa nibs, and Ethiopian coffee beans sourced by our friends at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Wreck Alley boasts rich layers of dark chocolate, toffee, and espresso-like roast.

==Introduction==

Got this one off one of my local markets. It has been a long time since I tried this beer and I wanted to bring it back for a re-review as I saw they are using a different brand of coffee with this brew. That and I do recall how much I liked this one back then so I figure, why not bring it back to the website for good ol’ time sakes. This time, Karl Strauss collabs with Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in San Diego. So it is good to see what new flavors might come about with this blending. Time for the beer, Cheers!

Aromas:
Coffee, Mocha, Kahlua liqueur hints , Dark Chocolate, milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, coconut hints, tobacco notes, brown sugar, marshmallow smores, rocky road ice cream hints and toffee.

Flavors:
Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, German chocolate, Baker’s chocolate, earthy hop hints, espresso, mocha, roasted coffee, toffee, tobacco notes, licorice, anise, molasses, brownie batter, vanilla, caramel, toasted coconut, marshmallows, smores, rocky road notes, dark fruit raisins, cherries, Coffee cake, Chocolate cake, crème brulee hints, steamed milk, Irish cream and Kahlua liqueur notes.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, dark fruit, earthy notes, vanilla and caramel notes. No alcohol in the taste, pitch black dark body, smooth, creamy, and mildly chewy mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious stout just like I remember it. While I have had many stouts in the past, this one brings back memories of how well it was made. It is still well made and delicious. A common go to beer for sure especially since it is readily available. Now that I see it often near me, I will be getting this one often. I recommend this one.

Anime Corner:
Etna from Disgaea was chosen to return to the brew like I did with the original review of the Wreck Alley Stout. At the time, one of the reasons I had chosen her to do the pairing was due to the dark and evil face which would make up the dark water this is but also her surrounding of rubble seeming like she brings death and destruction. Although she may seem like that on the outside. She really is a sweet heart in reality and in the series. I just like how well she paired back then with the idea so I added some new pictures that would fit with that aspect of wrecks, destructions and corruption but really is sweet like the taste of the beer is. Don’t judge books by their covers!

Kum Together by El Borracho Homebrewing

1150873_10103117638559300_3886264520300131288_nRating: 4.75/5

Kum Together by El Borracho Homebrewing is a 4.3% ABV American wheat ale brewed with kumquats, lemon zest and coriander.

==Introduction==

Another brew that I was able to get from my friend and fellow homebrewer, William Carranza. This brew idea came up as he had received several Kumquats as a gift and the idea of experimenting with different ingredients. Coming up with the name was based on using words that related to the work Kumquats. Yeah it would have been so easy to just give it an innuendoes name but something not to offend the weak, he got another name. So The Beatles song “Come Together” came to mind and so he named it, Kum Together. A wheat ale in the style of the Americas which already likes to add citrus to their beers enhanced the style since no additional fruit would be needed to make this one good. Let’s take a look, Cheers!

Aromas:
Coriander spice, Kumquats, lemon hints, strawberry hints, Grapefruit, citrus and piney hop notes, cane sugar, stone fruits, vanilla hints and tropical fruits.

Flavors:
Grapefruit, citrus and piney hop notes, Oranges, Kumquats, Orange preserves on wheat, tangerine gummies, kumquat peels, lemon peels, coriander spice, mild fruity pebbles notes, strawberry notes, raspberry jelly on rye bread, vanilla, caramel, stone fruit peaches, apple hints, mango hints, lychee candies, guava notes, prickly pear tuna, dragon fruit notes, passion fruit hints and cane sugar.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with notes of coriander, tangerine gummies, grapefruit hops, stone fruit, citrus, lemon peel, Kumquat notes and tropical fruit hints. No alcohol in the taste, Golden honey colored light body, crisp, clean, refreshing and smooth mouthfeel and easy to drink.

Overall:
A very delicious brew. Tasted so good like orange and tropical candies that it was difficult for me to see which ingredient or combination thereof imparted the greatest contribution to these sweet flavors. It was definitely enjoyable and close to a Pale Ale but definitely and American Wheat. Very refreshing and hope to enjoy this one again. Cheers Will!

Anime Corner:
Claire “Lightning” Farron, Kain, Jecht, Vaan from the Final Fantasy series were used in this pairing as I wanted to go with a band theme similar to what my friend chose for the name of the brew, a Beatles Tribute. Other than the colors of the characters representing the flavors, ingredients and colors of the brew, I couldn’t think of anything else that would pair with the brew other than this being awesome artwork and how the brew flows well like the music.

2015 Bourbon County Brand Stout by Goose Island Beer Co.

2015 Bourbon County Brand Stout by Goose Island Beer Co. is a 14.2% ABV Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels.

Label:
Intense Aromas of charred oak, oak, vanilla, caramel & smoke

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
“I really wanted to do something special for our 1000th batch at the original brewpub. Goose Island could have thrown a party. But we did something better. We brewed a beer. A really big batch of stout-so big the malt was coming out of the top of the mash tun. After fermentation we brought in some bourbon barrels to age the stout. One hundred and fifty days later, Bourbon County Stout was born-A liquid as dark and dense as a black hole with a thick foam the color of bourbon barrels. The nose is a mix of charred oak, vanilla, caramel and smoke. One sip has more flavor than your average case of beer. It overpowers anything in the room. People have even said that it’s a great cigar beer, but I haven’t yet tried a cigar that would stand up to it.” Brewmaster Greg Hall;
IBU’s 60-High Color – Midnight

==Introduction==

I received this one as a gift by my new friend Joseph Taitano whom I was introduced by my friend Augie Escobedo, both of BeerBumz on Facebook. After making the impression with my homebrews at the beer session, I was humbled with this gift and I gracefully accepted. I haven’t tried Bourbon County in a while and this being the 2015 version, I decided to bring it to the site for old time sakes and since I had it on hand. One of the beers along with others that started the trend of being able to barrel age brews to raise them into new flavor experiences. A level up if you will. Definitely something that has been well and consistent over the years despite being owned by InBev, Goose Island makes some very coveted brews. Cheers!

Aromas:
Vanilla, oak, toasted coconut, bourbon, dulce de leche caramel, rocky road ice cream, bananas, flan, Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, German Chocolate, Bakers chocolate, fudge chocolate, dark fruit currants, raisins, blackberries, raspberries, dark cherries, marshmallow smores, pecan pie, almond milk, molasses, anise, tobacco, coffee cake and crème brulee.

Flavors:
Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, German Chocolate, Bakers chocolate, fudge chocolate, vanilla, dulce de leche caramel, oak, bourbon, dark fruit currants, raisins, blackberries, raspberries, dark cherries, plums, chocolate cake, brownie batter, molasses, anise, tobacco, leather hints, flan, Sweetened condensed milk, bananas, clove spice, rocky road ice cream, almond joys, Khalua coffee liqueur, crème brulee, marshmallow smores, rum hints, mocha chocolate, chocolate mousse, Pancho pantera chocolate milk shake, port wine hints, pecan pie, almond milk and fondue.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with a lot of lingering flavors of bourbon, oak, vanilla, toasted coconut, rocky road ice cream, dark chocolate, dark fruit, crème brulee, flan, tobacco and earthy notes. No alcohol in the taste despite ABV, Dark supreme full body, smooth, creamy, velvety and syrupy mouthfeel and sipping drinkability.

Overall:
There’s a reason why this is one of the original brews that started using bourbon barrels to age their beers. Essentially, a staple in the bourbon barrel aged beer scene. A supremely exceptional brew that ranges with the most balanced and best examples of what makes the Bourbon Barrel Aged Beers I love so damn great. With the release of several to more markets, it is nice knowing that some of the brews that inspired the great barrel aging process can now let people be part of history and something special. A must have beer!

Anime Corner:
Franco il Nero from Tre Donne Crudelli “Outlaw Django” is used in this pairing since I had used her in the 2008 Bourbon County pairing to show this one will get you nice a buzzed but also warm you up inside. Also, the whole them of Cowboys and Cowgirls I used in this pairing with the beer because whenever I think of Bourbon and County, I think of the Old west. This beer should have won the west. Since it was the original Bourbon County pairing, it stuck. Also, this year, I added a more of a “County Fair” aspect to it (Yes, since County is in the name). You can see this as “Lily Salvatanna” helps out that girl and you see Franco above the tent with some Ruffians up to no good. Trying to steal some county fair ground goods I’m sure!

Heff By Black Cherries – Chapter 2: And In The Darkness of Cherries Bind them by Nubis Sanctum Ales

Heff By Black Cherries – Chapter 2: And In The Darkness of Cherries Bind them by Nubis Sanctum Ales is a 5.6% ABV German Hefeweizen brewed with Organic Black Cherry juice.

==Introduction==

12471520_10103011321304930_52753629154939362142_o
Project # 16 pays tribute and the return of an old favorite from last year. I brewed this recipe last year as a Dunkelweizen and this year I brought it back making some slight adjustments to the recipe and using the Weihenstephan Weizen Yeast strain as well as different malt and hops. This is the results. In an attempt to make this beer, as it was dubbed a winner among many of my family and friends who typically drink light beer, I had to bring it back. In this project, now coming from several batches in, I hope it is still as great as what I remember. It is still dark heff like before but I think falls more towards the regular heff style. Let’s see what I find, cheers!

Aromas:
Bananas, dark cherry notes, stone fruits, honey, citrus, fruity pebbles hints, coriander spice, clove spice, brown sugar, vanilla and caramel.

Flavors:
Dark fruit raisins, dark cherries, figs, dates, Bananas, banana cream pie, clove spice, tart raspberry hints, coriander spice, clove spice, candi sugar, vanilla, honey, orange peels, citrus, toffee, caramel, stone fruit peach, apricots, earthy hop notes, crème brulee, dark cherry preserves on rye toast and flan.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with a minor tart yet citrusy hop finish with the notes of dark fruit raisins, dark cherries, bananas, clove spice, peach hints, earthy hops and honey. No alcohol in the taste, honey colored hazy full body, crisp, refreshing, smooth and an easy drinkability.

Overall:
A very good hefeweizen and definitely better than the one I made last yeast. I think by slightly adjusting the recipe, it did pay off as there seems to be more of a balance between the sweet, bitter and tartyness. Right off the bat, the brew is sweet and tart and balanced. As it warms up, that’s where it gets much better with in regards to the banana split like flavors. I think the flavors of the cherry really blended well with the banana clove spices of the yeast making a beer that I could definitely call a flash ship for sure.

Anime Corner:
Ruby Rose from RWBY was used in this pairing to mainly to represent the Black Cherries of the beer. She was used similarly in chapter one but since the beer became so delicious, by making a return, it would entice the drinker into wanting even more since the recipe would be better this time around. You see, the name of And Through the Darkness of Cherries Bind Them, goes so well with the second picture where she is about to decapitate the wolf as the wolf is so bound by her, “Heff” is inevitable. The name Heff By Black Cherries is a pun at Death By Black Cherries as since Ruby carries around a scythe, I thought it was perfect as she is the “Black Cherry Death that causes the Heff to be Heffed.” So for those that drink this beer, they are immediately enticed and cannot escape Heff!! Rose petals represent the cherries swirling as the beer is surrounded in cherry flavor. Lots of great things going with this beer!

2016 Les Ronces by the Bruery Terreux

2016 Les Ronces by the Bruery Terreux is a 6.0% ABV is an American Wild ale with Boysenberries aged in Oak Barrels.

Label:
JAMMY – PUCKERING – QUAFFABLE

Commercial description:
Loosely translated as “The Brambles”, Les Ronces is rooted in Southern California charm. The juicy fruit was commercially brought to life near Bruery Terreux at Knott’s farm in Buena Park, California in the early 1930s. Since their peak in popularity, the berries have become more scarce and elusive, and at the same time, an ideal cohort for our wildly traditional bière. In Les Ronces, the boysenberries impart a reddish-purple hue to the oak-aged ale, with their sweet-tart flavor profile complementing the sour blonde base in a light jammy, puckering and refreshing fashion.
==Introduction==

Released to 2016 Reserve and Hoarders, this sour was made with the Bruery trying to use a different variety of fruits for making their sours and beers. All in the name of experimentation. This one though, reminded me of the time I tried the Bramble Rye from Goose Island’s Bourbon County series. If they ever make something like that, I would definitely want to try it. So with this sour, you can say I was intrigued to give it a shot for sure and is the reason I got it and brought it to the site. Some sours are a hit or miss for me from the Bruery. While I like sours, I like maltier beers more. So when it is done right, I definitely enjoy them. Like Jolly Pumpkin for example. So let’s see about this one. Cheers!

Aromas:
Wine grapes, earthy funk, oak, stone fruit peaches, apricots, peppercorn hints, Dark fruit raspberries, boysenberries, toasted rye bread, strawberry jam, lemon peel, honey and caramel notes.

Flavors:
Dark fruit raspberries, boysenberries, raisin hints, tart berry skins, Concorde grapes, wine grapes, Boysenberry preserves on Toasted Rye bread, Strawberry Jam, citrus, lemon peel, cranberries, honey, caramel hints, guava hints, pineapple hints, fruit cake hints, stone fruit peaches, apricots, hibiscus flowers, lavender, brown sugar hints pecan pie hints, funky hay notes, earthy funk, oak and strawberry shortcake.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with hints of dark fruit, earthy funk, oak, wine grapes, lemons, citrus and toasted rye bread. No alcohol in the taste, Ruby Hot Pink clear body, effervescent, puckering, crisp and refreshing mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious and perfect sour showcasing the many tarty and sweet delicious fruits. While it is a sour, the body of the brew and characters of boysenberry preserves on toast do come out. Similarly, this reminds me similarly of what they did with Ruebarb/Windowsill and Gypsy Tart. Essentially, a dessert sour. While the sour and tart flavors are there to balance out the brew as a whole, it makes for one delicious brew if you are into sours. Definitely recommended.

Anime Corner:
Julie-su the Echidna from Sonic the Hedgehog Comics was used in this pairing to go with the label colors, the color of the beer as well as the boysenberries mainly. I have not used her in a Bruery or beer review in general and so I figured with all the colors following close to her colors I thought that this would be a very good fit for the pairing.

2016 So Happens It’s Tuesday by The Bruery

2016 So Happens It’s Tuesday by The Bruery is a 14% ABV Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Label:
IT HAPPENS

A dark and delicious display of rich malts, toasty oak flavors and vanilla-like notes from extended aging in bourbon barrels.

Our infamous Black Tuesday stout is named in honor of the great stock market crash of 1929. So Happens It’s Tuesday is similarly dark and delicious, but in a more affable format, reminding us that there is always a bit of good to be found within the bad. Things happen, life goes on. This beer can be enjoyed in all of those moments and seasons, ideally served at 55°F (13°C) in a tulip or wine glass.

==Introduction==

Released to the Reserve and Hoarders Society members and to the public soon. Essentially, this is supposed to the “Session” version of Black Tuesday. That is a pretty bold statement considering the original is 20%ABV!!!!!!!!!!!! Their original run from 2014 did not make it and so they decided it to rebrew it. At a smaller ABV, I have to see how this fairs. Yes, this is not the same as the Black Tuesday and I know I said I would not review the regular since I did s countless times but this is an exception. I always wanted to bring this “Session” brew to the site, now it is here! Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, German Chocolate, Bakers Chocolate, Rich toasted coconut, oak, bourbon, maple syrup, crème brulee, chocolate cherry cake, Three Milks/Tres Leches cream, mocha hints, dark fruit cherries, prunes, raisins, cocada Mexican coconut candy, dark fruit cherries, raspberries, prunes, raisins, plums, figs, currants and toffee.

Flavors:
Rich Toasted Coconut, oak, bourbon, Dark fruit cherries, raspberries, prunes, raisins, plums, figs, currants, cocada Mexican coconut candy, Dulce de leche caramel, bananas, vanilla, clove spice, marshmallow smores, rocky road ice cream, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, German Chocolate, Bakers Chocolate, brown sugar, maple syrup, crème brulee, chocolate cherry cake, Three Milks/Tres Leches cream, mocha hints, Oreo cookies and cream, Toffee, Piloncillo Sugar Cone, flan, and leche nestle/sweetened condenced milk.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with toasted coconut, vanilla, marshmallow, bourbon, rich dark fruits, caramel, oak, bananas and clove spice. No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV. Pitch black dark like the original, smooth, creamy, syrupy nd velvety mouthfeel and damn drinkable even though the ABV says otherwise. Crazy huh? But I would not doubt it especially for a “session”.

Overall:
An exceptional brew right off the bat! While yes, it is not as super complex or strong ABV wise, this brew is still a Black Tuesday. I think of it as a session especially since it seems that it is too easy to drink even for the ABV. I don’t know what it is that makes it very covetable, but it is. Also, the fact that this might see a public release soon is very thrilling for people that have not tried the regular Black Tuesday. It is a great example of what to expect and more drinkable at that. Definitely get it!

Anime Corner:
Jo from Burst Angel was used in this pairing since her story is similar to KOS-MOS where she did not know she was basically a genetic war machine. Essentially, like KOS-MOS, she learned about her past near the end of the series and her true purpose. Other than the similarities (Both Machines, pilots of Mechs) which I felt best fit my theme of the pairings for Black Tuesday (the collapse of a system for a new age to emerge) This beer’s ingredients and flavors pair well with some of the colors on Jo. I also added one where she is with Meg, her partner to show case some more colors.

Scotch Whisky Barrel Poterie (8th Anniversary Ale) by The Bruery

Scotch Whisky Barrel Poterie (8th Anniversary Ale) by The Bruery is a 14.8% ABV Old Ale aged in Scotch Whisky Barrels.

Label:
This sturdy beer marks our eighth year, and we are grateful for the outpouring of community. Together may our supporters, our brewery and this beer grow in complexity and refinement over the years.

Our eighth anniversary ale, loosely brewed in the English-style Old Ale tradition using our house Belgian yeast strain. This edition was 100% aged in oak barrels that previously held Scotch Whisky, imparting a subtle smoky complexity. Poterie (Pottery) will age gracefully for decades when cellared properly.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Poterie is French for “pottery”, the traditional eight-year anniversary gift. Our eighth anniversary ale, Poterie, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale and fermented with our house yeast strain. This edition was 100% aged in oak barrels that previously held Scotch, imparting a subtle smoky complexity to complement the robust flavors of toffee, caramel, dark fruit, vanilla and oak. Poterie will age gracefully for decades when cellared properly.

==Introduction==

An Anniversary beer this early in the year? What? And a variant no less. Poterie was originally released in January to Hoarders society members. Since they had some extras, it looks like they let Reserve society members have a crack at it. So since that was the case, I was able to bring it to the site. With limited releases of this variant, it would most likely need to be traded unless you buy it from an online site. Why this was released before the regular anniversary, I am not sure. However, it is what it is and I can’t wait to try this new spirit variant. Cheers!

Aromas:
Bananas, Clove spice, raspberry Chambord, maple syrup, graham crackers, brown sugar, Cadbury chocolate cream eggs, Dulce de leche caramel, raspberry Chambord, dark fruit raisins, plums, blueberries, smoked peat, piloncillo sugar cone, flan, marshmallows, fruit cake, pecan pie and sweet condensed milk.

Flavors:
Cadbury chocolate cream eggs, super rich dark fruit raisins, plums, blueberries, smoked peat, toasted coconut, bourbon, scotch whisky, rum notes, oak, chocolate truffle ice cream, Belgian candi sugars, burnt sugar, rich butterscotch, waffle cone, raspberry Chambord, maple syrup, graham crackers, brown sugars, bananas, plantains, molasses, chocolate mousee, capirotada raisin bread pudding, rye bread, port wine, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate cherry cordials, mocha hints, pecan pie, fruit cake, flan, marshmallows, toasted coconut, piloncillo sugar cone, burnt cane sugar, clove spice, nutmeg, hazelnut nectar, blueberry cheesecake and cookie dough ice cream.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with straight up darkfruits, caramels, smoked peat, blueberries, raspberries, vanilla, Scotch whisky hints, bourbon, fruit cake, marshmallow, coconut, and nutty aftertaste. Some alcohol in the aftertaste but not detracting from the rich flavors. Dark crimson brown medium to full body, silky, smooth and creamy mouthfeel and sipping drinkability.

Overall:
Supreme of Supremes!! I don’t know what it is about this brew that I like so much. The solera method they used over the years has seems to have created more complex flavors. It’s that or the fact that this is Scotch Whisky Barrel aged. Which I would assume it can only be the bourbon. I won’t know until I compare this to the regular bourbon anniversary one that comes out nearing May 2016. Either way, I am glad they decided to release this to Reserve Society members so I could bring it to the site and give you some information on it. Definitely highly recommended.

Anime Corner:
Samus Aran from Nintendo’s Metroid series was used in this review as I wanted to pair with the colors of the label. The blues and oranges seem to stand out very well. Also, since I have done a trend on these using characters in body suits, I figured it was perfect. The Poterie aspect in the name works well too as in one of the artworks, her armor is like the color of pottery so her being inside the suit is like the beer being inside a ceramic vase. Definitely creative that is for sure. The complexity and flavors just mimic her character as well as she is both strong and her story is very deep.

2015 Quingenti Millitre Series Batch No. 07 Xocoveza Mocha Stout Charred Collaboration by Chris Banker, Stone Brewing and Cerveceria Insurgente de Mexico is an 10% ABV World Class Milk/Sweet Stout brewed with cocoa, coffee, peppers, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg then aged in Bourbon Barrels.

Label:
Pronuced (SHO-CO-VAY-ZA)

Brewed August 17
The base beer is the recipe of 2014 Stone Homebrew Competition winner Chris Banker, an intensely flavorful milk stout brewed with coffee and spices to mimic the rich flavors of Mexican hot chocolate.

In The Mash
U.S. Pale, Maris Otter Pale, Crystal, Black Patent, Coffee Malt & Chocolate Malt

In The Boil
Challenger & East Kent Golding Hops.

Special Ingredients
Lactose, Flaked Oats, Coffee, Vanilla, Pasilla Peppers, Nutmeg, Cinnamon & Cocoa

Unfiltered and Aged 3 months in American Oak Kentucky Bourbon Barrels.

CELLAR NOTES: Time spent in bourbon barrels gave an already complex beer even more complexity and flavor intensity, layering additional caramel-like and vanilla flavors on top of those already present. Aromas of rich coffee and dark chocolate are followed by nutmeg and cinnamon; a lush, heavy mouthfeel laden with charred oak and toffee engulfs the palate on the first sip. Lingering pasilla pepper and soft oak flavors persist through an exceptionally long finish in this intensely rich and satisfying beer.
==Introduction==

I received this one as a gift by my new friend Joseph Taitano whom I was introduced by my friend Augie Escobedo, both of BeerBumz on Facebook. I had tried the Tequila variant but missed out on getting the Charred one. However, thanks to the wonderful donation, now I can share my thoughts on the beer. The reason I got it was as a special thanks as I had shared my homebrew on a beer tasting session. Every one of which who enjoyed my beers a whole lot. I even got a name, calling me “The Prodigy” of homebrewing. It is true, I have only been brewing beer for a year but the fact that I have been inspired by awesome beers that already exist make me take matters into my on hands and come up with recipes that mimic some of the best beers in the world. While I know I hope to one day make my own brewery, I still need years of experience as well to make it big. So to Augie, Joseph, My friend Will Carranza who introduced me to Augie and to all the BeerBumz as well as my fellow homebrewer Richard Avila, to my friend Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com from Texas and people reading my blogs, Cheers to all and a sincerest Thank You!!! Someday, I hope you get to try my brews.

Aromas:
Rich Chocolate Abuelita, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Vanilla, Dulce De leche cajeta/caramel, Kahlua Liqueur, Ancho chile, pasilla chile, Molé, cinnamon, nutmeg, smokey oak, bourbon, pan dulce, piloncillo sugar cone, capirotada raisin bread pudding, marshmallow smores, butterscotch, rocky road ice cream, mocha, roasted coffee notes, cafe con leche, Mexican vanilla, coconut hints, cocada mexican coconut candy hints, dark fruit raisins, dark cherries, Milk sugar, flan, sweetened condensed milk, tres leches cake, Champurrado, earthy notes, molasses, clove spice, grilled platanitos/bananas and Churros.

Flavors:
Charred smokey oak, vanilla, dulce de leche caramel/ cajeta, toffee, rye, Rich Chocolate Abuelita, Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Molé, cinnamon, nutmeg, tres leches cake, Champurrado, earthy notes, molasses, clove spice, toasted coconut, rocky road ice cream, cookies and cream, dark fruit raisins, dark cherry, grilled platanitos/bananas, Churros, marshmallows, campfire smores, graham crackers, honey comb, Kahlua Liqueur, Ancho chile, pasilla chile spices but no heat, Milk sugar, flan, sweetened condensed milk, pan dulce, piloncillo sugar cone, capirotada raisin bread pudding, butterscotch, cocada mexican coconut candy hints, mocha, roasted coffee notes, Jericalla Mexican custard, espresso, cafe con leche and Mexican vanilla.

Aftertaste:
Lots of smokey oak, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, bourbon notes, marshmallow, dark chocolate, campfire smores, piloncillo, chocolate abuelita, pumpkin notes,spicy chile notes, earthy notes, dulce de leche and vanilla. No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV, ridiculously smooth drinkability, very creamy, velvety and smooth mouthfeel, and pitch black body just like the original.

Overall:
Supremely above and beyond. I had no idea the Xocoveza could take it to another level of enjoyment. Granted, I enjoyed the Tequila version but this is also just as good in its own league. The bourbon and charred oak brings about more smokey caramel and marshmallow flavors forward that you would find in the regular Xocoveza or even the Tequila and Wine one. Complexity on its own terms essentially. With that being said, I would highly recommend this one as well. Heck, I would recommend all 3 brews, they were one of the biggest hits for Stone Brewing.

Anime Corner:
Yoruichi Shihouin from Bleach, art by trzaraki of Deviantart.com and May from Backstreet Billiards for the PS1 were chosen in this pairing for different reasons. The original Xocoveza I used May as she represents the Mexican culture of where the recipe was inspired from especially the Mexican brewers that helped Stone with the creation. Since the upgrade using the bourbon barrel aging, I wanted to pair with one of my favorite anime characters, Yoruichi, since I wanted to show case how this was a more powerful beer than the original. I found a pic where she is what looks to be indigenous attire but also the colors of both pictures represent the colors and flavors of the beer. Her becoming a Goddess of Thunder with the purple hair represents the increase in the complexity and strength of the brew bringing the beer to a new league of its own.

2016 Mocha Wednesday by the Bruery

2016 Mocha Wednesday by the Bruery is a 19.4% ABV World Class Imperial Stout brewed with Portola Labs Coffee beans and TCHO Cacao Nibs aged in bourbon barrels.

Label:
MORNING AFTER

This exquisite version of Black Tuesday is brewed with TCHO cacao nibs and coffee beans from Portola Coffee Lab.

Mocha Wednesday is a perfect follow up to a Black Tuesday. Layers of artisan dark chocolate and bold coffee collide (especially when consumed fresh) thanks to cacao nibs from San Francisco’s TCHO and OC’s own Portola Coffee lab.

==Introduction==

Mocha Wednesday is back and this time, like last year, it is released to Reserve and Hoarders society. I think as time continues, it will slowly be released onto Preserve society and maybe one day, publicly. Like the other Black Tuesday variants I have tried before, these are some of the best beers in the world. Hence, since I have tried them and this one a couple of times, this is the last review I will be doing of this brew. I believe after a while, the reviews start to get repetitive. If I had tried them at their finest, anything less would just be quality control over the brews. Which the Bruery has had to separate facilities to alleviate the issues they had run into in the past. With that being said, I definitely recommend this one right off the bat. Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark, Belgian, German, sweet, bitter, milk, fudge and baker’s chocolates, Kahlua coffee, Kopi Luwak Coffee, mocha, java, espresso, Dulce de Leche caramel, vanilla, flan, hazelnut nectar, cashew butter, maple syrup, pecan pie, pecan pie, Bailey’s Irish cream, rocky road ice cream, fudge, chocolate chip cookies, molasses, oak, brown sugar, mint, anise, toasted coconut, dark fruits, raisins, figs, plums, raspberries, cherries and almond joy.

Flavors:
Very Mocha forward, fancy coffee, Kahlua coffee liqueur, java, espresso, Kopi Luwak, bourbon, oak, rum hints, vanilla beans, dulce de leche caramel, dark fruit cherries, currants, raspberries, raisins, figs, plums, blueberries, milk chocolate dark chocolate, baker’s chocolate, bitter and sweet cocoa, Belgian chocolate, German Chocolate, chocolate cherry cordials, toasted coconut, mint chocolate chip ice cream, Bailey’s Irish Cream, almond joy chocolates, anise, brown sugar, chocolate mocha flan, sweetened condensed milk, hazelnut nectar, cashew butter, maple syrup, pecan pie, coffee cake, double chocolate cherry cake, port wine and fudge brownies.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with fancy mocha Kahlua coffee, rich dark chocolates, dark fruits, caramel, cherry chocolate and coffee cake and bourbon notes. Slight alcohol burn going down but none in the taste. Pitch black full body, ridiculous smoothness, creamy, velvety, syrupy and chewy mouthfeel along with a moderate drinkability. Yeah imagine that, be careful not to finish the bottle in one sitting. Wine stoppers are your friend.

Overall:
Definitely a lot more reminiscent of Rue D’Floyd for some delicious godly reason. Yes, that coffee chocolate cherry ambrosia they made in 2014. For being the last time I review this brew, this is one hell of a way to go out with a Mocha Wednesday bang! Yes, there is not much else I can say about this brew that has become one of the best along with the other Black Tuesday variants in the series. Heck, I had to try and stop myself from finishing the whole bottle. The brew was damn ridiculous and I enjoyed every damn minute of it even for a 19% ABV. I highly recommend you get this one along with any of the “Weekday Series”. Mind BLOWING!

Anime Corner:
Konan of Amegakure from the Naruto has returned like in last year’s review and she is looking mighty gorgeous as the beer has allowed to give way to stronger and richer sweet mocha flavors. They got that right. The alcohol shows her unique strength. The perfect pairing idea came from the label and a need to find one of my favorite characters to fit. Her blue hair and hazelnut eyes fit perfect with the beer label colors. Her strength is not the only thing that matters, but the rich sweet aspects of her flavors characterizes the deep love she has for her friends Nagato and Yahiko (Also known as Pain). The rarity of this beer is the rarity of her discipline. For the smallest times you do get to see her fight, she is a bad ass ninja. Hence the reasons her smoothness and seduction will make you pay greatly later on if you try to consume her in one sitting. Patience is virtue!! Aside from these aspects, if you know this character or can even guess what other aspects of this pairing complement each other?

Palo Santo Marron by Dogfish Head

12495229_10103093355452840_856366829534650952_nRating: 5.25/6

Palo Santo Marron by Dogfish Head is a 12% ABV Brown ale aged on Palo Santo Wood.

Label:
An unfiltered, unfettered, unprecedented brown ale aged in handmade wooden brewing vessels. The caramel and vanilla complexity unique to this beer comes from the exotic Paraguayan Palo Santo wood from which these tanks were crafted. At 10,000 gallons each, these are the largest wooden brewing vessels built in American since before Prohibition. It’s all very exciting. We have wood. Now you do too.

Palo Santo means “holy tree,” and its wood has been used in South American wine-making communities.

==Introduction==

I got this one at Mr. K’s Liquor next to the Bruery in Placentia California. For many of the Dogfish Head beers, especially the strong ABV ones, they have been very delicious. I especially like the ones that reach into the double digits like the Fort, Worldwide Stout and their recent 20th anniversary. Definitely in your face, best beers out there. I found this one for a couple of bucks. You don’t see that from other brews especially with double digit ABVs. Even if it is not a 22oz, still good price. So with this one, being one I had not tried before, I could not pass it up and bring it to the website. So here is the Palo Santo. Not sure why they call it Holy Trees since Palo in Spanish is actually “stick”. Anyways, cheers!

Aromas:
Dark fruit cherries, raisins, plums, figs, dates, blueberries, blackberries marshmallows, campfire smores, graham crackers, capirotada raisins bread pudding, flan, Belgian candy sugars, sweetened condensed milk notes and fruit cake.

Flavors:
Dulce de leche burnt caramel on wooden container, vanilla, cinnamon, pecan pie, hazelnut nectar, capirotada raisins bread pudding, flan, Belgian candy sugars, bananas, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, oak, toffee, molasses, clove spice, dark fruit raisins, plums, figs, dates, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, blueberry cobbler, sweetened condensed milk notes, fruit cake, marshmallows, strawberries, campfire smores and graham crackers.

Aftertaste:
Finishes very rich with caramel, dark fruits, oak, toffee, vanilla candi sugar, clove spice and bananas. No alcohol in the taste, pitch black dark full body, creamy, smooth and syrupy mouthfeel along with a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
An exceptional brew! Why I haven’t bothered to pick this up is beyond me but definitely something I wish I had sooner. At 12% ABV, the rich maltiness covers all! So rich and complex, I will definitely enjoyed this. The malt forward profile is what dominates the beer so if you love malty brews, this is king. Especially for the price, I recommend people get this one. If they sell it in packs of 4, I would definitely get it. A high ABV go to beer!

Anime Corner:
Shameimaru Aya from Touhou project was used in this pairing to mainly go with some of the colors of the autumn leaves, the trees and the feathers are similar to the indigenous cultures that make up a lot of the wine using this type of wood. The colors of the label, flavors and ingredients seem to complement the artwork as well too.

2016 Chronology:6 Wee Heavy by the Bruery

2016 Chronology:6 Wee Heavy by the Bruery is a 13.7% ABV Wee Heavy/Scotch Ale aged in Bourbon Barrels.

Label:
Scotchology
This wee heavy ale aged in bourbon barrels is the first in a chronologically aged series released at six-month intervals to chart the evolution of barrel-aged character over time.

In this installment of our Chronology Series we brewed a wee heavy – known for rich, malt-forward flavors – and set it to age in bourbon barrels. Every six months, we’ll take a quarter of the barrels, blend them and bottle them. This first bottling represents the nuances imparted to the base beer after six months of barrel aging.

==Introduction==

Obtained from the Reserve and Hoarders Society, this brew is a new chapter in the list of aging beers. Like last year’s Old Ale aged in bourbon, this year they are going with a Wee Heavy aged in bourbon and will be releasing the brew every 6 months to see how complex it becomes over these times. With each release, we will try and see where it goes. Wee Heavy/Scotch ales are one of my favorite styles that do not get brewed often. For being an uncommon brew, the maltiness is definitely unique and so it is its own style for this reason. This is the second time I try a Scotch ale from the Bruery. The first time was the Sourboro which was a sour wee heavy. Now with this, I am ready to try more. Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark chocolate, smoked peat, oak, dulce de leche caramel, toffee, dark fruit prunes, grapes, brown sugar, vanilla, rocky road ice cream, vanilla, oak, anise, licorice hints, bananas, clove spice, milk chocolate and coffee hints.

Flavors:
Rich dulce de leche caramel, toffee, dark fruit prunes, grapes, plums, bourbon, scotch, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, smoked peat, oak, rye bread, molasses, dark cherries, grilled bananas and cream, clove spice, anise, licorice hints, dates, pecan pie,hazelnut nectar, fruit cake, stone fruit peaches, coffee notes, flan, scotch, rocky road ice cream, brown sugar, vanilla, maple, nutmeg, allspice and blueberry cheesecake.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with dark fruits, toffee, dates, oak, bourbon, toasted coconut, bananas, caramel and hazelnut nectar. Slight alcohol in the taste. Dark brown full body, smooth, creamy and chewy mouthfeel and a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
An exceptional brew right off the bat. I can only assume it will get much more grandiose over time. As the alcohol mellows out, some of the complexity starts to come out much more. There are definitely a lot of the Wee Heavy components to this and the fact that it is barrel aged, it makes it that much more delicious. I definitely would like to try it as it ages but for now, definitely seek this one out!

Anime Corner:
Cortana from Halo was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the colors of the label and dark fruits mainly. While Cortana herself might not have a direct connection to time, her knowledge of expertise in the future and the ability Master Chief to summon her when needed “Saves” time but also the time it took to implement all her knowledge is all the time in the world. The FUTURE!

2016 Colonel Kernel by The Bruery

2016 Colonel Kernel by The Bruery is a 14.8% ABV Cornwine aged in bourbon barrels.

Label:
BEAST OF BOURBON

Colonel Kernel is a bourbon barrel-aged barleywine-style ale with corn. Think of it as sticky caramel corn served out of a toasty bourbon barrel, but without the kernels to stick in your teeth. It’s best enjoyed while in uniform via a tulip or wine glass, unless you want an earful. Best stored and cellared around 55°F (13°C) in a dark place. Ideal serving temperature is 55°F (13°C).

==Introduction==

Released to the 2015 and 2016 Reserve and Hoarders Society members, this is a brew that was made using corn. I would definitely be a skeptic about corn and beer as corn is mainly an adjunct to commercial lagers like rice. However, this is the Bruery were talking about and if they can pull off an amazing corn based brew, then I want to see it!… and try it ofcourse. With that being said, it does bring up both the sense of concern but also a sense of intrigue. How will this one do? Let’s check it out. So here it is, Colonel Kernel. Cheers!

Aromas:
Caramel Popcorn, Toffee, Butterscotch, bananas, clove spice, dark fruit raisins, plums, figs, dark cherries, , rye bread, maple, custard, corn bread, cane sugar, bananas, almonds, pecan pie, walnuts, crème brulee and capirotada raisin bread pudding.

Flavors:
Dulce de leche Caramel, Butterscotch, toffee, bourbon, oak, vanilla, cream corn, caramelized popcorn, maize, dark fruit raisins, plums, figs, dark cherries, almonds, pecan pie, walnuts, crème brulee, maize atole hints, capirotada raisin bread pudding, macadmia nuts, milk chocolate, oatmeal, cream of wheat, grilled bananas, clove spice, port wine, coconut hints, rocky road icecream, marshmallows, smores, hazelnut hints, rye bread, maple, custard, corn bread and cane sugar.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with caramelized popcorn notes, butterscotch, bourbon, rocky road ice cream, creamy maize atole hints, maple and dark fruits. Boozy alcohol in the taste. Dark Honey colored full body, creamy, velvety, chewy and syrupy mouthfeel and a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
An exceptional brew providing a variety of complex flavors. One thing to note about this one is that it is pretty boozy. While still giving off lots of caramelized corn and sweet flavors, time will definitely do wonders for this one. Hence the lower rating. Still though, it can easily be a supreme after sometime. It proves it on its own even with the alcohol burn. I would recommend getting it for. Try one now and one to cellar to see how it fares overtime.

Anime Corner:
Sheik/Zelda from The Legend of Zelda was used in this pairing mainly for the colors of the label which also happen to be some of the colors of the ingredients and flavors like the corn, maize and the dark fruits. Mainly as corn being an elusive ingredient in craft brews mainly since it’s an adjunct, when done right, it can be an amazing ingredient to use in brews. This elusiveness is something that Sheik is. Essentially, you never knew it was actually Princess Zelda the entire time helping Link out.

Extremely limited and obtained at the local Ramirez Liquors in Boyle Heights for a limited time only. This brew was a must have when I saw it. I screamed everything childhoods were about. Waking up early in the morning to watch those episodes of Thundercats, Voltron, Ninja Turtles, Mazinger Z, Looney Toons, Sonic the Hedgehog, Ronin Warriors and many many more shows. It was an awesome time with no worries, no responsibilities. It was you and your favorite characters. Damn… While this is very reminiscent, I can only hope the beer is just as good as the nostalgia. What can I say but pure Kid’s cereal Bliss. The kind of stuff I grew up with watching those Saturday morning cartoons all those years ago. I wish I know how they got so many different fruit flavors into a simple milk stout. Well, not simple at all, I say that only due to the ABV but this is pretty crazy complex and super fruity stuff. It is not like cloying by any means but definitely fruit and complex. I think for people that remember growing up with the Saturday morning cartoons will sit back, relax and watch reruns of their favorites while sipping this. Brew Rebellion keeps nailing it with this crazy delicious flavor forward beers. I highly recommend this one. Cheers!

“Pretty much every cartoon that made growing up in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s awesome up to the present” was used in this pairing for many reasons. Highlight many of the most popular shows that were my favorite shows from the most obscure ones to the most popular ones. This beer is a staple in artistic nostalgia paying tribute not only to childhoods everywhere but also to the future inspiration of this site. I grew up watching cartoons and anime all the way from the earliest I can remember since I was 3 years old. They inspired my perspective and appreciation for different kinds of artworks and shows. Now as an adult, this is the tribute here. I took so many pics cuz I knew just about any cartoon would fit especially of the times. Thank you childhood!

High Five by Smog City

High Five by Smog City is a 7% ABV American Amber/Red Ale brewed with 5 different types of honey.

==Introduction==

Got a growler fill at Smog City during the Infinite Wishes event. I was not intrigued at first since I didn’t know what this was made up but when I did the research on spot and verifying that it is made with 5 different kinds of honey, I had to bring it to the site. Definitely very unique as I have not seen a beer that uses variants of an ingredient. It would be like making a beer using different vanilla beans, which would make for a very delicious brew ofcourse. But even so, a 5 honey variant seems even more unique as I have not heard of over 5 different types of honey. Let’s see what this one is about, cheers!

Aromas:
Biscuit bread, vanilla, caramel, rye bread, floral, citrus and piney hops, wild flower honey, banana hints, coriander spice, grape hints, trail mix hints, dark fruit raisins, raspberries, cranberries, pomegranates, blackberries and brown sugar hints.

Flavors:
Wild Flower Honey, Orange Blossom honey, Eucalyptus, Agave nectar, Mezcal hints, biscuit bread, vanilla, caramel, rye bread, floral, citrus and piney hops, dark fruit raisins, raspberries, cranberries, pomegranates, blackberries, figs, dates, grapes, trail mix, granola bars, maple syrup, leathery notes, chardonnay, mead, coriander spice, banana hints, grape jam on biscuit bread, green tea hints and honey dew melon.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with dark fruit flavors raspberries, honey, agave nectar, rye bread, caramel, toffee and brown sugar. No alcohol in the taste. Clear Dark Crimson light body, smooth, crisp, refreshing and creamy mouthfeel with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
A very good and delicious Amber. There is something very different about this brew since you can sense the honey but it is so complex. I have tried like 2 or 3 different types of honey before but never 5 and some of the honeys used actually do give way to other flavors that were not part of the beer as the ingredients. With the blend, it gives birth to these crazy fruit and flowery flavors. A must try for sure!

Anime Corner:
Original bee girls and Suzumebachi from Bleach were used in this pairing to kind of give the sense of different bees produce different kinds of honey which is true. But also, different kinds of flowers produce different honey variants too. With the brew around the whole honey bee theme, I figured it worked very well especially since the colors of the artworks also show some of the colors of the fruits and flavors that this beer has.

Pineapple Sculpin by Ballast Point

Pineapple Sculpin by Ballast Point is a 7% ABV India Pale Ale brewed with Natural Pineapple Flavor.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hopped in 5 different stages, this beer has flavors of apricot, mango and lemon. But this isn’t your regular Sculpin IPA – this version has the addition of 100% fresh pineapple pure to create a new twist on an old favorite.

==Introduction==

Obtained this one at one of my local shops. With the release of another awesome Sculpin variant, I had to definitely bring it to the website. The different ones have elevated the original gold standard to new heights. The IPA community has been changing so much that even Sculpin is not number 1 anymore. While it is a fan favorite even for me, this is just another step in innovation of the brew market as new hop breeds are being made which bring new flavors to IPAs. Even with that being said, nothing wrong with making the gold standard into higher standard. Aside from that, I really want to try this pineapple one and recommend you do the same or at least after this review.

Aromas:
Stone fruit peaches, Pineapple hints, tropical fruit mango, dragon fruit, passion fruit, papaya, honey dew melon, grapefruit, citrus, piney, herbal, floral and grassy hops, biscuit bread, vanilla and toffee.

Flavors:
Rich Pineapple notes, grapefruit, citrus, piney, herbal, floral and grassy hops, tropical fruit mango, dragon fruit, passion fruit, papaya, honey dew melon, guava notes, prickly pears, cherries, biscuit bread, Stone fruit peaches, apricots, lychee fruit, lemon starburst, tangerine gummies, cocada Mexican coconut candy, Malibu Rum hints and sweetened condensed milk.

Aftertaste:
Flavors linger of pineapple, mango, tropical fruits, stone fruits, biscuit bread, floral and piney notes.No alcohol in the taste. Clear golden body, smooth, crisp, clean and refreshing mouth feel with a easy to moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious that just became more perfect as it warmed up. Initially, I did not give it a chance too much in the colder temperatures but as it warmed up, more of the pineapple and tropical fruit sweetness melded together with balancing out the hop bitterness. The only reason it did not get a perfect in my opinion is because I have had more delicious Pineapple IPAs. This is definitely one to must have several. It is still very good and most likely will be a common. This definitely takes the original sculpin to a new level of awesome and makes it even more tropical than what it was before.

Anime Corner:
Temari Sabaku from Naruto and one of my top 4 favorite anime characters was used in this pairing as I always wanted to pair a pineapple beer with Temari. Quite simply since Temari’s hair is reminiscent of pineapples. She’s damn cute and her character complements the bitterness of an IPA as she tends to be cold at times but kind hearted the majority of the time. I also enjoy how the artworks pair well with the label and the sculpin fish which Temari wearing the googles and slanted almost looks like the fish itself. Anyways, I really like how this turned out for sure.

God Damn Pigeon Porter by Spiteful Brewing

12695037_10103068362923070_2135584891870017700_oRating: 4.85/5

God Damn Pigeon Porter by Spiteful Brewing is an 8.2% ABV American Porter.

Label:
Don’t fight it, SPITE IT! God Damn Pigeon Porter was brewed with our friends from across the pond in mind. Using traditional English Amber malt we built a robust ale. But being the unruly Americans we are, we put our own hoppy twist on it. A late addition of Simcoe enhances the roasted character with resinous aroma. One pint of this delightful porter will take your mind off the everyday nuisances of city life, from Chicago to London, Especially those f-ing pigeons!”

==Introduction==

Got this one from my friend Aaron Mendiola at BeerMetalDude.com. Spiteful brewing has been really hitting homeruns so far with me. After having their Working for the Weekend brew and the awesome label art, I was hooked. Even some of their other brews and art are very appealing and awesome! Hilarious even. Like the Selfie beer that shows a dude punching himself in the nuts for even considering taking a Selfie. Now that’s artwork and storytelling! With that being said, let’s see why so much spite for the pigeons, let’s see, cheers!

Aromas:
Roasty malts, smokey notes, dark chocolate, dark fruit currants, cherries, raisin notes, smokey notes, soy sauce hints, vanilla, caramel, toffee, earthy hops, molasses, mint, anise and coffee cake hints.

Flavors:
Citrus, piney, grapefruit hinted and earthy hops, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, bakers chocolate, mango hints, smokey notes, soy sauce hints, plum sauce, dark fruit currants, cherries, raisin notes, molasses, mint, anise, coffee cake hints, vanilla, caramel and toffee.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with dark chocolate, roasted malt notes, earthy hops and dark fruit notes. No alcohol in the taste. Dark full body, smooth, creamy and rich mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A very good porter for being so spiteful towards pigeons. As long as the porter doesn’t have pigeon poop since they spite humans back. It doesn’t of course. Being so rich, chocolate and creamy, this a definite must try. For being the second brew I have from Spiteful brewing, I definitely would love to have more if I ever get the opportunity but definitely get this is you are a Chicago local.

Anime Corner:
Original character was used in this paring as I wanted to get a character that would pair with the black and white parts of the artwork. The colors of the eyes work well with the dark fruit presence of the brew. The beer at hand just means that while she smiles back, it either means she wants you or she is secretly plotting against you. You don’t really know with this brew lol.

2015 Caribbean Chocolate Cake collaboration by Siren Craft Brew and Cigar City

12715955_10103068361011900_3112727561832377196_oRating: 6/6

2015 Caribbean Chocolate Cake collaboration by Siren Craft Brew and Cigar City is a 7.4% ABV Tropical Imperial stout with cocoa nibs, lactose and aged on Cypress Wood.

Label:
The return of an outrageous collaboration with Cigar City, this is a dense, rich and luxurious stout. Hand-roasted cacao nibs from the USA give hints of tamarind and soft lemon. The malt provides coffee and roast notes in abundance, while the experimental OCC hop variety offers orange, chocolate and coconut flavours. Ageing on Cypress Wood is the icing on the cake. Pure bottled indulgence.

==Introduction==

Got this brew from craftshack.com. At the time I was not too interested in it but they were having a sales and it was a good opportunity to get some of the other brews I wanted to buy so I included it in my purchase. Though it is a little bottle, a collaboration with Cigar City has yet to let me down. That and the ingredients being used in this brew made me want to try it even more. Ofcourse, this being such a small bottle, I will have to take all the time in the world for this. Enough of the babble, on to the beverage, Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Bakers Chocolate, caramel, vanilla, toasted coconut, Dark fruit raisins, cherries, plums, grapes, currants, blue berries, black berries, raspberries, Tropical hints of dragon fruit, passion fruit, kiwi, honey dew melon, Stone fruit peaches, roasted coffee, mocha, hazelnut molasses, anise, piloncillo sugar cone, pecan pie and brown sugar.

Flavors:
Dark fruit raisins, dark cherries, plums, grapes, currants, blue berries, black berries, raspberries, Milk chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Bakers Chocolate, Mexican Abuelita chocolate, caramel, vanilla, toasted coconut, Stone fruit peach notes, Tamarind, Tropical hints of dragon fruit, passion fruit, lychee, mango, kiwi, honey dew melon, Kahlua liqueur, roasted coffee, mocha, coffee cake, oak, crème brulee, flan, cinnamon, ginger, fruit cake, chocolate cherry cake, sweetened condensed milk, chambord raspberry liqueur, molasses, anise, piloncillo sugar cone, pecan pie and hazelnut.

Aftertaste:
Leaving with some rich tropical and chocolate soaked dark fruits, coffee, caramel and vanilla. No alcohol in the tasted. Dark as night full body, smoth, rich, creamy and velvety mouthfeel and moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A very exceptional little bottle. What can I say, the whole tropical chocolate fruits was definitely something very prominent to his brew. How this was done with the cypress wood? I have no idea. While I really wish they could have made this into a 22oz. bottle instead, I think for what it is, it is still a great buy even if it was around 8$. Sometimes it is not the price but what it is you are drinking that determines that is great. With that being said, now I want to brew something like this in the future. With the way my current homebrews have been going, Inspirations like this can make for truly godly creations.

Anime Corner:
Ignis from Jingai Makyou was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the colors of the labels with the dark colors and the flowers. It also pairs well with the coffee, chocolate and tropical fruits this beer has. I still don’t know how the cypress wood combination of lactose and cocoa nibs got so much tropical notes out of the beer but I guess only the future will tell. Ignis sitting down relaxing reminds me of just relaxing, take a step back and have some tropical stout!

Big Bend Hefeweizen by Big Bend Brewing is a 5.5% ABV Hefeweizen

Label:
Our Big Bend Hef embodies the openness and unique character of a region that’s all its own. West Texas is the secret ingredient—take a swallow and put yourself in the heart of it. The spirit of West Texas, now in a can.

==Introduction==

Got this brew from my friend Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com. First time I try a brew from Big Bend. While dark hefs and weizenbock or eisbocks are my favs of the hefs, the basic hef is something I started trying long ago and was one of my favorite styles. I still pay tribute to is since it was my first unfiltered beer experience back in the day. Especially when I started trying the clovey banana heffs, that really stuck with me. These may differ from the American Hefs but I guess we will find out how this one. Let’s take a look. Cheers!

Aromas:
Stone fruit notes, citrus, bubblegum, banana, clove spice, cane sugar, oranges notes, coriander spice and waffle cone.

Flavors:
Bananas, clove spice, cane sugar, oranges, pineapple notes, bubble gum, coriander, marshmallow hints, citrus, vanilla, caramel, stone fruit peaches, caramel, apple, wafflecone and biscuit bread.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with clovey and banana spice, stone fruit and coriander spice. No alcohol in the taste. Light golden body, Smooth, crisp, clean and refreshing mouthfeel along with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
A decent Hef providing mild and light but fulfilling flavors. Might not be as full as the Hefs of Germany but sometimes if you just want something light, this seems to fit the bill well. Nothing too overpowering and yet still mildly complex. I like it for sure. This one is worth a try. Basically get several for sure and I think many who like light beers might enjoy this one.

Anime Corner:
Katniss Everden from the Hunger Games by Ilya Kuvshinov was used in this pairing as I wanted to use a character that could pair with the colors of the beer and the arrowhead on the can. While I have never done an animated character that came from a live action movie, it feels appropriate for this piece as the colors do pair well and it is an opportunity to branch out to different animations. Remember, anime is the Japanese word for Animation. While Japanese Anime is an inspiration for the site, it isn’t the exception.

DF*Dub by Oak Highlands Brewery

12698260_10103065597470060_6356696337167119006_oRating: 3/5

DF*Dub by Oak Highlands Brewery is a 7.1% ABV German Dunkelweizen

Label:
Dunkelweizens are the brunette siblings of Bavarian Hefeweizens. Dark, complex and slightly cloudy, DFDub starts with banana and cove aromas and finishes crisp and clean.

==Introduction==

Got this little can from my friend Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com. Dunkelweizens are a style that were one of my favorites before the Quad. I still love the style so when I get a chance to try them I am definitely all over them. So far, the best ones I have tried are directly from the source in Germany. This one comes from Oak Highlands and this would be my first time trying one of their beers. I can only hope it is just as awesome as what I have had in the past. Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark fruit raisins, bananas, clove spice, caramel, fruit cake, smoked peat, coriander, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, mango hints and oranges.

Flavors:
Bananas, Chocolate notes, smoked pat, clove spice,wheat bread, coriander, dark fruit raisins, prune hints, candi sugar notes and brown sugar.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with some spice notes and dark fruit hints. No alcohol in the taste. Brown medium body, smooth, crisp and refreshing mouthfeel with moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A decent brew. While it is not the best Dunkelweizen I have tried it is still pretty decent. I think the problem for this one is that it is not full on bursting with German complexity. So maybe for someone that drinks light beers would enjoy this one. It would be like a gateway beer into craft. The flavors are there but but quickly fade. It is worth trying but I would go with a Dunkelweizen like Franziskaner or Weihenstephaner.

Anime Corner:
Inori from Guilty Crown was used in this pairing as I wanted something to pair with the color of the can but also something that could complement the fruity flavors of the dunkelweizen. While this beer is pretty light, some of the colors of the ingredients do stand out in the picture like the light darkfruit.

Mystery Romp by Crooked Letter Brewing

12716062_10103065595978050_1746178879695130741_oRating: 2.75/5

Mystery Romp by Crooked Letter Brewing is a 6.5% ABV American Porter with Coffee beans.

Label:
When the lights dim, the curtains pull back, and the Beledi starts, it is time for a Mystery Romp! This mocha colored ale, infused with chocolate and coffee, can best be described as a tasteful dance between a robust Porter and a rich stout.

==Introduction==

Obtained this brew from my friend Aaron at BeerMetalDude.com. This is the first time I try something from Crooked Letter Brewing. The ingredients seem very promising as I love me some coffee and chocolate beer, especially the description. The label has a picture of a pig so I can only assume the romp parts is the piggy. Maybe this might have some bacon notes. Let’s take a look and see what is offered in this brew.

Aromas:
Sour notes, roasted Coffee, Milk Chocolate, dark chocolate, dark fruit raisins, prunes, vanilla, caramel, molasses, and brown sugar.

Flavors:
Roasted Coffee, Milk Chocolate, dark chocolate, crème brulee notes, very sour notes, oak, vanilla, caramel, molasses, anise, wine grapes, smokey bacon, burnt marshmallow smores, lactose milk sugar, raspberry skins, dark fruit raisins, prunes, earthy hop notes and concorde grapes.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with smokey notes, sour, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, vanilla and earthy hop notes. No alcohol in the taste, Dark as night full body, smooth, creamy and watery mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A subpar beer. I am not sure what to think of this. It started off really nice with notes of coffee and delicious chocolate but then suddenly fell really flat with sour notes. It could be that the bottle was old. I thought about that at first but I confirmed with my friend Aaron that it looks like the beer actually went bad. I don’t think this would be a fair review as the beer is not fresh but I think I will come back to this one if I try a fresher bottle. For the meantime, get this one fresh as it may or may not be good.

Anime Corner:
C.C. And Kallen from Code Geass were used in this pairing as I wanted to mainly pair with the gypsy in the beer label. There is no mystery to the romp in terms of romp being synonymous with a behind. I think mainly though, romp was mainly stating about a pig and hence why I think some smokey bacon notes were present in this beer. Either way you look at it, it’s a lot of skin shown.

Working For The Weekend by Spiteful Brewing

12717805_10103065593937140_2363353676491193214_nRating: 5/5

Working For The Weekend by Spiteful Brewing is a 7.9% ABV Double India Pale Ale.

Label:
None

==Introduction==

Received this awesome brew from my friend Aaron Mendiola, webmaster at BeerMetalDude.com. The first time I saw this beer I thought to myself “Best…. Label…EVER!!” Then I find out Spiteful Brewing makes some very awesome label artwork. Hilarious stuff like the Selfie beer..LMFAO!!!! Aside from being hilarious and artistic, I have the privilege to try a beer from them and seeing how I am enjoying their artistic work, Let’s see how their beer is. Cheers!

Aromas:
Tropical fruits, dragon fruit, passion fruit, kiwi, guava, papaya, mango, citrus, piney, grapefruit, floral, herbal, grassy and piney hops, stone fruit peach notes, biscuit bread, vanilla, tangerine peels and lychee fruit.

Flavors:
Rich citrus, piney, grapefruit, floral, herbal, dank garlicky, grassy and juicy hops, tropical fruits like papaya, mango, pineapple, guava, kiwi, honey dew melon, prickly pear, dragon fruit, passion fruit, mint, stone fruit peach notes, apricot, sweetened condensed milk notes, vanilla, tangerine candy and starburst.

Aftertaste:
Finishing very hoppy with lots of tropical fruits, vanilla, stone fruit, grapefruits, citrus, and sweetened condensed milk. No alcohol in the taste, Golden light to medium body, smooth, creamy, crisp, clean and refreshing mouthfeel with an easy to moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A perfect Double IPA. So damn juicy, I could swear there is actual fruit in there. Reminding me a lot of the Pipeworks IPAs, Chicago is really really hitting it out of the park with their breweries. I was super stumped. Perfect Double IPA and an awesome artwork. You can’t ask for more from the art and tasting experience. Surely, this is hopefully one of many I will hopefully get to try in the future. Definitely recommended highly!

Anime Corner:
Sayaka-Chan by Gashi-Gashi was used in this pairing to represent the working dude on the label, office attire and all. I think that’s about it. As simple as it maybe I really like how the colors blend well with the individual colors of the label. Even the fruit flavors.

Razzy by Community Beer Company

12716358_10103065591017990_6285910860143694998_oRating: 4/5

Razzy by Community Beer Company is a 5.5% ABV Witbier brewed with raspberries

Label:
Razz begins as our World Beer Cup Gold Metal-winning Witbier, a year-round offering. After primary fermentation, we add natural raspberry puree to create a secndary fermentation.

The fresh raspberry character melds perfectly with this gently spiced Belgian-style wheat beer.

==Introduction==

Obtained this brew from my friend Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com. I am really looking forward to this one as I think fruit beers are awesome. So basically I saved the best for last? I hope it is. This is the first time I try a brew from Community Beer Company and surely a good way to start with a raspberry brew. Cheers!

Aromas:
Stone fruit peach, apricot, citrus, wheat bread, banana notes, clove spice, honey, raspberry notes, brown sugar, apples, vanilla and grapes.

Flavors:
Rich Raspberry, Coriander, citrus, wheat bread, banana notes, clove spice, honey, peppercorn notes, Belgian candi sugar, stone fruit peach, apricot, mango hints, apples, bubble gum, grapes, vanilla, raspberry cobbler, brown sugar, rock candy and phenolic notes.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with raspberries, bubble gum notes, phenolic notes, citrus and stone fruit. No alcohol in the taste, grapefruit colored full body, crisp refreshing and smooth mouthfeel and easy to drink

Overall:
A very good raspberry brew. Light overall with the raspberry being a driving factor that I think is what allowed me to give it a decent score. It is not in your face raspberry sweeteness but the slight complexity of the beer is enough to keep it interesting and very drinkable. Certainly something I would be able to drink several of. I would recommend a try!

Anime Corner:
Sakura Haruno from Naruto was used in this pairing as I wanted to do another Raspberry brew. I guess I am on a roll with using her on raspberry beers since she has the colors. In this pic, I wanted something subtle to pair as it is a light brew. Hence the bright colors and how the label looks like an exploding raspberry.

The Cause IPA by Brazos Valley brewing

12694774_10103065589730570_4388934823350502397_oRating: 2.75/5

The Cause IPA by Brazos Valley brewing is a 7% ABV India Pale Ale

Commercial Description:
Our IPA brings intense hop flavors and aromas from a unique blend of Columbus, Centennial, and Cascade hops. This 85 IBU IPA is bittered with Columbus hops for a strong resiny and pungent bite, then flavored with Centennial and Cascade hops for citrus finish with a floral aroma. After the boil we add aroma hops at flameout, and then dry hop with copious amounts of Cascade hops to push this experience over the edge.

==Introduction==

Obtained this brew from my friend Aaron Mendiola at BeerMetalDude.com. This is the first time I try something from Brazos Valley brewing. I have never had anything from them but it is always awesome to try something new from the nooks and crannies of the craft beer industry. Sometimes Gems are found and I feel it is our duty as reviewers to see how good the gems are to allow you to embark on your own craft beer treasure hunt. Kinda goes with the name, the Cause!

Aromas:
Malty caramel, citrus, piney hop hints, honey, biscuit bread and stone fruit hints.

Flavors:
Lots of Honey, caramel, hints of citrus, piney and grassy notes, toasted bread, oranges, tangerine gummies, biscuit bread, cane sugar, stone fruit peach, mild mango and honey dew melon.

Aftertaste:
Finishing dry with mild hop notes, caramel and honey. No alcohol in the taste. Honey colored light to medium body, smooth, crisp, syrupy and refreshing mouthfeel and moderate drinkability.

Overall:
An okay brew. I am not sure if the hops died out or maybe the can may have not been as fresh but I definitely noticed more malts in this one. While I love more malty beers and this is fantastic as a malty brew, ultimately, if you love hops you may want to compare reviews of this beer since this one is imbalanced with the hops. I love me some good IPAs but I think I would need to try another fresher one to change my opinion on this one. So far, unless you like malty IPAs be my guest.

Anime Corner:
Cyber Elf by Ronin Dude of Deviant Art was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the colors but also the name, the cause. Like fighting for a cause. Sometimes when someone fights for a cause, they have a reason to be heroic or epic in many cases. The girl fighting and looking bad ass is a testament to doing something for a cause.

Irish Red by Shannon Brewing

12716381_10103065584446160_1770905514707775782_oRating: 5/5

Irish Red by Shannon Brewing is a 5.8% ABV Irish Red Ale

Label:
Fire-brewed with pure spring, whole grain, whole flower hops and a Whole Lotta Love! Shannon Irish Red is everything a red should be – a deep copper hue, a nice malty start, aromatic hints of baking raisin bread, gentle hop aroma and crisp clean finish.

==Introduction==

Obtained this brew from my friend Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com. This is the second time I try a brew from Shannon brewing. The first one I had was their blonde which was very good. They have a style of brewing called Fire brewed which looks like they use actual furnaces. This is awesome as it is not the typical boil as other brews go. I am curious to see what it does to brews since the first one was very good. I can only see if this one is just as awesome. Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark fruit raisin hints, boysenberries, currants, raspberries, grapes, blueberries, Caramel, Toffee,, citrus, piney and grassy hops, brown sugar, pecan pie and maple syrup hints.

Flavors:
Caramel, Toffee, Strawberry preserves on toasted rye bread, biscuits, vanilla, dark fruit raisin hints, boysenberries, currants, raspberries, blueberries, coriander spice, citrus, piney and grassy hops, grapes, capirotada raisin bread pudding, sweetened condensed milk hints, apples, pecan pie, treacle and maple syrup.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with rich biscuity, toasted bread, caramel, vanilla, dark fruits and jammy preserves. No alcohol in the taste, crimson and copper medium body, smooth, creamy, crisp and refreshing mouthfeel with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
A damn awesome Red Ale. Just like their Blonde, I really enjoyed this one. Whatever their process is for fire brewed ales, it is definitely awesome as the 2 that I have had so far from them have been perfect brews. There is a good deal of complexity like a regular amber/red ale but more complex with the dark fruit flavors. Definitely enjoyable for me as I like the malty brews. A recommend from me.

Anime Corner:
Scáthach/Lancer from Fate Grand Order was used in this pairing to go with the colors of the label and the style as well as some of the dark fruit flavors of the beer. Lancer already has the red crimson colors and her clothing of purples and blues works with the dark fruits.

American Wit by 3 Nations

12734186_10103065582864330_7388924817579113886_nRating: 4.75/5

American Wit by 3 Nations is a 5.5% ABV Witbier.

Label:
“Get Your Facts First, Then You Can Distort Them As You Please” – Mark Twain

There’s nothing in the world like American Wit. Dry but to the point. This American Wit is a healthy blend of a traditional Belgian Brew, with certified American Brass. It’s not meant to adhere to the noise. It’s meant to be the noise. It’s a youthful take on a classic style, sure to spark some controversy. The American Wit wouldn’t have it any other way.

==Introduction==

Obtained this one from my friend Aaron Mendiola atBeerMetalDude.com. This brew’s art work is awesome depicting Mark Twain on the label, the famous author and writer. It is an honor to review a beer with him on the label. As for the contents of the can, I will have to take my time and see what 3 nations has to offer as this is the first time I try one of their beers. Many witbiers I have tried, some better than others but let’s see where this one goes, cheers!

Aromas:
Stone fruit peaches, apricot, farm house funk, hay, peppercorns, citrus, floral and herbal hops, grapefruit hints, honey, cane sugar, coriander, apples and wheat bread.

Flavors:
Peppercorns, citrus, floral and herbal hops, coriander spice, bubble gum notes, Belgian candi sugar, wheat bread, Stone fruit peaches, apricot, farm house funk, hay, apples, vanilla, bananas, clove spice, chamomile notes, cane sugar, lemon peel, tangerine candy hints, grapefruit hints and guava.

Aftertaste:
Finishing dry with hints of vanilla, cane sugar, pepper corns and herbal hops. No alcohol in the taste, clear pale yellow body, smooth, clean, crisp and refreshing mouthfeel and easy to drink.

Overall:
A very good witbier. Some of the flavors of this brew remind me a little bit more of a saison or a farmhouse ale. It is quite the irony as this has Mark Twain on the label and the fact that it reminds me of my favorite saisons from Stillwater Artisanal called Eschatological ale. The Eschatological ale has a pic of the devil on it. The reason I say it is ironic as there was this disturbing video online from the banned episode “The Mysterious Stranger” of the European Kid’s show “The Adventures Of Mark Twain”. In the claymation episode, it showed Mark Twain and some kids meeting Satan.

As weird as it maybe for the kids show, the fact that I’m correlating this to a saison especially a good saison makes this one that much greater. I definitely enjoyed this one and would recommend it if you can find it.

Anime Corner:
Musashi Super Battleship from Kancolle/Kantai Collection was used in this pairing as I was trying to find a character that would fit with the colors of the label with the glasses and pipe that Mark Twain has.

Bockslider Toadies Texas Bock by Martin House Brewing Company

Bockslider Toadies Texas Bock by Martin House Brewing Company is a 5.6% ABV Dunkler Bock.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bockslider is the official beer of Fort Worth’s own Toadies. An easy-drinking, copper-colored, lightly-hopped beer perfect for on-stage, backstage, or anywhere your rock music takes you.

==Introduction==

Obtained this brew thanks to Aaron atBeerMetalDude.com as well as other cans. This is the second time I get a chance to try something out from Martin House brewing. The first one I tried from them was the Pretzel stout which made for a very unique beer. Today we bring forth the Bockslider which is a tribute beer for band, the Toadies, an Alternative Rock band from Texas. Now that I have this brew here, let’s see what this one is about. Cheers!

Aromas:
Roasted malt notes, earthy hop notes, coffee, banana hints, clove spice, caramel, dark fruit notes, coriander, wheat bread, leather notes, tobacco notes, pecan pie, coffee cake, brown sugar, vanilla and hazelnut hints.

Flavors:
Caramel, bananas, clove spice, anise,molasses, vanilla, chocolate notes, roasted malts, earthy hop notes, dark fruit raisins, plums, cherries, raspberry notes, toffee, coriander, wheat bread, leather notes, tobacco notes, pecan pie, coffee cake, brown sugar, piloncillo sugar cone and hazelnut nectar.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with dark fruit notes, caramel, roasty notes, pecan pie notes, earthy hop hints and vanilla. No alcohol in the taste. Brown full body, creamy, smooth and refreshing mouthfeel with an easy to moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious brew. While being roasty, there are many sweet flavors ranging from dark fruits, brown sugar and nutty flavors. It feels along the lines of a stout meets a bock really. I definitely enjoyed this one and I think many would enjoy it if you can find it in Texas. This one is definitely local stuff.

Anime Corner:
Honebami Toushirou from Nitroplus was used in this pairing as I wanted to showcase the label of the skeleton animal visiting the grave of his passed loved one. In this case, it shows cases the bond people have with their loved ones is strong even after death. The way it shows it with the string around the skeleton is reminiscent of this. I am unsure if the reason for the cans artwork was a tribute to something but maybe we would have to look at the Toadies and Martin House brewing for that answer.

All American Blonde by Shannon brewing

12669528_10103065579825420_4801450169542499007_nRating: 4.75/5

All American Blonde by Shannon brewing is a 5.3% ABV American Blonde Ale.

Label:
Fire-brewed with pure spring, whole grain, whole flower hops and a Whole Lotta Love! Shannon All American Blonde is a light and very drinkable blonde ale. Brewed with all American hops, it is perfectly balanced with a subtle sweetness and light hop aroma.

==Introduction==

Obtained this one from my good friend Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com. One of many sweet cans coming from Texas. Today we bring forth a brew from Shannon brewing which use the fire brewed method of making brews. I am unsure what this method is but maybe there might be something special about the brew that may distinguish it from others. Let’s see what we can find about this one. Cheers!

Aromas:
Stone fruit peaches, banana hints bubble gum, guavas, biscuit bread, cane sugar, pears, citrus, floral and grassy hops, apple pie notes, pilsner grain, peppercorn hints, coriander spice, wheat bread, lime rinds, strawberry, lemon and starburst hints.

Flavors:
Rich biscuit bread, cane sugar, pears, citrus, floral and grassy hops, tropical passion fruit notes, mild strawberry, lemon, starburst, stone fruit peaches, banana hints bubble gum, guavas, lychees, tangerines, kumquats, apple pie notes, pilsner grain, peppercorn hints, coriander spice, wheat bread, lime rinds, and mild chardonnay.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with notes of stone fruit, tropical notes, biscuit bread and floral hops. No alcohol in the taste, Straw Pale light to medium body, very refreshing, crisp and smooth mouthfeel, with a very easy drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious blonde ale. There is something about this beer that is so damn fulfilling. Like it is not its complexity that makes it so great. It has to be that it is super balances, very drinkable and nothing offensive. Something I could drink every single day! I would recommend this to anyone who can find it. Their brewing method has something to do with the magic of the brews.

Anime Corner:
MEMEME! Was used in this pairing to represent the colors of the can’s label but also the aspect of the blonde. While she is technically not blonde, the light blues are typical of blonde in some animes. Since I really liked this brew, I figure it be a great fit.

Our GPA consists of subtle blend of bitterness accompanied by passion fruit, citrus and tropical fruit like aromas. Go ahead, enjoy this above average beer, because your intelligence can’t be refined in the classroom.

==Introduction==

Obtained this one from my friend Aaron Mendiola atBeerMetalDude.com. Along with the recent beers and cans I received, this one is from another new brewery I have not tried before. The style seems intriguing as it looks like they are using a German yeast strain and malts but also hopping it up to the pale ale status. Something I don’t think I have tried before, so I am definitely looking forward to it. Drink local, cheers!

Aromas:
Citrus, Grapefruit, floral and piney hops, tropical fruit notes of passion fruit, dragon fruit, biscuit bread, honey, caramel, stone fruit peach notes, coriander spice, cane sugar and oranges.

Flavors:
Citrus, Grapefruit, floral and piney hop, tropical fruits of guava, passion fruit, dragon fruit hints, pineapple, honeydew melon, biscuit bread, crackers, honey, caramel, coriander spice, pilsner grain, cane sugar, stone fruit peaches, lychees and mild berries.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with nice tropic fruits, stone fruit hints coriander spice, honey and citrus hops. No alcohol in the taste, Honey colored light to medium body, crisp, smooth and refreshing mouthfeel with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
A pretty good pale ale. I tried to find the aspects of a German that I would see in like a German Kolsh but the majority of the flavors are notes. Still a good and drinkable brew that would be good for the summer. Give it a shot if you find it. Cheers!

Anime Corner:
Nakamura Rio from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu was a character I found as I wanted to pair with the beer’s theme of being from school from the label and the chalk board. I did also happen to find a character that would pair with the colors of the beer and the flavors as well. This was a nice art piece.

Bullet Proof by Audacity Brew House is a 5.2% ABV American Pale Ale

Commercial Description:
Brewed with Texas craft malts and Texas-grown grapefruit, dry-hopped for a strong citrus aroma, a subtle honey-like sweetness and a crisp, easy to drink finish.

==Introduction==

Received several cans from my friend Aaron Mendiola at BeerMetalDude.com. Many of which are from Texas local craft breweries and some I honestly can say I may not have tried these without the help from him sending me these. As gratitude for these treasures, I will be reviewing these on the site starting this this brew. This is my first beer from audacity brewing. I am going in blindly and see how this one turns out. Cheers!

Aromas:
Citrus, grapefruit, piney, floral and grassy hops, cane sugar, honey, stone fruit peach notes, tropical fruits like passion fruit, papaya, kiwi, strawberry notes, waffle cone, biscuit bread and cherry notes.

Flavors:
Lots of honey, rich tropical juicy fruits of honey dew melon, passion fruit hints, kiwi, strawberry juice, Oranges, Coriander spice, citrus, grapefruit, piney, floral and grassy hops, cane sugar, Stone fruit sweet peaches, apricot notes, biscuit bread, waffle cone, flan hints, lychees, kumquats, crabapples, starburst and cherries.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with rich stone fruits, citrus, piney and grapefruit hops along with cane sugar notes. No alcohol in the taste. Golden light to medium body. Crisp, refreshing and smooth mouthfeel and easy drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious and sweet pale ale. I was really well pleased with this one as it was full of fruity goodness and delicious ingredients that went down very smooth. A refreshing beer I would definitely have on a regular basis if I had it available for sure. Give this one a try if you live Texas.

Anime Corner:
Furyou Michi from Gang Road was used in this pairing to pair mainly with the name of the beer, Bullet Proof as she is wearing a bullet proof vest. The other things that I see with this picture are that her hair is the color of the brew but also with this beer having the Texas flag represents a bit of Texas pride in terms of gun ownership.

Iron Joe collaboration with Avoca Coffee Roasters and Rahr & Sons brewery

Next we add fresh, locally brewed Avoca Noir Coffee to the mix and age it in our barrel room for three months. ==Introduction==

Obtained this brew from my friend and fellow Beer reviewer, Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com. I have tried brew from Rhar & sons before thanks to Aaron, which the one I tried was the Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer. That one was an extremely exceptional brew that was worthy of a ton of praise. So much so that I gave it a high rating. With high expectations, I will need to be more open minded with this one and see if even this one can compare to the greatness that was the winter warmer. Cheers!

Overall:
Super duper delicious Wee Heavy! This was one of the best Wee Heavy’s I have had especially due to the complexity that coffee and the whiskey barrel aging process did for it. I wish they made it into a bigger bottle but beggars can’t be choosers. All I know is that this one I really enjoyed sip after very delicious sip and would recommend that if you can find this one and try it, do it!

Anime Corner:
Original Character was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair something with the woods but mainly the colors of coffee, dark Wee Heavy and dark fruits. The simulation of falling is the synonymous to how heavy the beer is in terms the strength and the complexity of the flavors.

Plead The 5th by Dark Horse Brewing is an 11% ABV Imperial Stout

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
It’s big and full bodied with lots of roasted malts and balanced with heavy hops to put this imperial in a league of its own.
Previously known as Dark Horse Imperial Stout.

==Introduction==

I got this one as an extra when I purchased the Cigar City Error Establishing Database Connection. I have heard many great things about this beer and especially the bourbon barrel version of this. Since I don’t have the bourbon barrel version, just the fact that I get to try this one and bring it to the site is a fine honor. Even on their own, Imperial Stouts have shown to be more than perfect. Like some stouts go above and beyond even when they are not barrel aged. With that being said, I do have high expectations for this one. Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, German chocolate, bakers chocolate, coffee, toasted coconut, chocolate chip cookies, rocky road ice cream, dark fruit raisins, prunes, currants, blackberry, plum sauce, soy sauce, marshmallows, caramel, sweetened condensed milk and roasted malty notes.

Flavors:
Super Rich Dark roasted notes, coffee, Kahlua, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, German chocolate, bakers chocolate, dark fruit raisins, prunes, currants, blackberry, plum sauce, soy sauce, cherry and fudge cake, vanilla, molasses, milk sugar, chocolate smores, marshmallows, caramel, sweetened condensed milk, tobacco, smokey notes, toasted coconut, chocolate chip cookies, rocky road ice cream, almond milk, espresso notes, pecan pie, hazelnut, crème brulee and toffee.

Aftertaste:
Finishing rich with roasted malts, earthy hops dark fruit, dark cholate, molasses, licorice, vanilla and caramel. No alcohol in the taste, Dark full body, smooth, silky and creamy mouthfeel and moderate drinkability.

Overall:
An exceptional stout! It is just as I thought, this stout is a great example of how a regular stout can go beyond its base style. While it is not Dark Lord or Surly Darkness, it does bring its own roasty uniqueness that reminds me of some of the best stouts I have tried in the world. The kind that can really just stand higher in quality and taste just on its own. I hope to try the barrel aged version of this one day. I highly recommend this one.

Anime Corner:
Selvaria Bles from Valkyria Chronicles was used in this beer pairing to go with the spirally artwork of the label and the colors but also a proof of authority. While she seems to be a representation of lawful good, this fits with law in terms of the name, Plea the 5th. Aside from that, she has several colors of dark fruits but also the dark colors that represent the stout colors as well.

Project# 15 unleashes the dragons! This epitome of a beer is centered on dragons! Lots and lots of dragons. From the fruits, the milk, the bourbon and the alcohol. Dragons… Dragons everywhere! My inspiration for this brew came from the fact that I started really liking Raspberry stouts. Especially the Dragon’s Milk Reserve with Raspberries from New Holland. So when I had the idea, hmmm I should make a beer about dragons…. wait!!! That’s when it hit me, I will make one with some exotic Dragon fruit. I also wanted some passion fruit to go with it too and my friend Alex Bahamaca was able to inspire me since I remembered how good actual passion fruits were from his passion fruit tree. The Dragon fruit I was able to get from an Asian Market and thanks to my brother Martin and his wife Elly I knew what I had to do. Using the original bourbon I used from Sangri Leche, the Dragon’s Milk Bourbon which was New Holland’s Bourbon made from a barrel that used to age Dragons Milk Stout, it was only the perfect addon to my dragon’s milk themed beer. Aged one month in the fruit and a week in oak that was sitting for 2 months, now the beer is carbonated, it is time to see what my creation has spawned. Cheers!

Aromas:
Vanilla, oak, Rich Raspberries, Dragon Fruit, Passion fruit, Red prickly pear tunas, strawberries, , Milk sugar, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, fudge cake, raspberry Chambord, bourbon hints, port wine hints, toasted rye bread, pecan pie, sweetened condensed milk hints, hazelnut nectar and dulce de leche caramel hints.

Flavors:
Super Rich punch of Raspberries, Tropical Fruit Rich Dragon fruit, Passion fruits, Rich Oak, Vanilla, Caramel, toffee, butterscotch hints, Milk sugar, Milk chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Raspberries, Fudge cake, Hints of bourbon, caramel, marshmallows, port wine notes, Raspberry Chambord, oranges, citrus, dark fruit raisins, currants, plums, dark cherry cheesecake notes, wine grapes, strawberries, raspberry marmalade on rye toast, pomegranates, molasses, mint, hazelnut nectar, pecan pie, sweetened condensed milk hints, boysenberry cobbler and crème brulee.

Aftertaste:
Finishing rich in raspberries and lots of oak, dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, dark cherries, dark chocolate, and wine notes. Deep Dark Bloody Crimson Full Body, very smooth, creamy, rich and velvety mouthfeel and easy to moderate drinkability.

Overall:
An exceptional brew that packs a punch of fruitiness. While I know the oak was a bit much, the fact that I added Sooooo much fruit may have cut down a bit of the Stouty characteristics. Despite that, it is still a milk stout and I think the oakiness fades as the beer is warmers. I think people that like oaky and fruity stouts will love this one. The Bourbon did not come as strong as I had hoped it would but that is okay as the original Dragon’s Milk has only notes of it as well. I was supremely happy with this one. So much like the Sangri Leche that I figure was my best beer. This one being my second best. I really do surprise myself sometimes and I am glad friends and family love these beers. One day, I would love to make beers for the masses. Only time will tell…

Anime Corner:
Yoko Littner from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagan was used in this pairing as I was looking for a reason to make a beer with her as the theme. Her red hair paired so well with a raspberry, red tuna and dragon fruit beer that I had to add her. The only problem was, aside from her fiery hair and tank top and possibly the skull, there really wasn’t anything else I could add to the beer that would say dragon. That is until… I found the awesome artwork with Yoko in Dark Knight Dragon Armor. I was like, HOLY SHIT!!!! it was meant to be… I was meant to brew an awesome beer about dragons and using this artwork, all the hardwork would come to fruition. So it did! I still added the original Yoko and an awesome version of Yoko with the glasses and the little pet Pig-Mole Boota as a nice finishing touch. I am sure many will come to appreciate it.

La Gran Conquista De La Emperatriz Carmesí Grand Cru by Nubis Sanctum Ales is a 9% ABV Belgian Dark Strong Ale brewed with Sweet Orange Peels, Anise Seeds and Crystal Candi Sugar.

Label:
Legend tells a story about an Empress in the earlier parts of the Millennium that would unravel the mysteries of the universe by her dabbling in the arts of alchemy science and the supernatural. They called her the Crimson Empress since she enjoyed the color of blood. Not much is known about her or how she got into power in the first place. All that is known is that she had many advisers who would tend to her kingdom while she freely dabbled into the light and the darkness.

Her fascination with the unknown eventually lead to the discovery of a magic potion which allowed her to travel into other realms of existence and travel to the future subconsciously. Not much is known as to why this happened or even how this potion was made. People do know that it did cause her speak in other tongues and create her own apparel that seemed out of place for it’s time. While other powers could not overthrow her, as she was able to conquer many lands due to innovations and secrets that came as a result of the magic in the potion, she was eventually consumed by it. Many have come close to replicate the potion but none have come closest…until now!

Ingredients: Water, Malts, Hops Anise Seeds, Sweet Orange Peels, Crystal Candi Sugar & Belgian Wit Ale Yeast

Behold! The magnificence of her grace, The Carmesi Crand Cru, or in this case, Crimson Grand Cru. Project #14 came to fruition with my need to create a Grand Cru like the ones by Alesmith, North Coast brewing and even the ones from Belgium. Essentially, the special kind of Dark Belgian Strong ales that are velvety, sweet but also clear and in some cases. The need to make a nectar like that was what inspired the brew. After looking around for different things that make the consistency of the brew I finally had it figured out. Surprisingly, it did not take long to make this one since it only sat in the fermenter for 1 month before I bottled it. The other thing is that it uses a Belgian Wit strain. So in terms of the style, stuff was definitely coming together as to why the Grand Crus taste the way they do. Anyways, time for the Cru Brew, Cheers!

Aromas:
Oranges, vanilla, Dulce de leche caramel, Anise forward, stone fruit peach notes, pears, apples, dark fruit raisins, figs, cherries, citrus, oranges, strawberries, stone fruit peach notes, pears, apples, mango hints, marshmallows, graham crackers, wafflecone, piloncillo sugar cone, rye bread and licorice.

Flavors:
Belgian Candi sugar, dark fruit raisins, figs, cherries, citrus, oranges, strawberries, leathery notes, bananas, clove spice, anise, licorice, molasses, tangerine hints, rye bread, biscuit bread, rock candy, stone fruit peach notes, pears, apples, vanilla, caramel, ginger bread, fruit cake hints, wine grape hints, guava preserves/membrillo, mango hints, marshmallows, graham crackers, wafflecone, honey combs and piloncillo sugar cone.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with some earthy hop notes, anise, coriander, candi sugar, oranges, vanilla, caramel and ginger spice. Slight alcohol in the taste, Dark Sunny Orangey Crimson medium body, creamy, smooth and refreshing mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious brew I made here! Originally, even for a 9% ABV, the alcohol levels were high until I was able to let this sit for another month and damn it, it’s just about right to me. One thing I did notices on this one, it was extra spicy. Not in the way of heat but spicy in the sense that I would typically get from some different Belgian beers. It is not a bad thing but I think it is a bit much. I think next time I do this one, I will use less of the anise. Regardless, the best temp to drink it is warmer. That’s when all the rich sweet Belgian goodness started to appear. I was super pleased with the way this came out and glad I made the label for it.

Anime Corner:
Asuka Langley Shikinami Soryu from Neon Genesis Evangelion was my pairing that I used to make this brew since I wanted to pair with the Strong Red of her colors and the whole aspect of the brew being red in color but also orange under certain lightings. When I think of Grand Crus, I think of Royalty or something in relation to a beverage that is highly regarded. When I found the picture of Asuka as a Queen holding and spilling her drink, that’s when it hit me to make the label with her. In the description I mentioned that she was doing time travel and this fit the reason she is wearing the red plugsuit as it is not an apparel of the time period in the story of the description. All and all, I love how it came out and the butt pic? Well she’s royalty so bow down!

Depth-Charged Double Bastard by Stone Brewing

Depth-Charged Double Bastard by Stone Brewing is an 11% ABV American Strong Ale brewed with Coffee

Label:
So, your knowledge of caffè is such that you’ve correctly determined that “depth-charged” refers to the addition of espresso-roasted coffee beans. Well, bully for you. For all I know, you picked that up hanging out at some coffee megachain amid a microcosmic mishmash of vapid layabouts, metro hipsters, and laptop-sporting exhibitionists trying to convince the world (and themselves) that they’re click-clacking out the great American-novel-cum-screenplay for a future summer blockbuster. I could surely teach you a thing or two were I inclined…which I’m NOT. Perhaps you’re eyeing my backside because you’re really into coffee. Nothing wrong there, but if you’ve come to me expecting some beery incarnation of your security blanket “me time” soyfrappélatte or similarly dainty concoction, you’re in for some grande-sized disappointment. I do not exist to provide a comforting mode of conveyance for your jittery, caffeinated fantasies. Nothing about me is smooth, subtle or built for comfort. Those who should be holding this bottle (en route to opening and indulging in what awaits within) are really into ME. Get your cinnamonmochaccino fix elsewhere. This here’s strictly for adult men and women who don’t require the culinary crutch of added fat and sweeteners. My motto: Bold and brave or not at all.

==Introduction==

Got this one at my local shop. Luckily, I did not have to buy the whole 4 pack special as this one seem to come with in the Bastard Box which has 4 Arrogant Bastard variants. Double Bastard has been one of the best beers I have ever especially since the time I started doing beer reviews. Heck, I even had a dream I had it before I actually tried it. That’s how much I like this one. I even have one aging for several years. When I first heard that this was coming out and what it had I was like wuuutt? I wondered how it would work as the beer already is strong and citrucy but would it really meld with the coffee? Well, I guess we’re about to find out.

Aromas:
Espresso Coffee, mocha, citrus, grapefruit, piney, grassy, earthy, floral and dank hops, old oranges, dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, oak, dark fruit raisins, dates, plums, dark cherries, biscuit bread, Kahlua notes, brown sugar, pecan pie, Milk chocolate and butterscotch.

Flavors:
Rich Coffee, mocha, toffee, dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, oak, rich citrus, grapefruit, piney, grassy, earthy, floral and dank hops, old oranges, dark fruits like raisins, dates and figs, dark cherry hints, caramel, roasted barley, tropical mango, caramelized dragon fruit, sourdough bread, rye bread, tobacco, leather, butterscotch, lemon peel, lemon candy, tangerine preserves in toasted biscuit bread, English fig pudding, Khalua notes, ginger, Milk chocolate, burnt chocolate, molasses, hazel nut nectar, roasted chestnuts, pine cones, brown sugar, acorns, flan, tangerine marmalade and black tea notes.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with rich candied oranges, coffee, chocolate, grapefruit and earthy hop notes, toffee, caramel, vanilla, mocha and dark fruit goodness. No alcohol in the taste. Deep Crimson, light body, smooth, creamy, velvety and slightly syrupy mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
Taking my original love of the bastard to an even newer level. Double Basted Charged with coffee is very exceptional. Who would of thought that a coffee blend to an already dream beer could go beyond something I would of ever thought possible. Just goes to show what Stone brewing is capable of. They are damn crazy with these beers. I highly recommend this one.

Anime Corner:
Lilith Aensland and Jedah from Darkstalkers/Vampire Saviour were used in this pairing as I wanted to bring back Lilith for the Double Bastards pairings since the first time I tried the beer. Since then I have done ones with the girl version of Jedah too. Both of them representing the Double in Double bastard. Now with the male version of Jedah, I wanted to show what the wording depth meant in terms of the art pairing. She literally comes out from the depths of Jedah’s charred heart. The other pairing with Lilith is just since I wanted a new artwork to pair with this great beer.

2015 Big Hugs by Half Acre brewing is a 10% ABV Imperial Stout brewed with Dark Matter Coffee

Description:
This beer is a thug. Big and chock full of tender embrace.

A specialty brew. Grab it when you see it. 10% ABV.

==Introduction==

Another year, another installment of the great and mighty Big Hugs. Every year since I first had it I have tried to get a hold of this one. I have missed some installments in the past but each year is something different but similar to the previous beer. Big Hugs the Cat started off with hugging giant buildings but he moved on to hugging other things and having to fight other giant monsters. This time, a giant snake. Since they released the beer, Dark Matter also released a special Coffee as well which are the coffee beans that were aged in the same beer. Essentially, more ingredients for future beers. Anyway, let’s have a look at this, cheers!

Aromas:
Rich mocha, Fancy roasted coffee, espresso, Vanilla, Caramel, Milk Sugar, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, bakers chocolate, German Chocolate, brownies, peanut butter, pecan pie, rock candy, toffee, Bananas, clove spice, vinous grape notes, dark fruit raisins, plums, prunes, currants, coffee cake and pecan pie notes.

Flavors:
Rich Vanilla, Caramel, Milk Sugar, Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, bakers chocolate, German Chocolate, Mocha, Fancy roasted coffee, espresso, vinous grape notes, java, Kahlua liqueur, Dark fruit raisins, plums, prunes, currants, dark cherries, blueberries, brownies, peanut butter, pecan pie, rock candy, toffee, Bananas, clove spice, herbal notes, tobacco, leather, smokey notes, walnuts, pralines, cinnamon, earthy notes, oatmeal cookies, cookie dough ice cream, anise, port wine, vinous grape notes, chocolate fudge, cherry and coffee cake, chocolate mousse, malt chocolate and coffee milk shake.

Aftertaste:
Finishing rich with vanilla, caramel, chocolate, peanut butter, Fancy Coffee roast, spicy coffee complexity earthy notes and dark fruits. No alcohol in the taste, Dark like the abyss of nothingness dark body, Smooth and creamy mouthfeel and almost easy to drink despite the ABV.

Overall:
What can I say about this beer that I have not mentioned before. There is a reason I get this beer every year and even implemented dark matter coffee into my homebrews. Their stuff is the stuff of craft beer legend. With the recipe using the Coffee, it elaborates so many deep dark complex, fruity yet chocolatey, caramely and other sweets of the sweets goodness. As every year I try this, I highly recommend it.

Anime Corner:
Ark Angel MR or evil Mythra as well as Dragoon Mithra from Final Fantasy XI was used in this pairing as I used her in the last pairing. The original idea had to do with the whole Big Hugs. Since she is a gray cat lady with crimson eyes, it would have fit with the Mecha Hugs Label from back in the day. The fact that she is an Ark Angel, she fits even more perfect with the evil Big Hugs and the whole Big Hugs as she squeezes the orange Mythra representing the colors of the original Big Hugs cat. This beer as you stare at the dark yet determined Dragoon Mithra which represents victorious version of Big hugs in the under label, she wears that Snake like it was a dragon armor… a victory well suited.

Wild Texas Series: Donkey Lady by Texian Brewing

12669561_10103058666330120_4768385864950813004_nRating: 5/5

Wild Texas Series: Donkey Lady by Texian Brewing is a 7.1% ABV American Wild Ale aged on Apples and Spices

Label:
A Nation, A State… A Brewery

Some believe she is a ghost, while others think she is a living creature. Either way, a bridge, on the south side of San Antonio, is known to be the home of the donkey lady. Local tales state that she will chase you and jump on your car if you’re parked there too long. If you find yourself on the donkey lady bridge, and a mysterious figure appears, smile and realize that you just witnessed a piece of Wild Texas!… Then Run!

==Introduction==

Come one, come all and see the tale of the Donkey Lady! A folklore beer as elusive as the being itself. Thanks to Aaron Mendiola, a scroll crafter of alchemic potions of yesteryear forth with to his sanctum, Beermetaldude.com, for providing this dark art from the unknown. This brew was inspired by the real tale of the Donkey Lady and seeing as this is the first time I see what this beer is about, I wanted to do some research. Apparently, people say it is a ghost while some say she is a creature that is half donkey and half human. The Donkey Lady Bridge is at the end of Jet Road before running into AppleWhite, hence the reason I think they used the apples. Her story is similar to La Llorona who lost her children although she lost her children in a fire and she became horribly disfigured. Now, Texian brewing pays tribute with this brew. Let’s see what is in store for this one! Cheers!

Aromas:
Apple, cinnamon, pie crust, Danish cream, caramel, vanilla, oak, lemon peel, ginger bread, nutmeg, allspice, oatmeal notes, cane sugar, musty grapes, tart cranberry hints, Stone fruit peaches, apricots, funky notes and brown sugar.

Flavors:
Sour Apple Pie notes, candied apples, cinnamon, tart white grapes, coriander spice, Stone fruit peaches, apricots, funky notes, Danish cream, Apple Struddel, caramel, vanilla, oak, lemon peel, orange peel, lime hints, chardonnay, biscuit bread, apple cobbler, marshmallows, banana hints, phenolic notes, cookie dough ice cream, ginger bread, nutmeg, allspice, oatmeal notes, cane sugar, musty grapes, tart cranberry hints and champagne.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with hints of apple pie and crisp sour apple notes with caramel and vanilla. No alcohol in the taste. Golden medium body, crisp, refreshing and smooth mouthfeel along with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
A perfect and unique sour! So much apple pie goodness. I have not tried anything like this before. This is not a cider but a sour and the taste and spices meld really well with this style. The other thing is that the sour aspects are not offensive. It is more of a tart than a sour. Definitely one of Texas best here and a recommend if you can find it.

Anime Corner:
Raven from Teen Titans was used in this pairing to go with the Donkey Lady on the label as she looks a lot like her. That and the cloak sets the theme that works well with Raven. I used an evil looking version of Raven too since it if fits with what the Donkey Lady is, evil!

Tequila Barrel Sombrero by Clown Shoes is an 11% ABV Mexican Chocolate Imperial Stout brewed with spices, vanilla and aged in Tequila Barrels.

Label:
We asked our resident Luchador to acquire some tequila barrels, but there was a miscommunication and he robbed the town of Tequila Mexico of all their tequila bottles. Luckily, we found some tequila barrels ourselves and brewed a batch of Chocolate Sombrero (complete with vanilla, cinnamon and ancho chiles) to age in them for 10 months. The pilfered liquor was promptly returned (sure it was). Salud!”

==Introduction==

A California exclusive, I obtained this one at one of my local beer shops (Ramirez Liquors) in Boyle Heights. I had always wanted Clown Shoes to release a Tequila variant of one of their strong beers. One time, they asked Californians on their Facebook page what kind of special spirit aged beer they would like to see for California. I posted that I wanted a Tequila one. Looks like my prayers were answered. Not only is a Tequila barrel aged beer rare, it is even rarer when one is released that is aged from a Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout. So far, I have only had the opportunity to three of them and all were ridiculously good. How good will this one be? Let’s find out. Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark Chocolate, milk chocolate, Chocolate Abuelita, cinnamon,piloncillo sugar cone, capirotada raisin bread pudding, champurrado maize drink, Agave, Mezcal, Tequila, Oak Vanilla, caramel, dark fruit raisins, prunes, currants, dark cherries, blueberries, rocky road ice cream, bananas, clove spice, ginger spice, flan, sweetened condensed milk and hints of chili peppers.

Flavors:
Rich, Agave, Mezcal, Tequila, Oak Vanilla, Dark Chocolate, milk chocolate, Chocolate Abuelita, cinnamon, dark fruit raisins, prunes, currants, dark cherries, blueberry yogurt, flan, sweetened condensed milk, mild ancho and guajillo chiles, rocky road ice cream, bananas, clove spice, ginger spice, piloncillo sugar cone, capirotada raisin bread pudding, champurrado maize drink in tequila, molè, pecan pie, molasses, crème brulee, coffee, waffle cone notes, Sangria vampiro hints, lechugilla agave juice hints, coconut, marshmallow smores, charred oak notes, Kahlua liqueur notes and pan dulce.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with Agave, Tequila notes, oak, Chocolate abuelita, mild chile spices, Khalua coffee notes and marsmallows. No alcohol in the taste, dark abyss full body, very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety and mildly syrupy and a drinkability that is ridiculously easy.

Overall:
An Exceptional beer! So much complexity of Mexican desserts and spices, it is awesome! One of the characters that does come more forward is the tequila and oak but it is not in the sense of strength but more of flavor so it does not burn. Even though this is the case, this beer will evolve wonderfully for years to come. If you have a way of getting this beer, then make sure you get it, I highly recommend it.

Anime Corner:
Taokaka from Blazblue was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the original version of the Chocolate Sombrero. So since I used her in the past, I wanted to bring her back for this round using an artwork that pairs with the colors of the beer but also agave. The background where she is at gives these colors. I also included Noel Vermillion as well as she pairs with the policeman that chases the luchador.

2016 Infinite Wishes by Smog City is a 12.7% ABV Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon Barrels

Label:
Infinite Wishes is an inspired reimagination of a classic Imperial Stout. Decadently aged for 12 months in bourbon barrels, Infinite Wishes draws from the depths of nothingness and pours obsidian black with intense aromas of vanilla, cinnamon and cooked sugar finishing with the layered richness of a bourbon chocolate pie.

==Introduction==

Obtained this one on release date at Smog City in Torrance California. I unfortunately had missed last years released but was granted the ability to purchase last years as well. This time, I would not miss it not matter what. This brew reminded me so much of the Neverending Story. That cult classic from the 80’s which is basically their The Nothing (The Antagonistic Entity of the movie) aged in bourbon barrels. May not say much but The Nothing was pretty ridiculous and delicious. Hence, I could not wait to get this one regardless, take up Falcor the Magic Dragon and take Flight!!! Let’s take a look and see what is the true infinite wishes all about.
falcor-2

Aftertaste:
Finishing with flavors of Rich Dulce de leche caramel, dark chocolate, sweetened condensed milk, dark fruits, cherry cordials, oak, bourbon, pecan pie, coconut, tres leches cake and marshmallows. No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV. Dark pitch black like the nothing body. Velvety, silky, syrupy, smooth and rich creamy mouthfeel, and a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
This little bottle is pure damn magic! If magic potions do exists, then this is one of them. Granting an immense amount of richness to seemingly all senses, the wishes aspect is all true. One of the the many things you could wish for is in this bottle. Ridiculously complex, just like the super well made great beers of our times and one of the most coveted. Supremely recommended and a must have!

Anime Corner:
Rydia of Mist from Final Fantasy IV was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the childlike empress who grants Bastian the infinite wishes for destroying the nothing by giving her a name, that name was *Spoiler Alert* MoonChild! *SpoilerEnds* Essentially, Rydia in the pictures I found was a child in the beginning and later you find out that she had summoning powers. A real powerful sorceress princess. She did travel to the moon to save the world another reason why I think it paired greatly. In the last picture she is holding a flame and you see the white dragon in the background paying a tribute to the Luck Dragon and the infinite wishes crystal that the childlike empress gives Bastian as well as the Auryn.

2015 Lips of Faith Series Blackberry Barleywine by New Belgium

12661882_10103054811570090_2549919693215159642_nRating: 5/5

2015 Lips of Faith Series Blackberry Barleywine by New Belgium is a 10% ABV English style Barleywine brewed with blackberries.

Label:
Smooth as the silk ascot you should be wearing while sipping this barley wine ale brewed with fresh blackberries. A trip under your nose reveals aromas of toasted oak, caramel toffee and burgundy. Sip with purpose.

==Introduction==

I obtained this one at my local brew shop, Ramirez Liquors in Boyle Heights California. This was the last beer in the Lips of Faith Series for 2015. While I haven’t tried the Lips of faith in a while due to the rerelease of previous year ones, this one was one that I really wanted to bring forth to the site. The reason it took a long time was due to the aging process. Barleywines have to age on Secondary fermentation for the alcohol to mellow out. Once it was ready and I was able to find it, I took no time to wait and try it out to bring it to the site. Cheers!

Aromas:
Strong cherry and blackberries, dark fruit raisins, figs, plums, currants, pomegranate, banana notes, stone fruit apricot notes, brown sugar, rye bread, tart grape, grape wine notes, port wine hints, biscuit bread, toffee and hazelnut hints.

Flavors:
Rich dark fruit raisins, figs, plums, blackberries, currants, pomegranate, dark cherries, banana notes, rye bread, tart grape, grape wine notes, port wine hints, biscuit bread, toffee, dulce de leche caramel, leathery notes, orange and peach preserves, hazelnut nectar, coriander spice, pecan pie, maple syrup hints, fruit cake, stone fruit apricot notes, brown sugar, caramel cherry cake, and butterscotch.

Aftertaste:
Lots of rich dark fruit, toffee, caramel, rye and vanilla lingers. No alcohol in the taste, crimson light body, smooth, silky and creamy mouthfeel with a dangerously easy drinkability.

Overall:
Damn perfect malty Barleywine. Just the way I like them. The fruit and the already malty and dark fruit flavors expand so much that I almost finished the brew in one sitting really quick. For a 10% ABV, this is dangerous but it certainly is something that many people will like. Yes it is from New Belgium but their Lips Faith series has always been a hit or miss and this one is one major hit out the park!

Anime Corner:
Anna from Frozen was used in this pairing as I was looking for something to pair with the label of the beer which also has colors of Blackberries. Long behold, I found this one and while I hardly do Disney characters, this was a nice far artwork that seemed to just work so well with this one. Lots of the colors stand out with the flavors and ingredients of the overall brew.

He’Brew Jewbelation Reborn 19th Anniversary Ale by Shmaltz Brewing

He’Brew Jewbelation Reborn 19th Anniversary Ale by Shmaltz Brewing is a 11.9% ABV American Barleywine brewed with 10 Malts and 9 Hops.

Label:
THE 19TH ANNIVERSARY GIFT IS BRONZE. Not exactly silver or gold, but at least it’s on the medal stand! And the Bronze Age was a giant leap forward from the Stone Age – the invention of writing, metal alloys, and year-round agriculture. Evolution! 19 letters spell “He’brew The Chosen Beer”. The Hebrew lunar calendar syncs with the solar cycle every 19 years. In 1919, Congress passed the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. Yay! Congress also passed the Volstead Act which led to Prohibition. Boo! The Vietnam War lasted 19.5 years. The anti-war synth hit “19” reached #1 in the UK (‘85). August 19 is the UN’s World Humanitarian Day. Though I really hate the song, I got my 1st girlfriend in 5th grade because of “Hey 19” by Steely Dan. Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” (which I still love) was named the 19th greatest hard rock song by VH1. At age 19, Lenny Bruce got an honorable discharge from the Navy for posing as a transvestite, Barbra Streisand debuted on Broadway, and Rodney Dangerfield first changed his name to Jack Roy, performing in the Catskills, near our new brewery. Groucho Marx, who once danced the Charleston on the crushed remains of Hitler’s bunker, died the 19th of August (’77). His quip, “Humor is reason gone mad,” inspired the unofficial slogan of the Bronze Age, “He who smelt it, dealt it.” L’Chaim to the power of 19!

MALTS: 2-Row, Kiln Amber, Red X, Munich, Caramel Pils, Crystal 45, Chocolate, Vienna, Roasted Wheat Malt, Flaked Oats HOPS: Chinook, Citra, Centennial, Fuggle, Simcoe, Cascade, Calypso, Amarillo, Palisade

==Introduction==

I got this one at Total Wine and more. The Jewbelation series has always been one of my favorites ever since I tried the Jewbelation 15th anniversary. As each year progresses, there seems to be a difference in the taste of the beer as the difference in hop and malt varieties used give it a different full force of complexity every time. I think 17% ABV was the highest thresh hold they could do but by lowring the variety of malts and concentrating on the smaller number of variety of malts and hops but higher in quantity really focuses on another type of complexity that will still keep changing this beer every year I’m sure. So with that being said, let’s check it out! Cheers!

Aromas:
Dark fruit raisins, plums, prunes, figs, Dark cherries, marshmallows, banana notes, clove spice hints, brown sugar, maple syrup, coconut hints, earthy, citrusy, grapefruit, grassy and pine hops, chocolate, tangerine preserves, peach preserves, oaky notes, tobacco notes, licorice and dark chocolate

Flavors:
Earthy, citrucy, grapefruit, grassy and pine hops, Dark fruit raisins, plums, prunes, figs, Dark cherries, milk chocolate, dark bitter chocolate, molasses, anise, soy sauce, oaky notes, tobacco notes, licorice, coconut hints, marshmallows, tropical dragon fruit notes, milk sugar, leather, rye bread, honey, pecan pie, fudge chocolate, tangerine preserves, peach preserves, marshmallows, smokey campfire notes, roasted barley, leather, banana notes, clove spice hints, brown sugar, maple syrup, dark fruit chocolate cake and toffee

Aftertaste:
Finishing with rich notes of Chocolate, dark fruit blueberry, currants and cherry, caramel, vanilla, earthy, grapefruit and citrucy hops along with hints of smoke. No alcohol in the taste. Pitch black motor oil full body, Silky, smooth, creamy and syrupy mouthfeel, and a moderate to sipping drinkability.

Overall:
Every year is different and every year once again supremely exceptional. I think I look forward to this release more often than I should. Even so, they still make this readily available to many places which to me is awesome! One day I would like to try this one on tap and see how it is. Anyway, this one of those balanced American strong beers that will appease malt and hop heads alike! Cheers until next year for this one.

Anime Corner:
Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost In The Shell was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the colors of the label for this brew and they are similar to the dark fruits and the dark color of the beer. Every year I try to find some similar label colored characters. This year though, with Motoko being a deep an complex character definitely a great fit for this amazing brew!

Naránjdanos Celestiales by Nubis Sanctum Ales

Naránjdanos Celestiales by Nubis Sanctum Ales is a 6 %ABV A Belgian Dubbel brewed with Oranges, Blueberries, Soft Candi Sugar and Coriander spice.

==Introduction==
12240455_10102910050582270_1789850886825821227_o

Project# 13 was an idea for a beer which combined the flavors or Orange and Blueberries. The name of the beer comes from the Spanish combination of Oranges or Naranjas and Blueberries or Arandanos. The fusion of the two and the fact that this is a Belgian Dubbel, like the ones Monks make in Abbeys, lead to the name of the Celestial OrangeBlueberries or Naránjdanos Celestiales. Originally, I was shooting for a chocolate orange and blueberry beer, but my friend Juan suggested otherwise in which case I did not add the chocolate. Namely being, he reminded me other delicious blueberry beers I had tried in the past. So to make the Blueberries stick out well with the oranges I also added coriander spice which frankly, with the orange zest, gave this fruity pebbles type of aromas. All and all, fermentation went through well and people seemed to love this one. Now, I take my personal thoughts on this one. Let’s take a look.

Aromas:
Tart Blueberries, fruity pebbles hint, oranges, tart grapes, candi sugar, tangerine hints, brown sugar, lemon candy, stone fruit hints and dark fruits.

Flavors:
Blueberries, Candi Sugar, Coriander spice, caramel, biscuit bread rye bread, tart grapes, citrus, orange zest, lemon candy, dark fruit raisin hints, figs, plums, tart cherry notes, sugar cane, brown sugar hints, apple notes, stone fruit apricot, peaches and tangerine notes.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with some candi sugar notes, tart blueberry notes, citrus, coriander spice, tart fruit pebbles.
No alcohol in the taste, Orange Honey full body, crisp, refreshing and silky mouthfeel and easy to drink.

Overall:
A very good light Dubbel. While I think the tarty blueberry adds some complexity, ultimately it has to be drunk at close to room temp to get more complexity. In cold temps it is easy to drink with tart and the citrucy notes. While I think this was good, I don’t think orange and blueberry may have not paired too well, only slightly. I think if I make this again, I might use a different fruit to pair with the orange or I think I will add the chocolate next time. Eitherway, still a delicious little homebrew.

Anime Corner:
Konan from Naruto was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the ingredients of the oranges and blueberry flavors and colors as you can see from Konan’s hair and eyes. The fact that she is wearing a cloak is like the ones monks wear as this is a Belgian Dubbel so it definitely goes with the style. My intention with this beer is to pay tribute to Jiraiya’s original team of Nagato (Red like the body), Konan (Blueberries) and Yahiko (Oranges with the Orange Hair). All these characters were important in the Naruto Series.

Cinnamonk by The Bruery Terreux is a 12.1% ABV Imperial Sour Brown brewed with Blueberries and Cinnamon aged in Bourbon Barrels.

Description:
MALTY – FRUITY – TART
Cinnamon and monks are both known for being found in remote locations. Their stories separately stretch back several millennia, and both can pinpoint their popularity to modern day Egypt. But here’s something else they have in common: together, they make a formidable team in creating wildly traditional bière™. Cinnamonk is a dark, imperial, Belgian-style sour brown ale – the type of beer a monk might brew if he took up permanent residence in Southern California. Cinnamon was used to amplify the subtle spicing derived from the Belgian yeast while blueberries catapult the dark fruit flavors. After spending time in bourbon barrels, the result emerges with notes of candied dates and tree nuts, toffee-drizzled dark winter fruits, maduro earthiness, autumnal spicing, tart flavors and oak-aged character.

==Introduction==

Obtained this one from the Bruery under their Reserve Society membership last year. So it took me a while to get to try it until recently. I actually did try it at the Bruery but was not too impressed. It was nice and tart with some nice bourbon notes but wasn’t major. Now I bring the bottle as I wanted to review it even though it was decent on tap. They say for these types of Belgian beers, bottle conditioning does wonders. However, how much of the bottle conditioning change the brew? Well let us check it out. Cheers!

Aromas:
Dulce de leche, banana notes, cinnamon, ginger spice, ginger bread, oak, clove spice, dark fruits, raisins, blueberries, plums, figs, raspberry notes, Blueberry Funnel cake, stone fruit apricot, peach preserves, sweetened condensed milk hints, mild chocolate notes, citrus, lemon notes and toffee.

Flavors:
Rich dark fruits, raisins, blueberries, plums, figs, raspberry notes, Cinnamon, ginger spice, ginger bread, oak, bourbon, toasted rye bread, vanilla, dulce de leche, banana notes, clove spice, blueberry cobbler, fruit cake, toffee, molasses, wine grapes, port wine, blueberry wine, mild chocolate notes, citrus, lemon notes, stone fruit apricot, peach preserves, sweetened condensed milk hints, blueberry flan, piloncillo sugar cone, Blueberry Funnel cake, Blueberry Churros, Danish cream, pecan pie, hazelnut nectar, rock candy and Belgian Date sugars.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with very nice dark fruit notes, caramel, vanilla, oak, tart grape and wine notes, bourbon and banana hints. No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV. Crimson, purple and brown full body, smooth, creamy, tangy and effervescent mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability.

Overall:
Waayyy better than when I first had it. I think this one being bottle conditioned like Belgians do probably makes the difference. This one is damn enjoyable ranging from the sweet, tart and sour complexities. In my opinion, one of the best sours I have had in the longest time. Specifically since the combination of fruits and bourbon barrel aging does wonders. I would highly recommend you find this one. Cheers!

Anime Corner:
Shampoo and Ranma-Chan Saotome from Ranma ½ were used in this pairing as I wanted to pair with the Cinnamon and the Blueberries, the Chinese monks in relation to monks in general and the colors, flavors and ingredients of the beer. The strength of the blueberries in this one complements very well the cinnamon hence the picture where it shows Shampoo whispering into Ranma. The strength of both martial artists coincides with the beers strength and complexity with bourbon aging.

X’s And Ho’s by El Borracho Homebrewing is a 4.5% Cream Ale

==Introduction==

Cream Ale with Corn Maize added. A cream corn session brew contributed by my friend William Carranza in his search to create a clean and delicious yet very drinkable brew for anyone that enjoys light beer. The name of the brew comes from the song by Elle King, Ex’s & Oh’s, but mainly from the need to make a “cheap” inexpensive but really drinkable beer. Think of this as a cheap date or one night stand of a brew, regardless of how you see it. Anyway, I am thankful to have another awesome to provide to the site thanks to my friend Will. Cheers!

Aromas:

Piney, citrucy, grapefruit and mild grassy hops, biscuit bread, pilsner malt, honey, caramel apple, buttery caramel popcorn, maize and butterscotch hints.

Flavors:

Caramel notes, pilsner malt, honey, toffee, biscuit bread, piney, citrucy, grapefruit and mild grassy hops, cereal grains, maize notes, butterscotch hints, hazelnut hints, caramel apple, buttery and creamy caramel popcorn.

Aftertaste:

Finishing dry with some hints of caramel and biscuit bread with some nice mild hops and pilsnery notes. No alcohol in the taste, light honey colored body, crisp, clean and refreshing mouthfeel and very easy to drink.

Overall:

A pretty good beer. The strongest trait of this beer is that it is so damn drinkable and light that many will love it and the best part, there is a good amount of complexity to keep stuff interesting. A session beer that truly is enjoyable and better than the light lagers out there. My hats off to my friend William for pulling this one off. Since I don’t have a hat… I’ll do the classic bow from Wayne’s World… NOT WORTHY… NOT WOTHY!!

Anime Corner:

Ayeka Masaki Jurai, Ryoko Hakubi, Sasami Jurai and Tenchi Hakubi from Tenchi Muyou! And Shikishima Mirei, Sagara Momoka and Tokonome Mamori were all used in this pairing to represent the name of the beer from Ex’s that catch their used to be significant other with another man/woman or even getting caught cheating. The overall theme I wanted to go with is those beers that are easy but also the way my friend described his reason for the name.

Forth Meal collaboration by The Bruery and Maine Beer Company

12696943_10103052904536800_8405186328354607881_oRating: 4.5/5

Forth Meal collaboration by The Bruery and Maine Beer Company is a 6.9% ABV Belgian Pale Ale

Label:
DO WHAT’S RIGHT…AT 1AM.
The Bruery and Maine Beer Company got together and cooked up something special for you: fourthmeal. It isn’t brunch; it isn’t “linner.” It’s a hoppy Belgian-style ale that brings aspects of both breweries to the table: fruity, Belgian yeast esters, a crisp, bready backbone, citrus and piney hop characteristics, and a dry, hop-forward finish. There’s no one shouting “come n’ git it” when it’s time to dine – just mouth-watering, dry-hopped aromatics, signaling that it’s time for fourthmeal.

==Introduction==

This one was sold and released by the Bruery to the public. While it will have a limited run, this is another collaboration. This time, they paired with Maine Beer Company and created a fused beer with specialties from both breweries in one. Typically with beers like these, Pale Ales or Belgian Pale Ales, I try to find some new things from them. I like to see if it will be something unique or something I have had before and in some cases, something that might not be pleasant. Regardless, many of the Bruery beers are still awesome so I am sure this one will not fall short of the expectations.

Aromas:
Honey, Floral, piney, herbal, citrus and grassy hops, bananas, clove spice, phenolic notes, , biscuit bread, vanilla, caramel hints, peppercorns, phenolic hints, tropical fruit of pineapple, passion fruit hints, green grapes, stone fruit apricot, cane sugar, tangerine hints and waffle cone notes.

Flavors:
Citrus, herbal, floral, piney, garlicky and grassy hops, Peppercorns, mild Belgian candi sugar, lemons, hibiscus flowers, biscuit bread, stone fruit apricot, cane sugar, tangerine hints, waffle cone, coriander spice, mild toffee notes, vanilla, tropical fruit of pineapple, passion fruit hints, green grapes, phenolic notes and hints of banana.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with hoppy notes, biscuit bread, peppercorns, honey and mild stone fruit. No alcohol in the taste, light to medium straw gold body, crisp, smooth and refreshing mouthfeel. While it was very good, I feel like it may not be too different from some of the awesome servings that the Bruery has done before. I think if you are willing to search to try it simply since it is a collaboration of the Bruery, it is worth a try.

Overall:
A very good Belgian golden beer. The hops are definitely the predominant part of this beer while the sweetness is mildly complex but balances out with the hops very well.

Anime Corner:
Fubuki from One Punch Man and Ruby Rose from RWBY were used in this pairing to go with eating in general. The fact that they call this a meal was what prompted me to find something with eating or mainly having the munchies. What else will people eat late at night? How bout cookies? So when I found this really cute artwork, I was compelled to use it. It fits well with the label and the colors but also represents the breweries as collaboration and eating food.
