2017 Beer Camp Across the World Raspberry Sundae Ale collaboration with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and The Bruery

Rating: 6/6

2017 Beer Camp Across the World Raspberry Sundae Ale collaboration with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and The Bruery is an 8%ABV Golden Ale brewed with raspberries, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans and lactose.

Description:
Together we’re brewing a riff on the flavors of the classic raspberry ice cream sundae. This beer features raspberry, cocoa and vanilla, in addition to lactose (an unfermentable sugar) that adds a richness and a sweetness, helping to blend and meld the flavors of this ultra-complex beer together. It’s been a true pleasure to work with artists at The Bruery using ingredients and techniques outside of our normal wheelhouse.

Like the Hoarders Cuvee 2016 but light. Major raspberry cream, banana notes and white chocolate. Why is this only made once?!?! Make More!! Needless to say, there needs to be more of this for sure. Great awesome Red Velvet cream beer with Banana and chocolate making it a lot like a banana split.

Project # 16 pays tribute and the return of an old favorite from last year. I brewed this recipe last year as a Dunkelweizen and this year I brought it back making some slight adjustments to the recipe and using the Weihenstephan Weizen Yeast strain as well as different malt and hops. This is the results. In an attempt to make this beer, as it was dubbed a winner among many of my family and friends who typically drink light beer, I had to bring it back. In this project, now coming from several batches in, I hope it is still as great as what I remember. It is still dark heff like before but I think falls more towards the regular heff style. Let’s see what I find, cheers!

Aromas:
Bananas, dark cherry notes, stone fruits, honey, citrus, fruity pebbles hints, coriander spice, clove spice, brown sugar, vanilla and caramel.

Flavors:
Dark fruit raisins, dark cherries, figs, dates, Bananas, banana cream pie, clove spice, tart raspberry hints, coriander spice, clove spice, candi sugar, vanilla, honey, orange peels, citrus, toffee, caramel, stone fruit peach, apricots, earthy hop notes, crème brulee, dark cherry preserves on rye toast and flan.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with a minor tart yet citrusy hop finish with the notes of dark fruit raisins, dark cherries, bananas, clove spice, peach hints, earthy hops and honey. No alcohol in the taste, honey colored hazy full body, crisp, refreshing, smooth and an easy drinkability.

Overall:
A very good hefeweizen and definitely better than the one I made last yeast. I think by slightly adjusting the recipe, it did pay off as there seems to be more of a balance between the sweet, bitter and tartyness. Right off the bat, the brew is sweet and tart and balanced. As it warms up, that’s where it gets much better with in regards to the banana split like flavors. I think the flavors of the cherry really blended well with the banana clove spices of the yeast making a beer that I could definitely call a flash ship for sure.

Anime Corner:
Ruby Rose from RWBY was used in this pairing to mainly to represent the Black Cherries of the beer. She was used similarly in chapter one but since the beer became so delicious, by making a return, it would entice the drinker into wanting even more since the recipe would be better this time around. You see, the name of And Through the Darkness of Cherries Bind Them, goes so well with the second picture where she is about to decapitate the wolf as the wolf is so bound by her, “Heff” is inevitable. The name Heff By Black Cherries is a pun at Death By Black Cherries as since Ruby carries around a scythe, I thought it was perfect as she is the “Black Cherry Death that causes the Heff to be Heffed.” So for those that drink this beer, they are immediately enticed and cannot escape Heff!! Rose petals represent the cherries swirling as the beer is surrounded in cherry flavor. Lots of great things going with this beer!

Bananas Foster by Buffalo Bayou is an 8.6% ABV Weizenbock.

In a food coma induced by crawfish or steak, few things in life are as delicious and decadent as Bananas Foster slathered over a scoop of vanilla. You know that feeling when you’re so stupid full you laugh when dessert comes then stuff your face anyway? Invented in N’awlins, perfected in Houston. They put it on a plate, we put it in your glass. Drink up monkey, it’s time to go bananas.

==Introduction==

Now this, seems like a delicious Magic Potion! I received this from my friend and fellow beer reviewer, Aaron Mendiola of www.beermetaldude.com. This was intriguing especially since the last beer I tried from Buffalo Bayou, the Red Velvet, really did taste like Red Velvet. It was a supremely delicious beer and now with this one that is being presented to the site, I hope it turns out to be just as awesome as that one. So without further ado, let’s take a look. Cheers!

Aromas:
Rich Bananas, clove spice, vanilla, hazelnut, dark fruit raisins, cherries, capirotada raisin bread pudding, plums, piloncillo sugar cone, grilled banana notes, plantains, bubble gum, walnuts, Chunky Munkey ice cream, citrus, butterscotch, rum notes, milk and dark chocolate, flan, tres leches cake, banana nut bread, stone fruit peach notes and pecan pie.

Ridiculously rich Bananas, matured bananas, clove spice, grilled bananas, plantains, banana cream pie, dark fruit raisins, cherries, capirotada raisin bread pudding, plums, piloncillo sugar cone, cinnamon, banana liqueur, bubble gum, rye bread, banana nut bread, Nutella, dulce de leche caramel, rocky road ice cream, walnuts, pecan pie, Chunky Munkey ice cream, Stone fruit peaches, apricots, rye bread, leather, coriander, citrus, butterscotch, vanilla, brown sugar, rum hints, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, bananas in chocolate, toffee, tres leches and Goat Milk caramel aged in wine.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with an earthy bananas, caramel, dark fruit, stone fruit, vanilla, rum hints, butterscotch, ice cream, clove spice and bubblegum. No alcohol in the taste, brown murky full body, smooth, creamy and chewy mouthfeel along with a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
Talk about the ultimate banana beer experience. Holy shit, I am surprised I didn’t pass out after the first sip. This beer is the real deal!! Lots of rich banana caramel goodness with no end to the deliciousness. This beer actually inspired me to create a beer recipe of my own. It was that damn delicious and really if you love sweet malty beers, this would be super awesome. I wish we could see the beer around California but it truly is unique how certain beers will come out from different unique places of the world.

Anime Corner:
Yui Takamura from Muv Luv Total Eclipse was paired with this beer for the colors of banana, caramel and dark fruits that this beer composes of. Her sexy appeal is just as complimentary as the flavors of this beer. A true dessert of a beer with a truly eye candy and beauty of this artwork.

Project #3 was brewed right after brewing my Belgian Quadruple which will not be ready for a couple more weeks. Technically, this is the second homebrew of mines that I review. The idea came from the need to brew something sweet while I waited for the Quad to be ready. My friend Oscar told me about how he liked cherry heffs and I remember seeing a recipe for it. As a twist from that original recipe, I decided to use Organic Black Cherry syrup instead of typical Cherry Juice. The name of the beer came from the need to think of something that would be cool and fit with Heffweizens and Black Cherries. Heff By Black Cherries is a pun at Death By Black Cherries as I actually fit the name based on the artwork I chose for it which I will elaborate further as I go along. For now, let’s see how Project#3 turned out. Cheers!

Aromas:
Coriander, clove spice, oranges, vanilla, caramel, hints of black cherry, peppercorn hints, fruity pebbles hints, peach hints and honey.

Flavors:
Banana, clove spice, Black cherry notes, coriander spice, dark fruit raisin hints, vanilla, caramel, honey hints, orange peel, citrus, peach hints, toffee, banana split hints, rock candy and Danish cream.

Aftertaste:
Leaves with a bit of a minor tart aftertaste from the black cherries. The orange, bananas, clove spice, honey and a bit of peach lingers along with the earthy hop bitterness. No alcohol in the taste, dark caramel gold body, crisp and refreshing mouth feel and easy to drink.

Overall:
A very good heffeweizen. I was more impressed the more I tried it. I think it started off pretty tart but as I went along and the beer got warmer, the flavors started to get more balanced where the German heffeweizen side started to take over and cut some of the tartness. As a result, with a clear palate, some of that banana melded really well with the cherries giving hints of like a banana split but super subtle. I would like to brew this one again for sure.

Anime Corner:
Ruby Rose from RWBY was used in this pairing to mainly to represent the Black Cherries of the beer. The name Heff By Black Cherries is a pun at Death By Black Cherries as since Ruby carries around a scythe, I thought it was perfect as she is the “ Black Cherry Death that causes the Heff to be Heffed”. The pool below her represents the German yeast as well as the Banana and Clove spices that it brings and infuses with the Black Cherries. You can also say it is the banana split flavors that are brought at ya as Ruby swings her scythe to take out your palate with a slight bit of that cherry tartness. Rose petals represent the cherries swirling as the beer is surrounded in cherry flavor. Lots of great things going with this beer!
