COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
To create Wooden Rooster, we took Velvet Rooster, our Belgian-style Tripel, and aged it in rye whiskey barrels, giving it an oaky vanilla finish.

==Introduction==

Saved what might be possibly, the best for last. This can be the last in the series of cans from Tall Grass brewing that my friend Aaron Mendiola had sent me. Please check out his reviews at BeerMetalDude.com and definitely check out Tall Grass brews if you can get them. This is a barrel aged Tripel version of their original, the Velvet Rooster. I have not tried the original but barrel aged brews seem to be more awesome than the original on the majority of the times. Let’s just see how awesome though, cheers!

Aromas:
Waffle cone, bananas, clove spice, wine grape notes, floral notes, Belgian Candi sugar, rock candy, dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, oak, peppercorns, citrus, whiskey, oranges, Chardonnay, grapes, cantaloupe, strawberries, lavender, bubblegum notes, honey and butterscotch.

Flavors:
Raw sun matured oranges, whiskey, vanilla, oak, peppercorns, citrus, lemon, Bananas, clove spice, wine grape notes, floral notes, farmhouse hay, stone fruit old mango, peaches, apricots, plums, waffle cone, cane sugar, honey, butterscotch, buttercup pecans, almond milk, sweetened condensed milk, flan, Belgian Candi sugar, rock candy, dulce de leche caramel, rice pudding, brown sugar, Chardonnay, grapes, cantaloupe, strawberries, lavender, bubblegum notes, clove spice, coriander, maple and funky notes.

Aftertaste:
Finishes oak, whiskey and vanilla with lots of melding Belgian candi sugar sweetness, vanilla and biscuit. No alcohol in the taste, Hazy Golden full body, smooth, creamy, crisp, and refreshing mouthfeel along with a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
This is damn exceptional. The best I have had from Tall Grass brewing by far. This amazing brew has great levels of amazing complexity and definitely stands to other Belgian Barrel aged brews I have had before. It also reminds me of the Bruery’s White Oak aged in bourbon or the Barrel aged Cali Belgique. Definitely something that is not often brewed but this one is a must get for sure. Highly recommended.

Anime Corner:
Ultima from Final Fantasy Tactics and a Rooster cosplaying as Akuma from Capcom’s series, Street Fighter, were chosen to represent the wooden rooster. Not just for the colors which pair well with the label of the feathers and the fact that one is a rooster and one is a fallen angel. Regardless, the bad assery and that fact that this brew is ridiculously awesome is really what does it.

2015 F.U.N Series No. 012 Trigavé by Karbach brewing is a 10% ABV Belgian Tripel aged in pre-red wine aged Tequila Barrels.

Label:
What exactly is Trigavé? This elixir is unlike anything else you might have tried before. So unique that that real words simply cannot describe. Trigavé is what happens when the trinity of wine, ale and spirits collide.

This Belgian-style Tripel was aged for 6 months in Extra Añejo barrels which, prior to the spirit, held red wine from Napa Valley. Spicy phenolics from Belgian yeast meld together with a distinct Americna oak profile. Golden in color with aromatics of fruit, tequila and a touch of honey, this ale is a luxurious as it is complex. Enjoy in a tulip or snifter style glass at 45-50°F.”

A special tequila barrel aged brew straight out of Texas. Thanks to my friend Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com for sending me this one. The reason I get to bring you guys great beers from Texas breweries such as Karbach is because of him. I don’t think I have seen any of their stuff outside of Texas and every time I try their stuff, thanks to Aaron, it is always awesome. They really know how to make great beers. Especially their barrel aged ones. This one today is one that is aged using wine and tequila in different phases using a Belgian Tripel as its base. Using a combination of wine, spirits and ale usually brings out a very special summon of an alcohol beverage like none other. Let’s see how this one is. Cheers!

Aromas:
Citrus blossom honey, agave nectar, tequila, oak, chardonay, cherries, wine grapes, bananas, clove spice, tropical fruit guava, pineapple, papaya, lychee fruit, dragon fruit, passion fruit, cane sugar, stone fruit peach, apricot, mango, floral notes of lavender, hibiscus, chamomile, bubblegum, sweetened condensed milk, flan, biscuit bread, rich wafflecone, Belgian waffles, vanilla and caramel.

Flavors:

Aftertaste:

No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV strength, Golden light body, smooth, silky, creamy, velvety and refreshing mouthfeel with a moderate to sipping drinkability.

Overall:
I’m a sucker for Tequila barrel aged beers and this one went into another level with the barrels being previously aged in wine. You really want be careful not to drink the whole bottle on one chug. This one is so damn worthy though. So much honey, agave, sangria like notes, stone fruits, tequila, grapes and much much more. I feel despite its strength in terms of ABV and not its taste, I could drink this all day. Although I would be one very hammered person. Regardless to say, this one is a very huge recommendation from me if you can get it.

Anime Corner:
Celes Chere from Final Fantasy 6 (FF3 in the U.S.) was used in this pairing to get close to the colors of the label but also the colors of the Agave plant and the origin of Tequila. I have not used Celes in a beer for a while so the timing was damn right and I felt that this would be the right choice. Celes was a very important character that helped saved the world after Kefka dropped an entire continent back down onto earth almost killing the population. Celes was there to rise up to the challenge, searched for her friends and together they all defeated evil. It was a great story and this beer just being that awesome complements her in so many ways.

Komorebi by Freetail brewing is an 11.2% ABV Belgian Tripel brewed with Pears with 1/3 aged in Mezcal Barrels and 2/3 aged in Wine Oak Barrels.

Label:
Komorebi is the sunlight filtering through the leaves of a tree-a refreshing curtain of light penetrating through the shade. Komorebi, the beer, is a Belgian-style Tripel fermented with pears,1/3 aged in freshly emptied Mezcal barrels and 2/3 aged in wine barrels. This is the first beer to emerge from our wood-program at our new brewery – the first light penetrating the shade.

==Introduction==

This cool Freetail brew was sent to me by my friend and fellow beer reviewer, Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com. Check out his awesome reviews!

What really intrigued me about this one is that it was aged with Mezcal. While I have been fortunate enough to try Tequila Barrel aged beers, I have not tried Mezcal barrel aged beers so having this on the site is pretty unique and quite the treat. While Freetail is mainly in Texas, it is always a pleasure to be able to get these beers from my friend to try something different and have a take at Texas best. Cheers!

Aromas:
Stone fruit peaches, apricots, apples, mango, pears, Mezcal, tequila hints, agave, banana notes, phenolic hints, clove spice, bubble gum, oak, white wine grapes, cherries, blueberries, honeycomb, chardonnay, caramel, vanilla, biscuit bread, rye brown sugar, white raisins and flan.

Flavors:
Rich pears, Mezcal, tequila hints, agave nectar, oak, white wine grapes, stone fruit peaches, apricots, apples, mango hints, peppercorn, cherries, blueberries, honeycomb, chardonnay, caramel, vanilla, rye bread, biscuit bread, rum hints, brown sugar, white raisins, flan hints, piloncillo hints, marshmallow, banana notes, phenolic hints, clove spice, bubble gum, strawberry notes, candi sugar, lechugilla agave juice and cane sugar.

Aftertaste:
Finishing with a sweet with remaining sweet pears, white wine grapes, pear, stone fruits, Belgian Candi sugar, Mezcal and agave nectar. No alcohol in the taste. Hazy gold and honey body, smooth, crisp and refreshing mouthfeel with a easy to moderate drinkability.

Overall:
A damn exceptional piece of crafted potion goodness. There is a lot of complex flavors ranging from the Belgian phenolics, Stone fruit to the wine and delicious caramels which is the stuff I really like from many beers. This one is a high recommend for those who can find it.

Anime Corner:
Original character was used in this pairing as I wanted to get the colors of the label and agave to work together. The pairing seems very well as I like how it blends together, almost camouflaged. Definitely for me, the best pairing for the art work.

Rainbow Triplin’ by Stone brewing is an 8.2% ABV Belgian Tripel brewed with Strawberries, Oranges, Lemons, Limes & Grapes.

==Introduction==

Obtained this on as a Crowler at Stone Company Store in Pasadena for their 3rd Anniversary party. Unfortunately, I did not know much about this beer as I went there to get the Reposado Tequila Cali-Belgique. However, first taste and I was completely mind fucked and taste fucked as well (is that even a saying?). Essentially, the name was not kidding. Something about the flavors of this beer make you trip flavor wise since there is so much going on and all pointing to Skittles and tasting the rainbow. The fruity flavors are super forward like Skittles candies. So, I was able to bring this one for the review but just trying this beer makes me wonder how to get a home brew to be like this? Time will tell, for now, let me tell you about this beer now that I was able to get a Crowler of this.

Aromas:
Super rich fruits, Starburst candy, Skittles, Floral Fabuloso Lavender, dark cherries, strawberries, tart cranberries, pomegranate, pink lemonade, lemon drop candies, peaches, limes, grapes, peppercorns, vanilla, gummy bears, oranges and all sorts of tropical fruit.

Flavors:
Lots of Skittles flavors, Mango, tangerine, lemons, pink lemonade, lemon drop candies, peaches, limes, grapes, grapefruit, pineapple, dark cherries, strawberries, tart cranberries, pomegranate, blue berries, oranges, honey dew melon, papaya, kiwi, passion fruit, dragon fruit, biscuit bread, herbal and floral hops, hibiscus, lavender, sour apples, white raisins, peppercorns, Belgian candy sugar, ginger spice, lychee, gummy bears, gummy works and mint.

Aftertaste:
Finish somewhat dry with lots of citrus and berry flavors forward including Tart cherries, lemon, lime, grapes, Oranges and grapefruit. No alcohol in the taste, light to medium pink and gold body, crisp, clean, smooth and refreshing mouthfeel with a super easy drinkaility.

Overall:
There is a reason why this beer is a real trip as you get punched in the face with a lot of tropical fruits. A perfect tropical, and more importantly, skittles Tripel. Essentially trying to figure out all the fruit flavors in this beer is a real trip as well. Wonder how they were able to get so much fruit flavor from this beer. It is pretty crazy. If you ever get to see this on tap, you definitely want to do yourself a flavor and taste that damn rainbow!

Anime Corner:
Vocaloid Hatsune Miku was used in this pairing as I wanted to find a picture that related rainbows with a “trippy” piece of art. As she rides the rainbow, it is like saying, she rides the rainbow across your taste buds is like music to the taste budal ear. Super fresh, super fruity, super trippy!!

Honey Bee Waggling Hop Bats by Nubis Sanctum Ales is an 11% ABV Belgian Trippel India Pale Ale (IPA) brewed with Arizona Wild Flower Honey. Brewed at the Avila Ales Household.

Project #7 was my take on the famous hoppy Belgian Tripel IPA, La Chouffe Houblon Dobblen IPA tripple but my take was using a variety of other ingredients such as Columbus and Amarillo hops and using Arizona Wild Flower Honey. Yes, the ABV does have a story to tell as my original gravity was supposed to keep things near the 9ish% ABV but instead went to the 11% ABV range. Literally a Triple IPA that is also a Belgian Tripple. What a Trip? Especially considering the name. Waggling and Dancing, don’t fall and “trip”now! Cheers!

This brew was born on National Homebrew Day when I brewed with my friend Richard Stan Avila of Avila Ales, one of my great friends and fellow homebrewer. A great brew in a somewhat of a collaboration as great beers are made with great friends.

Aromas:
Phenolic notes, Belgian candy sugar, Citrus, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, grassy, floral, piney hop notes, bubble gum hints, honey dew melon, Stone fruit apricots, peaches, strawberries, raspberry hints, kiwi hints, marzipan bready notes, rich honey, bananas, brown sugar and clove spices.

Flavors:
Rich bananas, clove spices, Citrus, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, grassy, piney hop notes, honey, dulce de leche caramel, phenolic notes, vanilla, Belgian Candy sugar, dark fruit plums, grapes, peppercorn, tangerine candy, Stone fruit apricots, peaches, strawberries, raspberry hints, kiwi hints, marzipan bready notes, dragon fruit hints, passion fruit, rye bread, plantains, pineapple hints, lemon hints, bubble gum, flan and sweetened condensed milk hints.

Aftertaste:
Lots of sweet caramel, tropical fruit hints, Belgian candy sugar, bananas
Slight booziness in the taste which is covered by honey and malt as it warms up, Golden Honey Amber, light to medium body, smooth crisp, syrup and creamy mouthfeel and a moderate to sipping drinkability.

Overall:
I’m well damn impressed. The fact is, I did not get the carbonation right (Still learning 😦 ) But… the beer itself was well damn amazing. The beer has lots of great flavors reminding me of the La Chouffee Dobblen IPA Tripel but taking it a step further into like a Honey and Barleywinesque territory. The fact that I used Amarillo hops most likely makes the difference in the enhanced excotic fruitiness but either way, this beer is ridiculously delicious and is something I would love to make again.

Anime Corner:
Morrigan Aensland and Q-Bee from Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior were used in this pairing because I wanted to show how the fusion of the honey and hops combine by doing a dance mainly done by bees called waggling. Do bats do the “waggle” too? Maybe, maybe not but both bees and bats are in your face enemies in some 2-D platform games that become annoying. The fact that I found this pic thought was a major tribute to some of my favorite characters to the Darkstalker series but also one of the greatest compliments to the Belgian IPA as Morrigan represents the dark fruits and hoppy goodness while combining with the floral rich honey and sweetened condensed milk and citrus provided by Q-Bee all fusing in a beer that is probably way better than the original Dobblen Trippel IPA from La Chouffe. Although I can only hope.

Points Unknown IPA collaboration by Stone, Ecliptic and Wicked Weed brewing companies is a 9.5% ABV Double India Pale Ale blended with a Belgian Tripel that was aged in barrels that had wine and then had tequila in them for 4 months.

Label:
In creating our latest collaboration beer, It wasn’t easy deciding how best to pool the resources of brewers from three spatially distant points within the brewing universe: Portland, Oregon brewing legend and Ecliptic Brewing founder John Danis, and Luke and Walt Dickinson, the hop-and-funk brewmaster duo behind Asheville, North Carolina’s Wicked Weed Brewing. It seemed no single beer could adequately convey all that they and Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele bring to the brewhouse. So, this veritable triad of power opted to brew TWO beers: a traditional Belgian-style tripel and a West Coast imperial IPA. Doing so allowed them to work within the parameters of all styles while taking things in interesting directions, adding a touch of Southern Califomia style and petting into the spirit! The tripel was transferred into barrels that originally housed red wine before finding a second life as vessels for aging tequila. Four months later,that beer was excavated, then blended at a one-fifth to four-fifths ratio with the freshly brewed double IPA to create the beer you now hold: a hind of the traditional and the new, presenting a variety of diverse flavors that coalesce into something more unique than any one beer our trio could have conceived. Its eventual flavors were a mystery to even the group of master brewers who created it, but now they await the palates of those thirsting to venture to points unknown within the rapidly expanding craft beer galaxy. Another interesting release that will see national distribution. Based on the information given, this is probably some IPA that came by to visit this reality from like the 9th dimension of craft beer existence. It really intrigued me especially since it is a Belgian Tripel IPA but also aged in wine and Tequila. Go figure the complexity. Either way, Lets hope we can make it back to this reality at hand as it seems this buzz trip is headed where no palates have gone before. It’s On! Cheers!

Overall:
An exceptional IPA that pretty much takes what you believe an IPA should be (Hoppy) and turns it into so many different flavors that it is all over the and yet supremely enjoyable and reminding you that the hops it does have are different for sure. It seems to be more of a tripel than it is an IPA but still an IPA and the Tequila and Wine…. damn it was a mission to cover this beer. Very enjoyable and something beyond a regular IPA. Find this one!

Anime Corner:
Hikoujouki, Senkanseiki and Wo-Class from Kancolle/ Kantai Collection were used in this pairing as the points unknown as not only represent three freaky creatures but also the colors work with the beer artwork. First, the girl on the left is Ecliptic as her hair curves with the phases of the moon. Stone in the back with the girl having horns is synonymous of Stone’s gargoyle and finally, Wicked Weed on the right having a big bug. Bugs live in weeds. Anyways, they are wicked (As in Awesome). Yeah they totally look like they aren’t of this world, complimenting the beer perfectly.

Label:
You know that satisfying good feeling you get when your belly gets rubbed? Yeah… like that. So go ahead have a sip, sit back, paws up, and say, “hahh haahh haah.”

==Introduction==

I have over looked this beer many times and did not really bother to get although I really liked the label. There was always something else I wanted to try but recently I saw it again and I thought to myself, I have to get it now or miss the chance. I said screw it! So here we are with the little dalmatian on the label. Looks like Disney may have over looked this one as the little puppy resembles one of the 101 dalmatians. Disney selling beer? Nah, no way! Anyway, here you have it. This Belgian Triple is aged in Bourbon Barrels. I have not tried many Tripels aged in Bourbon so trying this I hope it is as awesome as some of the other great BBA beers I have tried in the past. Let’s try out this one shall we? Cheers!

Aftertaste:
Apricots, White Wine grapes, caramel, waffle cone, bourbon hints, Danish cookies, honey, citrus and biscuit bread lingers. No alcohol in the taste, Hazy Golden medium body, moderate and creamy body and moderate to sipping drinkability.

Overall:
A bit over the perfect mark. This beer is pretty pleasant allowing a good amount of honey and stone fruit sweetness along with the mild tart citrus and apricot notes and more. Something about the aging process or maybe the type of bourbon used here pairs it well to unleash the rich Stone fruit flavors. I would definitely recommend this as this thing oozes with a lot of Stone fruit flavors and oak. A great tripel and the bourbon barrel aging just does its wonders.

Anime Corner:
Original Dalmatian Girl by Hirano Katsuyuki was chosen for this pairing to go with the little cute dalmatian puppy. It really looks like a Disney character. Also, trying to find something that would pair with the label was hard to find. Not only could I hardly find a cute anime girl but a Dalmatian one at that. I only found it in one place but you can see how well it pairs especially as she approaches the beer. The beer gives a Belly rub from the inside and definitely please man’s best friends search for great beer. I am not sure if dogs drinking beer is good, but it seems to make them happy. Overall very cute

==Introduction==

Recently on tap, Monkish created a variant of their Seme Della Vita which I had reviewed long ago. Seme Della Vita itself is probably my favorite beer yet from Monkish and is pretty much my goto when I am at their brewery. So you can only imagine how much I wanted to try their Coffee Variant and possibly bring it forth to the site. Now to this day, Seme Della Vita is the only Pistachio Belgian beer I have ever tried and has yet to see a bottle release. I am sure the day it does, people will definitelywant to get their hands on this. So this particular variant may or may not even see the light of public day but at least you know such existed. Either way, if you happen to be in the Torrance area, you have to try this one and try some of Monkish Belgian beers, they are pretty damn phenomenal. Aromas:
Rich coffee, mocha, espresso, java coffee, Khalua cream, vanilla, pistachio ice cream hints, peppercorns, cinnamon, White chocolate notes, chocolate hints, biscuit bread, butterscotch, stone fruit apricots, peaches and cream, apples, flan, tres leches cake, hazelnut nectar, underlying citrus, coriander spice, clove spice and bananas.

Flavors:
Rich Vanilla, mocha coffee, roasted coffee, Java coffee, dulce de leche caramel, biscuit bread, maple syrup, frappuccino, almonds, pecan pie, hazelnut, stone fruit apricot, peaches, apples, butterscotch, Khalua hints, peppercorns, pistachio ice cream, Irish cream, tootsie rolls, strawberry hints, grape, white chocolate, Danish cookies, cake batter, Twinkies, Tres Leches cake notes, citrus, orange peel, coriander spice, phenolic notes, candi sugar, rock candy, flan, crème brulee hints, bananas and clove spice.

Aftertaste:
Coffee lingers along with rich nuttiness of pistachios, cinnamon, vanilla, and candi sugar hints then leavings dry. No alcohol in the taste, clear as day yet golden amber body, syrupy and creamy mouthfeel and sipping drinkability.

Overall:
Perfect and more! With the original Seme plus the introduction of the complex Ethiopian coffee brings out some extra richer notes that were typically not found in the original Seme. The fact that this is a light clear beer but drinks like dark Belgian coffee, is simply crazy. Almost reminds me of those golden stouts, but I digress. All I can say is that I am an even greater fan of this one for sure. If you love the original Pistachio Seme Della Vita and love coffee, well let’s just say this is damn bliss!

Anime Corner:
Anemone from Eureka 7 was used in this pairing as she resembles Eureka which I used in the first Seme Della Vita Pairing. As you can see, the darker colors and pinks represent the change of the beer into the strong dark coffee and more fruity like version of the original Seme Della Vita. This is a coffee dream indeed…

Big Experimental Brew Batch No. 1 by Texas Big Beer Brewing is an 11.4% ABV Belgian Quad/Belgian Golden Strong Tripel hybrid.

Commercial Description/Lab Notes:
This is our first big experiment to make it on the shelves. This beer is a Big Belgian style beer with all the traditional flavors you expect from fermenting a beer with Belgian style yeast. It is basically a cross between a “Belgian Triple” and a “Belgian Golden Strong.” If you had to force it into a single style it would most resemble a “Belgian Quad” or even bigger! This beer pours a rich golden color and has a rich, sweet malt flavor and a full body mouthfeel. This beer is brewed with a crazy amount of amber Belgian candi syrup which gives it the golden color and really influences the flavor.

With an ABV North of 11% this beer should be respected!

At an even more special time, this special experimental beer came from my friend Aaron at www.beermetaldude.com who advised this was very great beer. I was not sure what to expect and felt pretty honored to try an ‘experimental beer’ especially one that was made in Texas. This is my first beer from Texas Big Beer Brewing company and already I can see that they like to brew some Big Beers as this Big Experiment has a Big ABV at 11%. The fact that this one is a Quad!? Say no more and let us get on with the review.

Aromas:
Dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, bananas, clove spice, rock candy, dark candi sugar, piloncillo sugar cone, brown sugar, pecan pie, dark fruits like raisins, plums, figs, dates, dark cherries, pecan pie, hazelnut, maple, peppercorn, leather, peach cobbler, toasted rye bread with butterscotch, apples and stone fruit like apricots and mango.

Flavors:
Rich piloncillo sugar cone, dark fruits like raisins, plums, figs, dark cherries, stone fruits like mango, peaches, apricots, apples, dragon fruit, raisin bread pudding, vanilla, pecan pie, honey dew melon, peppercorn, bananas, clove spice, biscuit bread, brown sugar, peach cobbler, rock candy, dark candi sugar, toasted rye bread with butterscotch spread, Danish cream, honey, dulce de leche caramel, maple, leathery hints and chocolate hints.

Aftertaste:
Banana notes, dark fruit, stone fruit, caramel, vanilla, maple, piloncillo sugar and peppercorn. No alcohol in the taste, a sipping beer with an almost silky mouthfeel and an amber gold clear to medium body.

Overall:
Damn!! For being my first Texas Big Beer brew, and an experimental recipe at that, this one was mind blowing. Quads and Belgians are some of my favorite beers and this one knocked out my critique out of the park. It is freaking delicious as the blend of the Tripel and the Golden Ale style somehow drinks like if it was a quadrupel. It is insane how the alchemy turns this into a special magic potion.

Anime Corner:
Original art work by imp (sksalfl132) was used to present the hybrid monster that was unleashed by the experimentation of a Tripel and a Golden Ale. While the scientist was not prepared to show how delicious this monster was gonna be, she could only cry at the awesomeness of it. This is one powerful beer.

The last beer in the Lord of the Rings The Hobbit beer series. So far, the other 2 have been very good and I wanted to save this one for last as it is a Belgian Tripel. Belgian and Belgian styles are typically some of my favorite beers in the world. Some tripels are better than others, so the fact that the last one is a Belgian, this I had to try. Let us see how awesome this one is, cheers!!

Aromas:
Bananas, floral notes, stone fruit peaches, plums, apricots, cherries, peppercorns, tropical fruit pineapple, papaya, clove spice, brown sugar, caramel, flan hints, vanilla, sweetened condensed milk, rock candy and oranges.

Flavors:
Bananas, Stone fruit peaches, apricots, plum, cherries, honey, vanilla, caramel, biscuit bread, peppercorn spices, clove spices, coriander hints, tropical fruits like pineapple, papaya, sweetened condensed milk hints, flan hints, oranges, tangerine preserves, floral notes, candi sugars and rock candy.

Aftertaste:
Citrus, banana, biscuit bread, clove spice, banana, mild earthy hop bitterness and stone fruit. No alcohol in the taste, slightly syrupy mouthfeel, sipping drinkability and hazy medium to full body.

Overall:
Damn, I think this one was the best of the 3. This beer is freaking awesome and super delicious. It is very fruity and the Belgian candi sugars with the clove spice is brilliant and delicious. I would definitely get this one but also get the other ones especially if you wanna try the whole collection. Nevertheless, of the 3, this one is my favorite.

Anime Corner:
Sylvanas windrunner and dark elf from World of Warcraft were used in this pairing to pair with the Fantasy aspect of the Hobbit Series which pairs with the World of Warcraft. Also, the grey windrunner’s evil stare is like the evil star of Bolg and just to add everything to even make more of a better pairing, the armies behind are like the dark armies in the Lord of the Rings. Win-Win!

Flavors:
Like A Belgian beer soaked in fruity pebbles, vanilla ice cream, waffle cone, candi sugars, stone fruit apricots, peaches, plums, mangoes, lychess, canteloupes, cherries, blueberry hints, apples, matured oranges, citrus, tangerines, grapefruit, apples, pineapple, mandarin orange preserves on biscuit bread, honey on rye, candi sugars, bananas, clove and coriander spices, flowers, peppercorns, almonds milk, honey dew, grapefruit, flan and crème brulee.

Aftertaste:
Lots of stone fruit, honey, peppercorns, Belgian bread with clove and coriander spice in the finish. No alcohol in the taste. A sipping beer with some crisp and refreshing aspects and medium mouthfeel.

Overall:
Holy shit, I was damn surprised by this one. If you want to try something similar, try Tripel Karmiliette. That was very similar, although I will admit, this one had more fruitier flavors. This was like biting into a fresh fruit. It was very fruity. Definitely recommend this one to the masses if you like extra fruitier Belgian Pales/ Tripels/Blond Ales.

Anime Corner:
Aquarius from the Saint Seiya Golden Angels series was chosen in this pairing to show case the colors of the label and the flavors. There are a variety of Stone fruits that relate to the beer name and even though Aquarius is not stone, unless you mean the fact that Aquarius holds the liquid fruit in a stone pitcher or ceramic pot, then sure I guess it could work. Aquarius is the free flow of sweet nectar that hold it in the pot ready to be poured. The beer is in a pot like fat bottle and like Aquarius pouring the water, we pour the sweet nectar of gold to enjoy and bring forth the great treasures of the beer. Can you find any other things that pair well with this beer?

Amarillo and Mount Rainier hops balance out the Vienna malt character. The finish is dry and warm, perfect for those “chilly” San Diego winters. Birds of a feather drink together.

The 4th release of the 12 Christmas beers of San Diego has been released this year for the winter. I wanted to get this beer up and tried to go along with the other 2 beers I have tried from them, which were the Mouette Trois and the Parrot in a Palm Tree. Total Wine and More has recently released this one in Redondo Beach but I am sure it will hit many stores very soon.

Aromas: 
Apricots, peppercorn, citrus, floral hops, orange juice, mango, pineapple, honey, biscuit bread, caramel, pears, peaches, coriander spice, stone fruit, golden raisins, bananas, clove spice and apples.

Flavors:
Bananas, peppercorns, clove and coriander spice, golden raisins, stone fruits like peaches and apricots, caramel, biscuit bread, pineapple hints, floral hop notes, citrus, orange peel, honey and toffee

Aftertaste:
Stone fruit and peppery spices linger with a touch of caramel and flowery hop bitterness. No alcohol in the taste but moderate to sipping drinkability.

Overall:
It is a very good Tripel, but not something that is super mind blowing or something too new. It reminds me of some of the great Tripels out there. So if you like Tripels, you have probably had this one or one that is way better. On its own it still very delicious

Anime Corner:
Choosing anime pairings was simple but difficult at the same time. I wanted to get 4 girls to continue the number aspect of the beer. The only problem was trying to pair them as 4 scowling girls or even pair them as with the label colors or beer flavors. So the only thing I could find was 4 matching girls and 4 girls looking bad ass. They may not be scowling per say, but they sure as hell ain’t smiling, at least the first artwork piece with Fate/Stay night girls are not smiling.

Lips of Faith series Pluot by New Belgium

Cross pollinate your tastebuds with Belgian imagination and you’ll be sipping this ale while visions of pluots dance in your head. Pluots? A hybrid of apricots and plums that impart a subtle sweetness. Ferment that with a wild Belgian yeast strain and you have a fruity yet spicy nature with a body reminiscent of red wine. Delicious.

Along with Paardebloem, I picked up the second summer Lips of Faith ale, Pluot. I figured why not as I am trying this years releases so far. By the way, so far, Cascara has been the winner in the tastings. I actually had to get several of those. Love me some quads 😛 . Well, anyways, time to check this one out. Although by what I am seeing, an apricot/plum fusion does sounds good.

Aromas are of light plums, peaches, biscuit malt, light caramel and honey. Very limited in fragrance.

Flavors are of peach, plum juice, light caramel, biscuit bread, citrus, slight tart but possibly not to the wine level just notes of it. It also tastes like grapes, toffee, apples, sugar cookies and light rye bread.

The aftertaste is mildly sweet but hard to believe it is 10 percent. Especially in the taste. It finishes pretty dry. Seems easy to drink, way too easy lol. Kind of scary but awesome.

Overall it is a still pretty good beer for sure with nice flavors, but I guess I expected more. Still a killer clear body beer. I’d get this this often if I wanted to just get hammered. The notes of Belgian character is still present. If you pick this up, just to try it, go for it but do not expect lots of magic. Just a nice decently good beer, that will probably get you wasted as you cannot tell the ABV in the taste.

First time hearing about this beer I was surprised since I have never heard of a beer that is brewed using pistachio nuts. Monkish Brewing happens to be very close to where I work so I figured I could not miss out an opportunity for this. Normally I do not do reviews for on-draft brews. Mainly because I have not found one that required me to pair it with an Anime artwork like I usually do for other beers on this site. I usually like how labels compliment the artwork but also mainly how the beer does in terms of flavor, smell, history artwork and such. I had heard that this beer would never leave the brewery as it was highly coveted. There are no growler pours to take home, they do not distribute kegs of this nor do they plan to ever bottle this one. Funny things happen when something gets really loved. Beers become very limited and only few batches made. I had asked them to keep making it at least as this had become my new favorite of from all the different beers I have tried from Monkish so far. Hopefully, one day they will change their mind and distribute more, even bottle it. That way everyone can try this nice piece of lost treasure of art and taste.

Aromas of this beer are phenomenal! Biscuit bread, rich vanilla, caramel, pistachio and hazelnut notes, cake, cinnamon, peaches, peppery notes, apples and notes of chocolate reminiscent of a light “White Chocolate” beer from “The Bruery” but without the bourbon and deeper chocolate. There are also some nice notes of citrus and flan.

Flavors are of very rich vanilla, caramel, pistachio nuts, almonds, cinnamon, hazelnuts, coconut notes, apple notes, cake batter, vanilla Twinky, Tres Leches cake notes, flan, peppercorn hints, peaches and cream notes and bananas

As the beer gets warmer, the the vanilla starts to give off notes of chocolate and candi sugar. I almost thought I was drinking the White Chocolate beer.

Aftertaste leaves off sweet and going into the pistachios nutty notes, cinnamon and vanilla.

Overall this beer is awesome, but it is definitely a sipper. While the alcohol is hidden in the flavor, it still felt as you go. Even for a clear body of a beer like this, it was crazy how much complexity they were able to get with this. A very unique beer with some uncommon ingredients. Should be sought if you are ever in the Los Angeles area. Hopefully one day they will make enough of this for all to try :3 . Like the art work implies, this is a beer lover’s dream, get lost in it!

 

Heavenly Feijoa Tripel Lips of Faith series collaboration by New Belgium and Brasserie Dieu du Ciel!

Heavenly Feijoa Tripel Lips of Faith series collaboration by New Belgium and Brasserie Dieu du Ciel! is a 9%ABV Abbey Tripel brewed with Feijoa and Hibiscus

Oh my God. It’s not only a reaction for drinking one of Dieu De Ciel’s beers, but a figurative translation of the Montreal brewery’s name. Just ask our brewmaster, he’s in heaven when drinking this collaborative tripel, inspired by Dieu De Ciel’s love of hibiscus and Belgians love of the obscure, hence our addition of tart feijoa fruit. Cheers!

Upon opening this beer I got this exotic fruit fragrances. Like a passion fruit but I also got this spice like a herb that would go with chicken. Upon online research I found that a Fejoia is a pineapple guave which comes from South America. I have never had it but this stuff is nice to the nose. I also get some fragrances of bread, pineapple, citrus, guava, banana, papaya, flowery hibiscus, cloves, peppercorns, honey, grapes, coriander spice, tangerines and flowers. The flavors are very good. This reminds me of like a Dogfish Head beer. Something like Midas Touch or Ta henket. It has some nice white grape flavors, honey, agave, biscuit bread, guava, orange, lemon grass, tangerines, pineapple, kumquats, , a little bit of banana and papaya, apples, some tart hibiscus flower drink (Jamaica), cloves, peach cobbler, cinnamon, peppercorns, grapefruit, and slight grassy hops. The after taste remains pretty fruity afterward. It is not as heavy as Guava Grove but it is quite refreshing with a good amount of fruit and complexity. I can only see this as a Tripel since it has those peppercorns but also because of the Belgian bready notes although the fruity portion of the beer is what really takes the cake here. Awesome and worth a try for sure. Some people might find it’s drink ability along with complexity appealing.
