La Trappe Isid’or Oak Aged Trappist Ale by Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven

Rating: 4.5/5

La Trappe Isid’or Oak Aged Trappist Ale by Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven is a 7.5% ABV Belgian Pale Ale aged in Oak Barrels. This beer was specially brewed to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the brewery and was named after brother Isidorus who was the first brewer at the O.L.V. Koningshoeven Abbey. In his style, it was aged in Oak barrels which ensured the balance and rich taste after aging. La Trappe is known for brewing Authentic Trappist along side the other 6 breweries that brew delicious Trappist beers. This was an exclusive find I found at a store in Glendale. Not sure if they ran out. But if you happen to find this beer, well it is quite delicious. Drinks more like a Quad with Belgian Pale Ale personality. By this I mean the caramel, vanilla, dulce de leche bread and dark fruits like raisins, plums, sour apples and cherries are there but the grassy hops instead of being grassy, they are more earthy. This is kind of unique in a way because the yeast and hops of the Pale Ale side derive some wooden oak flavors that remind me of like a sweet buttery cheese bread but then finishes off with a special sweet wine taste. Quite the interesting little beer for sure 😛
