A very special limited release that can only come from Texas! It is all thanks to my friend Aaron at www.beermetaldude.com. This is the second time I try a Deep Ellum beer and when I say the first one I tried, Four Swords, it was awesome. Now here is a beer that tell you what it’s gonna be about and there is not much you can do to escape it. This beer looks very seductive and sweet. When my friend Aaron first showed me a picture I was like Holy SHIT YES!!! DO WANT! So now here it is. Straight from the heart of Dallas Texas, traveling to California, here is the review. Cheers to you Aaron and the good folks at Deep Ellum! Thank you !

Overall:
I am a sucker for sweet cherry chocolate and seductive beers. What can I say . This ones out there! IT really has a rich complexity of sweets and enough coffee and earthy hops to keep everything in check but this is mainly a sweet awesome beer. If you somehow end up in Texas or were very fortunate enough to get this limited piece or can trade for it, GET IT! It is really is delicious and awesome.

Anime Corner:
Yoko Littner from Gurren Lagann was used in this pairing because I kinda wanted to sensualize the sexual cherry chocolate aspect that this beer brings. The label colors and the flavors pair all. Way too well that is is scary but pleasant. Perfect in all ways yes! The style of the art work used in the label and how it uses splashes of colors definitely pairs well. Yoko Represents all the cherry, chocolate and dark fruit of the beer.

From the Caldera Kettle Series ~ Limited Small Batch Release, Mogli is a beer I have been passing up for the longest time. I guess it wasn’t until recently when I read the label that this beer was made for the loss of one of the brewer’s pet that I was like awe man, this is cute. I definitely had to try it. Now, without further ado, here is Mogli!

Aromas:
Rich Milk, dark and bakers Chocolate, chocolate yoohoo, plantain bananas, rich vanilla, blackberries, blue berry muffins, hints of oak, bourbon, dulce de leche caramel, cocoa powder, cocoa krispies, peanut butter, oatmeal cookies, cookie dough, dark fruits figs and dates, pecan pie, hazelnut nectar, hints of coconut, rocky road ice cream, marshmallow, white chocolate, mocha and notes of Kahlua.

Aftertaste:
Lingering rich chocolate, banana and dark fruit complexities with hints of vanilla and caramel. No alcohol in the taste. A sipping beer with a smoothness that can be described like drinking chocolate milkshake. Medium mouthfeel and very creamy.

Overall:
HOLY SHIT! I love this beer! I definitely have a new favorite. Who would have thought that for beer that is not as coveted as many other well known beers, that this one literally takes the cake, or atleast a huge chunk of chocolate cake. I got this beauty at Ramirez but I have seen it in many places like total wine. I believe they release this almost every year so without a shadow of a doubt, a highly recommended must try. I think what really does this one in is the chocolate and the other ingredients it shows it is made from.

Anime Corner:
Original artwork by Saintversa and allinix of Deviant art were used in this pairing mainly because of the colors and the label. Blue Green or Teal is my favorite color but I mainly wanted to show a black canine as I am unable to find many good pictures to pair these beers with. I take a gut feeling and usually take a perspective when choosing these. In terms of chocolate and dark beer, I felt this was perfect because I wanted to show guilty pleasure and unconditional love, in whatever form it may be for the loss of a pet. Hence why the canine anthropomorphic pictures are hard to see. Especially since anthropomorphic I guess in the “Furry world” (Don’t quote me on this, I am not a Furry) is the dividing line between man and animal or maninal. Essentially I am trying to say how pets are part of a family and we love them as such. Either way, this beer is very special and pleasant that you have to try it!

Chocolate Porter by Hangar 24

Rating: 4.25/5

Chocolate Porter by Hangar 24 is a 8%ABV Porter brewed with chocolate malts, cocoa nibs and vanilla bean.

Label:

Rich and decadent. This strong porter is perfect for sipping at the end of the day or to accompany full-flavored foods. The intense, roasty flavor comes from two types of chocolate malt and raw cocoa nibs. Whole vanilla beans introduced post fermentation add complexity and enhance the dessert-like qualities of this full bodied beer. Indulge yourself! Additional Information: This beer began life as our Panamanian Porter with the flavors of chocolate, vanilla and banana. A truly unique beer, we felt that all those flavors needed some smoothing out so we changed yeast strains and eliminated the banana flavor (Which came from the yeast strain). The Panamanian Porter did have many fans however, and there may be plans in the future to bring it back for a special occasion. Stay tuned…

This beer reminds me of the split shot espresso milk stout but with more chocolate and vanilla and a lot less coffee. It is not as chocolate forth as the choklat or as chocolate intense as Black Tuesday or Chocolate Rain, but it is close. Probably close to the the Stone Vanilla Porter. However, that one was dead on with more vanilla and chocolate. The flavors you get in this beer are rich dark and milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, mocha, light coffee bitterness, some coconut and a bit of almond. This is a dessert beer, plain and simple, as close as a candy bar, but not pure liquid chocolate. LOL I am sure if they had raised the levels of chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla and alcohol, you would have something just like some of the best liquid chocolate beers in the world. It also helps that this fairly smooth, rich and creamy. While the beer is not completely full bodied that you can’t see anything, it is enough to let you know it is a porter. Quite a delicious porter and now a days easier to find than in the past. I found this one in a liquor store near my town of South Gate.
