I was given this special gift by my friend Brian and his wife who were able to get this beer for me from Belgium about a year ago. I have tried many Belgian beers over the years and would someday love to go. This one, however, I have never heard of. Also, a 10% ABV at that and a lager. So I decided to save it for a special occasion. It is almost reached is best before date of 1/3/2017 so I decided I would give this a shot for one of my final new year beers. Here’s to you Brian, I appreciate the humble gift and thanks for supporting my work, cheers!

Aromas:
Malty sweet, cane sugar, biscuit bread, honey, waffle cone, blonde candi sugar, marshmallows, stone fruits and citrus notes.

Flavors:
Rich malty notes, biscuit bread, pilsner grain, cane sugar, rich honey, banana hints, phenolic hints, piloncillo sugar cone, stone fruit peaches, apricots, plums, waffle cone, citrus, tangerine gummies, brown sugar, agave hints, Cadbury caramel cream eggs, Danish cream, sweetened condensed milk, crème brulee hints, flan and marshmallows.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with bitter flavors and slightly malty sugar notes, pilsner grain and earthy hop notes. Slight alcohol in the taste. Clear Golden light body, crisp, smooth, clean, velvety and refreshing mouthfeel along with a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
A very delicious beer. Reminding me of the Leffe Blond, if it was imperialized. This is definitely a strong version of a lager and is essentially, in my opinion, what some lagers should be. At least in terms of being more complex. It does remind me a lot of the awesome sweet strong beers like Belzebuth and Samichlaus. I really loved this one except for the finish which is dry and bitter. Not bad it is just that for a 10% ABV beer I would want this to linger. I wish they would sell this here in the states at higher volumes. I would drink this over basic lagers. Definitely worth searching for.

Anime Corner:
Mercy from Overwatch was chosen in this beer pairing as I wanted to convey the fact that even though this is a lager, it is also a blond. The golden color, the name of the beer and even angelic as it is from Belgium. These are items that I figured would fit great with this beer. Angels are strong creatures as well so that definitely represents the ABV of the beer as well.

What? Second Anniversary? Wow that’s amazing! It shows how fast time can fly when you’re doing something you love with the people that you love! Our family is thankful for all the support we’ve received in our first two years, and we’re proud to share a unique beer to commemorate this occacion. We started out with an invitation to “Join Our Family” and we’re happy that so many of you have! Thanks and cheers from the Dufresne family.

==Introduction==

Holy shit, after reading the ABV and the amount of beers bottled for this I couldn’t believe it. How amazing that my friend Will Carranza was able to get his hands on this special brew. Nevertheless, gift me this special Christmas present. I am still in awe. Even so, 13.9% for a sour? That is like, Bruery status there. Regardless, this is the second time I am able to bring a 4 sons brew to the site. I am still looking to bring “The Coco” one day to the site so I can advise how awesome that beer was. However, this unique beer I really have to thank my homebrew brother Will for. For as many a sessions we had tasting beers, I could not have had the opportunity to share great brew and homebrew knowledge with a great friend. Cheers brother and Cheers to Four Sons! I hope to bring more of your brews to the site in the future.

Aromas:
Rich Guayabate Membrillo/ Guava Quince cheese, Tangerines Gummies, bananas, flowers, hibiscus, peppercorns, tropical fruit passion fruit, dragon fruit, kiwi, mango, strawberries, raspberries, lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruit, stone fruit peaches, apricots, apples, biscuit bread, vanilla, caramel and wild flower honey.

Flavors:
Hibiscus, lavender, wild flower honey, rich guavas, Guayabate Membrillo/ Guava Quince Cheese/ Guava preserves, lemon, lime, grapefruit, tangerines, oranges, kumquats, lychees, tropical fruit passion fruit, dragon fruit, honey dew melon, pineapple, mango, kiwi, strawberries, pomegranates, raspberries, grapes, dark fruit currants, stone fruit peaches, apricots, apples, biscuit bread, vanilla, caramel, peppercorns, Danish cream, herbal tea, tangy dark cherry skins, blueberries and blackberries.

Aftertaste:
Finishes semi dry with rich guava, passion fruit, floral hibiscus, dark fruits, stone fruit, gummies and tropical fruit. No alcohol in the taste despite the 14% ABV. Huge points for that. Crimson light haze body, smooth, crisp, effervescent, refreshing and creamy mouthfeel along with an easy to moderate drinkability.

Overall:
Liquid Guava preserves. Ridiculously tangy and sweet awesomeness. Super fruits loaded into this beer and the craziest part was I had to stop myself from drinking this entire beer in one sitting. It drinks way too easy, it’s unique and complex profile makes it closer to the Guava marmalade/preserves which I have not seen how the correlation of hibiscus and passion fruit at this ABV can do. It really is unique and a special brew. I am not sure what the likely hood of getting another one of these as only 1,222 bottles of this stuff was released. I highly damn recommend you can find this one or at least hope they can release it once again. Amazing!!

Anime Corner:
Original character by Bai Yemeng was used in this pairing as I needed a character that would make a great fit to the label, the ingredients of the beer, beer color, flavors and overall celebration of bad assery. This could only was in the form of a hibiscus blood red head with a sword and a yellow passion fruit stare that can kill with a high ABV. Sexy smooth but you will never know what hit!

Commercial Description:
If you’re looking for a beer that tastes like grandma’s cooking, look elsewhere. But if you’re looking for a beer that is jam-packed with nostalgia, you’ve come to the right place. Ruebarb is an oak-aged sour blonde ale with red raspberries and rhubarb. Bright berry kernels break and give way to a tart, jammy sweet flavor. Mildly bitter herbal and floral notes accompany the raspberry-rhubarb combo as it alternates between sweet and sour. Beer and dessert have never tasted better together.

==Introduction==

Released to the Reserve Society and Hoarders Society by the Bruery. When I first saw this brew and its ingredients, I could only think of the Rhubarb Pie beer I had from them called Windowsill. It has been some time since I tried that beer but the fact that is made with the same ingredients, I could not get away from the fact that I think this is Windowsill’s successor. There is not much to tell from the description or from the Bruery from what I can tell, but I will go with what I know. Let’s take a look at this brew. Cheers!

Aromas:
Danish cream, Stone fruit apricots, peaches, dark fruit raspberries, cherries, boysenberries, raisin hints, blackberries, fruit cake, grape wine, oak, vanilla, waffle cone, brown sugar, cranberries, funky hay hints, floral hibiscus, lavender, herbal Rhubarb, guava and brown sugar.

Flavors:
Rich tart raspberries dark fruit cherries, boysenberries, raisin hints, grape wine, oak, vanilla, waffle cone, brown sugar, cranberries, strawberry preserves on toasted bread, caramel, citrus, lemon peel, honey, butterscotch, pecan pie hints, funky hay hints, floral hibiscus, lavender, herbal Rhubarb, guava flavors, Danish cream, Stone fruit apricots, peaches, blackberries and fruit cake notes.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with lingering hints of tart raspberry, oak, rhubarb, vanilla, strawberries and stone fruit. No alcohol in the taste, crimson light body, effervescent, crisp, refreshing and tangy mouthfeel with a moderate drinkability

Overall:
Delicious in many ways. Sweet and sour. Liquid pie flavors with sour notes. I really think this is essentially Windowsill. There is a lot of stuff that reminded me of the original release of the beer. The rich Raspberry and Rhubarb blends well with so much of the other complex flavors in somewhat of a tarty balance. With that being said, I think if you love sweet and sour beers, this one is awesome!

Anime Corner:
Sakura Haruno from Naruto was used in this pairing as I have used her in the pairing to Windowsill. Seeing as the ingredients were so similar and me believing this is the predecessor to windowsill, I figured it was a good way to go about it as she does pair well with the colors of the label, ingredients and complex flavors. Sexy and sweet like this brew! Cheers!

Rice & Beans by The Bruery is a 7.1% ABV Belgian Blonde ale brewed with Rice, Cinnamon, Vanilla beans and Portola Coffee beans.

==Introduction==
Essentially, this is Or Xata (Horchata) aged Coffee Beans. The thought really didn’t cross my mind how well this would work. In fact this seems unheard of to take an already awesome drink and add coffee, although the idea is very intriguing. I first had this one at the Bruery and lucky for me, since I loved the original Or Xata, I really loved this one too and they had this on growler fill. So I went ahead and took some home and brought it to the site. Now we take a look at this one to see how good it is in comparison to the regular Or Xata. From what I found, it was damn amazing and really hope it is released in bottles in the future.

Aromas:
Cinnamon, Coffee, milk chocolate, Danish cream, rice pudding, espresso, whipped cream frosting, Kahlua coffee liqueur, dulce de leche caramel, brown sugar, Mexican Custard/Jericalla, Mochi ball ice cream cane sugar, steamed milk, cookie dough ice cream, crème brulee, piloncillo sugar cone, cane sugar, agave nectar, mint hints, toffee, and churros.

Flavors:
Fancy Java coffee, coffee cake, mocha, milk chocolate, cinnamon, Danish cream, rice pudding, waffle cone, liquid churros, whipped cream frosting, Kahlua coffee liqueur, dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, pan dulce, leche nestle(sweetened condensed milk), coconut candy, clove spice, Danish cookies, cookie dough ice cream, crème brulee, piloncillo sugar cone, cane sugar, agave nectar, mint hints, toffee, mango notes, milk sugar, nutmeg, fruit cake, brown sugar, Mexican Custard/Jericalla, Mochi ball ice cream cane sugar and steamed milk.

Aftertaste:
Coffee Cake, Java, mocha, milk chocolate, vanilla rice pudding, caramel, banana notes, coffee churros, champurrado maize and flan. No alcohol in the taste, honey colored light body, silky, smooth, creamy and refreshing mouth feel and is easy to drink.

Overall:
Damn exquisite dessert. This beer proves that you can combine ingredients that have not been combined before to make something new in a new experience of flavor or even improving on each that was not done before. Horchata and coffee never looked so good together but this proves that its possible and very delicious. Now the Bruery just has to release this in bottles and it will be a win win!

Anime Corner:
Korra from the Legend of Korra was used in this pairing since I wanted to pair something with the colors of Horchata and the coffee beans. While Korra is a blend of the elements like this beer is a Coffee and Horchata fusion, her fashion and similar to the indigenous which reminded me of where the drink of Horchata is popular and where the majority of the world’s coffee comes from, essentially Latin countries like Mexico and Columbia. Now I don’t know which variety of Portola Coffee was used in this beer since they range from different parts of the world but it is symbolic of the name as Rice and Beans but is something of indigenous origin. Heck I grew up on Rice and beans! Horchata as well. So I think as a subtle tribute, this pairing worked well.

Tropical and Citrus Fruits dominate the palate with hints of herbal hops and a dry finish ages well. Cellating over time results in enhanced earthiness and ripe fruit.

==Introduction==

The second bottle from their initial release to the public, and one of my favorites from Phantom Carriage is here. Once they have the capacity, we will see more lead the way for the public to enjoy. This initial release was one that I wanted to bring to the site to get an idea of what Phantom Carriage is all about, especially, if you visit them in Carson, California. Phantom’s theme of the brewery is like Halloween all year long and even the names of their beers are in reference to Swedish silent scary movies or celebrities. Muis or mouse in dutch is on of the flagship beers at Phantom Carriage. My first experience with this beer was the Oud Muis which was this one but aged in oak barrels. It was my favorite when they first opened late 2014 / early 2015. The original I did not mind but this one from the bottle is my attempt to see how this on is in comparison to the Oud Muis and when I had it the first time. Let’s take a look…

Aromas:
Rich Stone fruit peaches, apricots, Rich Brettanomyces, phenolic notes, banana, clove spice, grapes, funky farm house hay, peppercorns, coriander spice, honey, tropical fruits, oaky notes, floral hop notes, lemon candy, hibiscus, grapes, tropical fruit pineapple, passion fruit and citrus oranges.

Flavors:
Rich Brettanomyces, phenolic notes, banana, clove spice, funky farmhouse hay, oranges, lemon peel, stone fruit peaches apricots, mango hints, tropical fruit pineapple, passion fruit, honey dew melon, waffle cone, honey, peppercorns, floral hop notes, lemon candy, oak, raw as the sun mature oranges, hibiscus, grapes, chardonnay notes, raspberries, coriander spice and honeycombs.

Aftertaste:
Finishes mildly dry with bretty notes, stone fruit, tropical fruit, farmhoue hay and peppercorns. No alcohol in the taste, pale to straw, light to medium body, crisp, smooth, rich and refreshing mouth feel with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
To me, this is a great example of what the delicious bretty beers are. Reminding me of White Oak from the Bruery but mainly White Sap or even the Eschatological “As Follows” from Stillwater Artisanal. Phantom Carriage is off to an amazing start bringing delicious to the public soon. While their focus is farmhouse and wild ales, many lovers of these styles will love them. Especially those that love the occult. I highly recommend you give this one a shot. Now, if they can get me a bottle made of their Sour Belgian Quadruple, sign me up!

Anime Corner:
Eileen the Crow from Blood Borne and Toujou Nozomi from Love Live! were chosen on this beer to represent the Crow Masked Plague Doctor of the label. Easy enough but still difficult to find some characters that would fit the bill. Plague Doctors like Eileen are the ones trying to help with curing the plague which are given by what? The Muis or Mice but mainly, the Rats in the medieval times. Funky farms where the rats keep warm. Stay warm with this beer!

This beer is one of it’s kind. Some people claim we’ve found a way to liquefy cookies. They can believe what they want. We say we’ve discovered how to make a beer that gets you reminiscing about days at grandma’s house, while still enjoying a fantastic brew. Specialty ales come, and specialty ales go; here’s one we think will remain as timeless as the cookie we all love.

==Introduction==

Obtained this one at www.craftshack.com. I could not find this in the places I looked locally so after being persuaded as to how tempting this beer looked, I decided to get it and bring it to the site. Even the description was very impressive that I really wanted to see if they really did manage to get the cookies in the beer’s flavors. There are many brewers who do you use actual cookies, doughnuts and even Chocolate Cereal as a steeping grain into their brews. For this one, it is a mystery but not today. Today we will see what this one is all about! Cheers!

Aromas:
Rich cookie notes, piloncillo sugar cone, cinnamon, Ginger bread, bananas, milk sugar, caramel, vanilla, allspice, maple syrup, dark fruit notes, pumpkin hints, crème brulee, cookie dough ice cream, carrot cake, anise, brown sugar and clove spice.

Flavors:
Cinnamon, Ginger snaps, ginger cookies, oatmeal cookies, dark fruit raisins, milk sugar, caramel, allspice, vanilla, pumpkin pie notes, bananas, anise, clove spice, coriander, citrus, butterscotch, biscuit bread, cinnamon roll, maple hints, sugar frosting hints, cane sugar, cookie dough ice cream, carrot cake and crème brulee.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with lots of malty, sugary, cinnamon and spicy cookie goodness along with some buttery notes. No alcohol in the taste, Amber clear to hazy body, smooth, creamy, and buttery mouthfeel along with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
Cookies, Cookies everywhere! God knows what they did and how they did it. They really somehow got the rich flavors of cookies into the beer. Not sure what was in the specialty grains but a perfect example of cookies galore. I am glad I was able to save some for my friend but I feel like I would get this one again for sure. Heck, for this being my first Aftershock beer, I wonder what else they got to offer. I highly recommend this one.

Anime Corner:
Snow Elf by RoninDude of Deviant art and an original cookie eating demon girl were used in this pairing as I felt colors of the label really complemented the color of the art works but also the fact that they are either eating cookies or drinking hot chocolate next to the cookies and the cookie beer was the best pairing. Perfect beer for this winter for sure.

This ale is our spin on horchata, a sweet & creamy drink originating in Latin America. This time with a bit more fiesta.

Horchata is one of our favorite drinks, refreshing alongside a spicy dish or just for sipping on a lazy afternoon. Our take on the traditional agua fresca incorporates rice and lactose along with spices for that sweet, creamy character that we’ve come to love. The imperial variation is just that much more rico. Imperial Or Xata is best enjoyed fresh. The ideal serving temperature is 45° Fahrenheit (7° Celsius). Best served in a tulip or wine glass.

==Introduction==

Well this was truly unexpected. Reserve society surprised many with a very limited quantity of a small batch of a stronger version of their Or Xata beer. I truly did not see this coming but definitely had to bring it forth to the website. Or Xata is currently out to the public in great quantities and also on growler fill as well at the brewery. So it is much easier to get this beer than it was in the past. Now with this special edition dangling, it’s going to cause a stir for Or Xata lovers. If you love the original, then let’s go over this one and see if it is truly worth the trouble.

Churros and Banana Dulce de leche caramel supreme, vanilla, rice pudding, Horchata, lavender flowers, flan, cinnamon, plantains, Danish cookies, capirotada raisin bread pudding, cinnabun frosting, stone fruit peaches, apricot, cherry pie, English cream, piloncillo sugar cone, cane sugar, agave nectar, mint notes, whipped cream, milk sugar, hazelnut, chocolate truffles, Jericalla Mexican Custard, toffee, mango, pine apple, passion fruit, dragon fruit, green tea ice cream, macaroons and pecan pie.

Flavors:

Aftertaste:
A continuous barrage of candy sugar, vanilla, rice pudding, churros, honey, pecan pie, cinnamon, flan, stone fruits and dulce de leche caramel keeps lingering for a while. Slight alcohol in the taste but mainly sugar covered well by Belgian yeast goodness, crisp, refreshing, creamy, velvety, smooth and silky mouthfeel, easy to moderate drinkability drink, and a clear golden honey color of a light to medium body.

Overall:
If there was such a thing as taking the original Or Xata and you took it to the next level, a la super saiyan, shot it to volume 11, divided by zero, crossed over to the 4th dimension and then put the cherry on top, it still wouldn’t come close to explaining what they did to amp this beer to the next level. This beer is so crazy you can cuz slices like a pie. A churro pie perhaps. Either way, you have to find a way to get this one if you love the original. It really is, epic miles above.

Anime Corner:
Ryoko Hakubi from Ai Tencho Muyo! Was used in this pairing leading back to the original Or Xata with its green, gold and red label as well as its ties to the new 2015 version. Ryoko has a new design I wanted to show case for the new Tenchi series and I figured this was the perfect opportunity. Ryoko is hell of strong. I think may stronger than Fuu from Naruto which I used in the last Or Xata pairing. Therefore I wanted her to be the representative for this round. Her colors are very similar to Fuu’s. Also, I did use Ryoko for an Agave beer I did in the past so the agave like flavors are reminiscent of that. Either way, I really liked how her power compliment the stronger version of this beer.

Me So Honey. This Ale brewed with honey is an easy drinking anytime beer. Brewed with local wildflower honey, Me So Honey is smooth on the palate showing its wheat character up front with hints of flower and fruit on a clean, refreshing finish.

==Introduction==

Just in time for spring, although this is a year-round beer, I wanted to bring this forth this time around as I have not reviewed the beer here on the site in the past. The first time I tried this beer was when I was on my way to San Diego and stopped by Belching Beaver brewing. They had awesome beers like my favorite, the peanut butter milk stout, the horchata milk stout and their new one, coconut milk stout which I hope will one day be released to the public in bottles or even growlers. When I first tried it, I was amazed. They really got the rich honey flavors to pop and so when I saw it at the store, I said, screw it, I am bringing it to the site. So let’s take a close look at the bee knees here. Cheers!

Aromas:

Flavors:
Lots of rich honey flavors, vanilla, biscuit bread, floral notes, coriander spices, caramel notes, creamy of wheat, orange peel, pie crust, flan hints, hazelnut nectar hints, graham crackers, grassy and floral hops, stone fruit peach and apricot hints and very mild tropical notes.

Aftertaste:
Rich Honey lingers along with graham cracker notes, floral notes, vanilla, caramel hints and stone fruit hints. No alcohol in the taste, crisp, refreshing and smooth mouthfeel, very drinkable and light to hazy gold body.

Overall:
A very good ale with rich honey notes. Needless to say, it is not the best honey beer as I give that to the Belgian beer Bieken which I had long ago. However, it is the best specific honey flavored ale that is the most drinkable and was the riches specifically with honey. For that, I think it is very awesome and definitely would recommend the seek. It is not overwhelming and is very pleasing to many palates.

Anime Corner:
Q-Bee from Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior was used in this pairing to go with the name of the beer and flavors that come with being a sexy honey bee! She is very sexy and the way she looks at the viewer with the honey is very seductive and suggests that she really wants that honey and more! What a perfect and honey sweet pairing we have here.

This ale is our spin on horchata, a sweet & creamy drink originating in Latin America, now quite popular in Southern California.

Horchata is one of our favorite drinks, refreshing alongside a spicy dish or just for sipping on a lazy afternoon. Our take on the traditional agua fresca incorporates rice and lactose along with spices for that sweet, creamy character that we’ve come to love. Or Xata is best enjoyed fresh. The ideal serving temperature is 45° Fahrenheit (7° Celsius). Best served in a tulip or wine glass.

==Introduction==

It’s finally back! The one beer that I enjoyed so much I had to drive far away just to try and get a sample of back in 2013. This beer was so damn good that it became limited right away with only an exclusive few to try it. Now the Bruery has brought it back and hopefully it is here to stay as a seasonal for many to try. I remember how close Horchata or liquid churros this tasted and now I bring forth the 2015 version. Hopefully it has not changed and is still as good as I remember. Cheers!

Aromas:
Rice pudding, cinnamon, vanilla, dulce de leche caramel, liquid churros, bananas, coconut candy hints, Danish cookies, cookie dough, butterscotch, toffee, biscuit bread, stone fruits like peaches and apricot hints, cane sugar, agave hints, mint hints, milk sugar, coriander and citrus.

Flavors:
Rich cinnamon, Rice pudding, flan, banana hints, liquid churros, brown sugar, dulce de leche caramel, pan dulce, leche nestle(sweetened condensed milk), coconut candy, clove spice, Danish cookies, cookie dough ice cream, Churro Ice cream,butterscotch, stone fruits like apricot hints, peach hints, cherry hints, English cream, piloncillo sugar cone, cane sugar, agave nectar, mint hints, whipped cream, milk sugar, Mexican Custard/Jericalla, Mochi ball ice cream, nutmeg, coriander spice, citrus hints, toffee and mangoes.

Aftertaste:
Vanilla, rice pudding, caramel, banana hints, rich churros, cinnamon and flan. No alcohol in the taste, refreshing, creamy and silky mouthfeel, easy to drink, and a gold haze of a light to medium body.

Overall:
What can I say that I have not been said before about this beer. This taste exactly like it should. It may not be the most complex beer, well, it kinda is but it hits exactly on the flavor profiles from what they were going for. An Horchata dessert beer. This is too damn delicious to pass up. I highly recommend you try this one since it is one of the closest to an Horchata beer than most likely any non porter/stout Horchata beer.

Anime Corner:
Fuu from Naruto has returned from the last time I tried Or Xata. I never really explained why I used her in the last pairing but the last label had a green, red and gold colors which worked perfectly with the label. This time around, since we have a more artistic and Aztec pattern in the label, I find that it works with her still. You see, for Fuu, her eyes and the 7 tailed beast she holds inside her has similar colors and the wings had complex patterns like the design in the font of the name.

First tried this in Restaurant “Cinco” near LAX when the Bruery first poured for the public. Back then I had this with some tacos de azada, to my surprise, it was a perfect pairing. The Bruery would eventually release this too the public. So now many can try this exotic creation which to me was mind blowing. 

Aromas are of rich cinnamon, vanilla, bread, brown sugar, rice pudding with dulce de leche caramel and spices. 

Flavors are pretty dead on like liquid churros and horchata. Lots of vanilla, dulce de leche caramel, brown sugar, rice pudding, pan dulce, leche nestle (sweetened condensed milk), clove spice and banana notes.

The aftertaste also leaves sweet but not too sweet, more cinnamon really. Perfect. The alcohol is hidden well and will hit you later on as you sip more. 

Just like I remembered it a month and a half ago. Simply amazing dessert beer here. It really is perfect. All the flavors are exactly what are set out to be. Definitely spot on. When pairing with taquitos or any Mexican cuisine, awesome!!!

*Exceed my expectations several times, it is not too overwhelming with alcohol , it is overwhelming with awesome horchata and liquid churro flavors.

Ommegang Gnomegang Collaboration

Ommegang Gnomegang Collaboration is a 9.5% ABV Belgian Strong Blonde Ale

This delectable blonde ale is a co-creation of two famed farmstead breweries: Ommegang in New York and Brasserie d’Achouffe (Chouffe) in Belgium’s Ardennes Mountains. The Chouffe gnomes brought us their yeast and we used it in primary fermentation, then bottle-conditioned with our yeast creating a fruity, aromatic and full bodied ale.

For a very long time, I always wanted to try this beer since I became a fan of Ommegang. Also, I have known Chouffe beers to be awesome. Like the one time I reviews the IPA Triple. It was exquisite. This ale was brewed years ago but was finally re-released. So before I lost my opportunity to try it, I had to get a bottle to review

Aromas are of fruity esters, peppercorns, apples, honey, spices, sourdough and biscuit bread, floral hops, coriander spice, vanilla and citrus

The flavors are of sweet honey, biscuit bread, butter scotch, pears, apples, slight peach notes, peppercorns, floral hops, spices, sourdough, phenolic notes, bananas, citrus, lemon peel, vanilla, grapes, plums, coriander, candi sugars, oatmeal, flowers and wheat

The aftertaste leaves with a nice biscuit with honey and tangerine jelly. I was quite impressed by this one. Almost easy drinking but still warm feeling that this beer brought. While the alcohol is not too present in the taste, it gets you after. 

They pulled a great beer that is close to a Belgian Pale and Saison. A golden ale bringing a lot of great complexities and sweetness to the table. Definitely one that should be picked up.

Beard Beer by Rogue Brewing company

Beard Beer by Rogue Brewing company is a Belgian Blonde/Golden Ale with an ABV of ~5.6%. Not sure if this is the final name of the beer or if it was a prototype release. Originally released in April 1st, 2013 whom many believed was a joke. Joking aside, the plans were already in motion for this beer’s development since 2012 which was going to be called “Chatoe Rogue New Crustacean Barleywine”. While this may still be true, the beard yeast will most likely be used in that project.

Beard Beer is brewed with a yeast created from Brewmaster John Maier’s Beard. No Need to freak out, Brewers have used wild yeasts in beer making for centuries. John has had the same Old Growth Beard since 1983 and for over 15,000 brews, so it is no great surprise that a natural yeast ideal for brewing was discovered in his beard.

This is probably another one of those crazy open minded experiments for me. The last weird beet I tried was the Rocky Mountain Oyster stout which surprisingly was very awesome. Now there is really no beard hair in this beard but the yeast from John Maier’s beard was used to make this. Yeast is technically found almost anywhere and many of them have been known to be able to ferment sugars. So there is definitely nothing weird about this beer and science, or is there? Anyways, here’s to science! 

Upon opening this beer I got some very nice fragrant notes. Biscuit bread, citrus, guava, peppercorns, pineapple, banana, lychee fruit, pears and apples. The flavors are very good actually. Flavors are of biscuit bread, honey, slight caramel, peppercorns, apples, citrus, pineapple, bananas, slight mango, slight grassy bitterness, guava notes, spicy cloves, coriander and minor tart lemon peel. The aftertaste remains mainly bready and fruity with some nice spice and some bitterness. This is beer is basically a light Tripel or a saison. The beer is very drinkable, fruity, crisp and refreshing. This is the perfect beer for the coming summer and is perfect for the spring time. Don’t be afraid to try it, it really is is good.
