2015 Barrel Aged Series Yeti Imperial Stout by Great Divide is a 12.5 % ABV Imperial Stout aged in Whiskey Barrels.

Label:
This unique version of Yeti Imperial Stout is aged for at least twelve months in Whiskey barrels. The spirited aging process produces a hugely complex but mellowed Yeti, with its signature roasted flavors, hints of vanilla, oak and a whiskeyed finish. Who says you can’t tame a beast?

==Introduction==

The Yeti is back! This time in a Whiskey Barrel aged form. I have enjoyed the many variants of the Yeti to date. Ever since the released of the Chocolate Oak Yeti, it was a no brainer to seek them out all the time. The original yeti was such a well-made stout that it reminded me of the many silky smooth stouts I have had in the past. Therefore, getting this special release to the site was a must. This should be distributed wherever they sell Great Divide beers but you can also get this one online. Now, before the sighting of the yeti disappears, let’s see what this is about. Cheers!

Aromas:
Bourbon, whiskey, rye bread, dark fruit raisins, plums, black currants, cherries, Bakers Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Dark chocolate, German Chocolate, Belgian Chocolate, Fudge chocolate, Soy sauce notes, plum sauce notes, oak, molasses, hazelnut nectar, Irish cream coffee, cinnamon, anise, maple, marshmallows, graham cracker chocolate smores smokey hints, vanilla, toffee, pecan pie, brownie batter, bacon hints, Mexican Custard/Jericalla and rocky road ice cream

Flavors:
Rich Bakers Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Dark chocolate, German Chocolate, Belgian Chocolate, Fudge chocolate, Molasses, Soy sauce notes, plum sauce notes, oak, bourbon, whiskey, rye bread, dark fruit raisins, plums, black currants, cherries, flan, dulce de leche caramel, campfire roasted marshmallows, graham cracker chocolate smores smokey hints, vanilla, toffee, pecan pie, brownie batter, chocolate cherry cake, rocky road ice cream, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, bacon hints, Mexican Custard/Jericalla, beachwood oak, hazelnut nectar, Irish cream coffee, cinnamon, anise and maple syrup.

Aftertaste:
Finishes with roasty notes, molassses, whiskey, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, bakers chocolate, earthy notes, fudge and dark fruit hints. Slight alcohol in the taste but not detracting from the flavor, pitch black body, smooth, creamy, velvety and syrupy body with a moderate to sipping drinkability.

Overall:
Supreme Yeti of Yetis! This was one of the best opportunities to see how a perfect Imperial Stout can go beyond its original base of flavors into something more complex. A boss mode if you will. With so much going on, even if the whiskey is noticeable a bit, I think this can be enjoyed now but will get way way better over time. So get one for now and save another one for later. Highly recommended!

Anime Corner:
Chimpett/Saru and Hebi which compose Zanpakutou Zabimaru from Bleach were used in this beer to represent the Yeti. I really liked how well it pairs especially the silhouette one as well and the label.

Oatmeal Yeti by Great Divide Brewing a 9.5% ABV Imperial Stout brewed with roasted oats and raisins

Label: 
Much like its legendary predecessors, this Yeti is big, bold and dark. The addition of rolled oats softens Yeti’s notoriously roasty backbone and the small amount of raisins added in the brew kettle create a unique dark fruit character. Just as admired as those that came before it, Oatmeal Yeti Imperial Stout is a softer beast.

I have reviewed a couple versions of the yeti. The first one was the chocolate oak yeti which I thought was delicious. Then came the Belgian Yeti and that one was more phenomenal. The oatmeal yeti is this year’s (2013) new yeti release

Aromas are of sweet, dark, and bakers chocolate, mild espresso notes, more mocha, dark fruits like raisins, figs, pecans, caramel, rich chocolate cake, brownies, smokey notes, brown sugar and slight marshmallows.

Flavors are of graham crackers, marshmallows, sweet, milk and dark chocolate, raisin bread pudding, pecans, hazelnut, almond joy, caramel, light espresso notes, oatmeal raisin cookies with chocolate chips, almost a vanilla hint, light smokey and oak notes, figs, chocolate raisin, currants, toasted coconut

The after taste is sweet, dark fruity, bready and chocolatey. The beer is kind of syrupy and velvety like some of the best Stouts I have ever tried. A sipper but not very aggressive to it is moderately drinkable and not so bitter. This is the stuff for certain. 

Overall an awesomely perfect yeti with added flavors that work very well giving another silky layer to an already awesomely complex imperial stout. The Yetis are probably a golden standard of prime imperial stout examples (Basic one’s ofcourse, as Barrel Aged or Belgian Imperial Stouts are in a league of their own). Definitely try this, without a shadow of a doubt, this is a must get unless you find the chocolate aged one or the Belgian one. These are all great. Careful drinking this one, it is kind of addicting and you may end up finishing the bottle.

First introduced in the winter of 1983, Bigfoot is a cult-classic beer brewed in the barleywine style, meaning a strong, robust, bruiser of a beer with the refined intensity of a wine. Bigfoot is prized by beer collectors for its supreme cellarability. Under the proper conditions, it can age like a fine wine, developing new flavors and character as it matures in the bottle. Each new release or “expedition” is vintage dated. Collect your own and see the flavors develop and progress.

Barleywines are the type of beer styles that that range from bitter to bittersweet and are intense in terms of alcohol, hops and complex flavors. They can also be cellared to age like wine. This beer has avery nice grassy and pinecone hop aroma, with other fragrances of caramel, lemon peel, honey, pineapple and biscuit bread. The flavors are of the nice Sierra Nevada pine cone, grassy hops at mild bitterness, pineapple, raspberry, apples, caramel, toffee, powdered sugar, cinnamon, butter on toast biscuit bread and slight boozy feel. As I said, these beers get better with age. This is probably too early in its stage but it will probably get a lot better after a while.
