MXYZPTLK collaboration by Bottle Logic and J. Wakefield Brewing
MXYZPTLK collaboration by Bottle Logic and J. Wakefield Brewing is a 13.11% ABV Imperial Porter brewed with Dulce De Leche, Cuban-Style Roasted Espresso Beans & Cassia Bark/Cinnamon sticks and aged in Rum Barrels
Label:
Named after DC comics mischievous character that breaks all physical laws of the DC universe with cartoon like antics. Similar to Arale by Akira Toriyama, a character that even breaks the Dragonball Universe. I think the assumption was for a beer that would break reality, or in this case, flavor perception and experience and possibly bring one into a journey accessing another realm of existence or even something unknown. Released in October 2017 through special ticket releases (which sold out in seconds) this beer is a collaboration with J Wakefield brewing. The last time I tried one from J Wakefield was with the Bruery’s sour collaboration with the use of dragon fruit. So while, J Wake Field is very popular in Florida, Bottle Logic is the same. It was hard to get this release to the point where I barely made it. While Bottle Logic has not been on my radar until recently due to their hard to get beers, I got lucky in obtaining this one. Mainly since it was a beer made with some really delicious ingredients. A beer with dulce de leche huh? Well, then, looks like “Someone Copies Mes”, since I once made a Goat Milk Dulce de leche Caramel and Banana Weizenbock homebrew. So While I know I can’t really compare, I am super intrigued by this one since it is a Café Cubano Tiramus inspired beer and wanted to see just how much of a hype this one might be. Let’s have a look, cheers!
Aromas:
Rum filled pastries, dark fruits, raisin capirotada, cinnamon, pecan pie, almond joy, toasted coconut, milk chocolate covered raisins, sweetened condensed milk, bananas, dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, pan dulce, fruit cake, Mexican chocolate, champurrado, mocha, Khalua, liqueur, tobacco, leather, ginger bread, espresso, Café Cubano Tiramasu, prune juice, flan, Jericalla Mexican custard and piloncillo sugar cone.
Flavors:
Super Rich, dulce de leche covered pan dulce, cinnamon, pecan pie, cuban dark fruit pastries, cuban coffee tiramasu, raisin capirotada, dark fruit prunes, raisins, plums, figs, currants, craisins, dried strawberries, raspberries, pomegranates, blueberries, funnel cake, Rum egg nog, Rum walnut nog, ginger bread, Mexican chocolate, milk chocolate, chocolate covered raisins, piloncillo sugar cone, champurrado, flan, Jericalla Mexican custard, borrachitos Mexican alcoholic jelly and milk candies, pumpkin pie, cane sugar, brown sugar, mocha, fancy coffee, espresso, roasted coffee, Khalua Liqueur, Irish cream, nutmeg, marshmallow smores, butter pecan ice cream, tobacco, leather, sweetened condensed milk, tres leches cake, bananas, clove spice, brown sugar, vanilla, roasted barley, tiramasu, toasted coconut and almond joy chocolate.
Aftertaste:
Aftertaste is chocolate covered raisins for days, mocha, ongoing Café Cubano Tiramasu, Marshmallow, Rum Eggnog, Mexican Hot chocolate, Ginger bread cookies, tobacco, milk and jelly alcoholic candies/borrachitos, rum, cinnamon, dark frits and rich dulce de leche that never ends! No alcohol in the taste, pitch black abyss full body, smooth, creamy, syrupy, chewy and velvety and sludgy mouthfeel. Sipping is a must! I cannot stress this enough, the drinkability is slow and steady. A whole glass like I poured is not a good idea! Save for later.
Overall:
Damn, Diabeetus… in a bottle! Not gonna lie, this is freaking amazing but surely took me like 2 hours to finish a small glass. This is literally the most sugar coma inducing beer but I love it!. Pure postre de Café Cubano. This is in that level of bucket list that might actually be that which makes one kick the bucket, but damn you’ll go through one hell of a ride indeed. I feel like this fits in one of those infomercials. You can use this to pour over ice cream or pancakes or anything! The sweetness is only slightly cloying but the coffee, rum, earthy, dark fruit and cinnamon complexity seem to cut a lot of the sugar pureness big time. Although it may be too much for some palettes, but that is probably for the best. The original MXYZPLK was not understood by the world of DC and maybe the real world may not get this one, but damn, if you truly want to know the heart of all pastries in the most complex form into another dimension, give this one a find or a trade.
Anime Corner:
Sash Lilac from Freedom Planet makes an appearance in this pairing of Bottle Logic mainly for the colors of the beer. Granted, not much pairs with her other other than colors, but that poncho/zarape she is wearing is reminiscent of Latin and the Americas in relation to some ingredients used such as the Dulce de Leche, Cuban Coffee and Cinnamon. The beer being Cuban inspired, the island surrounded by water and Lilac being a water dragon. I would like to think that in some instances, other than the rich lilac color, that she fits very well with this one. Besides, this is my 4th Bottle Logic beer I have ever had in bottle form aside from taps and so I really choose my characters wisely for the reviews. Lilac happens to be one of my top favorite anthropomorphic anime/video game characters.

Label:

We did it. We put a peanut butter jelly sandwich in a bottle. Some would say that this is a crime against all that is decent in the world of craft beverages, but this Peanut Butter Jelly Crime has yet to receive judgement from you, a distinguished member of the jury. So carefully examine all of the evidence provided by the prosecution, and consider the alibi of the defense, as you decipher the multifaceted complexity of the case. As you enjoy PBJC, don’t forget the toast!
==Introduction==
Oh I heard of this one! Fuck yeah heard of this one. I herd of it so much that I hard damn time getting this one. There was only a single place that I knew of that had this mead on deck and that one the San Diego BestDamnBeerShop.com Granted, this bottle was expensive, but for the rarity and for what it was…(Let’s be honest, I had a sweet spot for peanut butter and PBJ anything) I could not pass up bringing this special mead to the site. Besides the fact that it is peanut butter, it is another reason for me to create my own peanut butter and jelly mead or beer! It is really inspiring and one that if I love this, will definitely figure out the recipe. Let’s have a look, cheers!
Aromas:
Rich dark fruits, blueberries, dark cherries, raisins, wine grapes, pomegranates, wild flower honey, mixed nut notes, Peanut butter for days, Nutter butter cookies, peanut butter brittle, banana hints, special pastries, chocolate, dark candy sugars, port wine, apple pie and fruit cake.
Flavors:
Rich blueberries, raspberries, dark fruit raisins, figs, dark cherries, cherry yogurt, raspberry chambord, cranberries, pomegranates, port wine, wine grapes, dark candi sugar, wild flower honey, butter scotch, peaches and cream, apple pie, candied apples, banana notes, banana cream notes, chocolate notes, rock candy, peanut butter, butter butter cookies, Reeces pieces, hazelnut, walnuts, pralines, pancakes, waffle cone, waffles, pecan pie, boysenberry cobbler, rye bread, biscuit bread, molasses, fruit cake, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, dulce de leche caramel and flan.
Aftertaste:
Finishing sweet with lingering blueberries and mixed dark fruits along with that nice slippery, peanut buttery goodness, honey, banana, berry pastries, wine grapes, raspberry liqueur, mixed nuts and more. No alcohol in the taste, and very dangerous at that. The color is a magenta rose clear body, smooth, creamy, buttery and velvety mouthfeel along with a drinkability that is extremely easy and extremely dangerous. I think the crime part is starting to make sense.
Overall:
Hands down, next to the Dragon’s Milk aged mead, the best mead in fucken existence period! What is this?!?!! WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!!!? Literal, peanut butter and jelly liquid bliss and not even the chocolate kind. Yesh, essentially the kind you can soak up in pancakes and have immediately. Everything I love about Peanut butter and Jelly, in mead form becomes a bigger punch in the face. Granted, the roasty chocolate and coffee found in beers with peanut butter and jelly help, in the hands of pure fermented honey seems like an unheard of ambrosia. There is a reason for the name. It is a crime if you finish this in one sitting but damn it is exquisitely tempting. I highly recommend it if you can find it.
Anime Corner:
Sasha Lilac was brought back for this pairing as I had decided to bring her for a another peanut butter and jelly pairing time. Now in order for this to work with the label and the theme of the mead, I had to mix the pairings to make it seems like crime fighting and investigating is part of the overall fight of the crime specified in the label. Examples include her reaching out in rage realizing what has happened in the game, one even involves taking down a suspect. Others seems more simple but have a them going that complements this story.

Label:
It’s peanut butter jelly time peanut butter jelly time! Where You at, Where You at? Now there ou go there you go, peanut butter jelly peanut butter jelly!! Damn. If PB Thursday wasn’t enough, they went ahead and added some jelly into the peanut butter mix! Granted, this is not Black Tuesday, but it might as well be. This beer since its inception was another beer that came from waayyyyy left field along with what White chocolate with cherries. I have to admit, the Bruery keeps pushing that damn limit of taste and experience forward and forward with every release. It’s a reason I am still a member of their reserve society for many years. This beer might just be the next favorite in the list of supremes for me from the Bruery. Time to take it to trial! Cheers!

Overall:
That baseball bat had nothingon this extremely bready, peanut butter and mixed berry jelly dessert. No fucking contest. This thing is definitely something that I think can stand toe to toe with the greats of Brury’s Weekday series, the White Chocolates and even more! I have no wordsleft to describe this glory of a beer. It is essentially something that I always wanted to see bottled. I have tried the few PB&J beers I could get my hands on and all were phenomenal, but this… this is just to the amazing super 4th or 5th dimension above. Get this beer if you can!!! They might still have it on tap as of August 2017!
Anime Corner:
Sash Lilac from Galaxy Trail Studios series, Freedom Planet! Was used in this pairing because a beer of this caliber definitely needed a character that paired greatly with my love for peanut butter and peanut butter jelly beers. Since I have been notorious to pair may favorite anime waifus in with some of the Bruery’s best, it was time that I brought her into the mix. What’s not to complement? Sash lilac is essentially that purple jelly that was missing from this peanut butter craze of mine. She is technically my new favorite addition to my already favorite list of top favorite anime characters only followed by Kos-mos, Temari, Yoruichi and Ryuko. She’s fast as hell and has a rightful sense of justice, she is humble and will stop at nothing to help out her friends and loved ones. Just the right character to pair a beer such as the this to the almighty Weekday series and above. This Peanut butter and jelly craze!

==Introduction==
So, we have SangriLeche doppelganger in our site ey? Well then, only one thing to do here, time to step up to the plate. The ingredients seemed very close to what I used to make my homebrew except missing the vanilla and cocoa nibs but that is besides the point. A milk and oatmeal stout? Double smoothtness to the max! I have not tried anything Fremont but seeing as Perennial was involved, it can only mean the goodness. Essentially, when I first saw this beer locally, I had to grab it. Little that I know that it would soon be a super coveted magic potion with fairy dust (glitter engulfed) that many it would start to sell out everywhere. Yes it seems people went mad for yet another beer. This beer is literally covered in glitter which makes me wonder if glitter is one of the ingredients inside the beer. Even if its not it seemed amazing and I could not wait to bring it to the website especially now that I know people really liked this one. Well then, let’s see what this magical potion is all about, cheers!
Aromas:
Super cherry Cordial fluff and sparkling chocolates, banana split, dulce de leche caramel, pecan pie, Nutella, mint chocolate cake, Chambord Raspberries, port wine, dark chocolates, dark fruits, hazelnut nectar, blue berries, bourbon hints, cake frosting, grape jelly, Fondant pearl juice (sugar candy syrup) and more!
Flavors:
Hopes, Dreams, Clouds of marshmallows and 5th dimension ambrosia delights. That’s it… what? You wanna know more? Okay that was just the tip of the iceberg. SO then, it goes into an array of super choco chocolate goodness. Rich super milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cherry cordials, dark fruit currants, raisins, blue berries, raspberries, blue raspberries, cake frosting, sweetened condensed milk, coconut, bourbon, oak, banana split for days, cookie dough ice cream, molasses, mint chocolate cake, Chambord Raspberry Liqueur, port wine, Nutella, mocha, pecan pie, hazelnut nectar, Cherry sunday, vanilla, crème brulee, tres leches cake, tiramasu, mocha, marzipan, mazapan, toasted coconut, marshmallow smores, rocky road ice cream, walnuts, pralines, dulce de leche caramel, toffee, butterscotch, chicka cherry cola, fondant cake glaze, chocolate cherry mousse and more!
Aftertaste:
Finishing with Cherry Choco Chocolate Cordial and raspberry frosting for days, Nutella, dark chocolates, dark cherries, vanilla, caramel, oak, bourbon hints, mocha, pecan pie and banana split cherry sundae. No alcohol here or anywhere despite the ABV. The body is fully pitch black and abysmal with a non human visual spectrum of dark matter, 80’s magic, He-Man, Thundercats and Rick and Morty season 9 residuals. The mouthfeel is very smooth, mildly chewey, velvety, creamy and syrupy. Who has time to sip? Come right in, the dark magical water is fine even though this brew was made to be sipped and taken with ease. You could literally finish in one sitting if you wanted to.
Overall:
Well then, pastry stouts are a go! Although DDB would disagree. This one is a definite bucket lister for me and is a crazy little potion that I would love to have over and over again. While I think this is a step up from many beers that I love including my own awesome Sangrileche, it is awesome to know mines can still go toe to toe with this pastry brew. Let’s face it, this is similar to the beer I made if it was filled with cake fondant. Super complex, sweet, smooth, dreamy, cakey, glaze and all that fairy tail crap they told you when you were a kid. It’s fucking great! Like a kid in a candy store drinking his sugar bottle. Would I recommend it? You bet your fucking ass I would! Go find this one damn it!
Anime Corner:
Lilac Sash from Freedom Planet was chosen for this pairing because while she is in no way a unicorn, she is just as legendary as one since she is a dragon. Since she fit so well with the colors of the beers, the flavors and ingredients I had to bring her to pair with this. She’s been a favorite of mine as of recently since I started playing the game and with her powerful strength and great hero personality, why not? Oh and about the tears part in the name? Those are years of joy and good feels. I kinda made a funny with the Lilac trying to drink enough milk tearing up dreaming to be the bikini babe. Anyways, She fit the awesome beer!
Dragon’s Milk Reserve Coconut Rum Barrel Stout by New Holland brewing
Dragon’s Milk Reserve Coconut Rum Barrel Stout by New Holland brewing is an 11% ABV Imperial Stout brewed with coconut and aged in Rum Barrels.
Label:
Coconut complements the roasted chocolate flavor of Dragon ‘s Milk, coaxing flavors that are reminiscent of lazy summer days. Rum barrels add a tropical character and a distinctive twist on tradition.
==Introduction==
The time has come again, with another variant of the awesome Dragon’s Milk. I have tried this one several times and done many reviews as well. Today, I bring you the Coconut and Rum version of the brew. The only other dragon I have tried was the raspberry one and since I loved that one so much, it inspired me to make a raspberry and tropical fruit version of that same beer. So basically, the Dragon’s Milk and I go way back and the love for this beer keeps going. So with that being said, let’s take a look at the white whale of a dragon we have this time around. Cheers!
Aromas:
Mocha, Coffee Cake, Rich Almond Joy Coconut Chocolate, rum, vanilla, oak, dulce de leche caramel, capirotada raisin bread pudding with coconut, coconut and pecan pie, Danish cookies, hazelnut nectar, coconut chocolate truffles, fruit cake piña colada notes, dragon fruit, passion fruit, kiwi, choco flan, lactose milk sugar, crème brulee, toffee, dark fruit raisins, cherries, figs, currants, blackberries, fudge chocolate cake, rocky road ice cream and chocolate milk shake.
Flavors:
Liquid almond joy chocolates, toasted coconut, cocada Mexican candy, macaroons, oak, dulce de leche caramel, vanilla, rum, flan, crème brulee, toffee, dark fruit raisins, cherries, figs, currants, blackberries, fudge chocolate cake, rocky road ice cream, choco flan, lactose milk sugar, capirotada raisin bread pudding with coconut, coconut and pecan pie, marshmallows, peanut butter hints, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, chocolate milk shake, Irish cream, steamed coconut milk, coffee cake, espresso coffee hints, tobacco, leather, rye bread, anise, molasses, Danish cookies, mocha, hazelnut nectar, coconut chocolate truffles, fruit cake piña colada notes, dragon fruit, passion fruit, kiwi and lychee.
Aftertaste:
Finishes with super rich with coconut, tropical rum, vanilla, flan, almond joy chocolate, flan, crème brulee, fruit cake, rocky road ice cream, marshmallow, vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, toffee, and smokey notes. No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV, pitch black dark full body, creamy, smooth, syrupy and velvety mouth feel and an easy to moderate drinkability.
Overall:
A definite bucket lister. As much as I love the original or even the raspberry one which I believe are some of the best beers and a staple in my list of favorite bourbon barrel stouts, this coconut rum is simply another level altogether. There has been a trend for me with beer variants and it seems that coconut beers have been definitely out of this world. I definitely loved this one so much, I had to get several and I highly recommend you do the same and try the coconut deliciousness.
Anime Corner:
Sash Lilac from Freedom Planet and original character art by Tofu93 were chosen to be the dragons that go with this beer. As I mentioned before, the beer is a rarity like, like a white whale. Although, this one is a white dragon instead. So the under the sea part in the picture as Sash rises from the water represents that part. The other pics just complement as they are both dragons.
