Saison du Buff Aged in Red Wine Barrels is the aged collaborative brew of the Beer Epics, Stone, Dogfish Head and Victory Brewing. It is a 7.9% ABV Saison/Farmhouse ale. This one though, Stone decided to be evil and age it in Red Wine Barrels by Stone. Stone…you sure come up with some awesome ideas 😀
Label:
It’s a saison of sorts; hellaciously herbaceous and hopefully contagious. This was not a ready made ale. Buff is how we think, how we act, and who we are… Brewers united for freedom of flavor! Herbs in our brew? Impossible where I trained in Germany! But America has granted our breweries the amazing opportunity with gusto in making this collaborative ale. Other than the times we’ve seen each other at conferences and fests since we formed BUFF in 2003, this is the first chance we’ve had to get together over a brew (as in making it) and later, a brew (as in drinking it.) I hope you’re able to enjoy this collaborative effort with your old friends! – Sam, Bill, Greg
This beer has the same flavors of the saison du buff which I reviewed this and last year but with added aged in red wine. WTF does this do to the taste you may ask?…welll..It gives it a nice wine, oak, rosemary, sage, thyme, rosemary, parsley, apples, apricots, toast bread, and Gouda cheese in the after taste. This complexity of herbs, spices and wine is like no other. I almost want to say, it is a wine, cheese and crackers in a bottle. I’m getting some toast bread or cracker spread with Velveeta, seasoning, spices and drinking a lump of wine. Quite PURO PINCHE FANCY as my friend Sal would say and BOUGIE as my Alex would say. The flavors are quite complex…they are messing with my mind. Like all that that I explained but in drink format. This is crazy!!!!!!..WOW..Eschatological Ale+ Judgement Day Ale = It’s over!!!….SAISON LOVERS….THIS IS SPARTA!!!!!!…and by that I mean… if you find this….this could be the best Saison ever O.O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
