Beer Geek Brunch Weasel (Cognac Edition) by Mikkeller

Rating: 3.8/5

Beer Geek Brunch Weasel (Cognac Edition) by Mikkeller brewing is a 10.9% ABV Imperial Stout. This is quite a different beer. Many people would shun at the idea that something that came from an animal could possibly be taste any good. This is no exception, yet the type of coffee beans that this is made from is stupidly expensive. We are talking about a $50 to 80$ cup of coffee. I did not spend that much on a beer nor would I spend that much on coffee for only 1 cup. However, this is the stuff that I guess rich people drink because of the way it is made is considered a delicacy. I won’t focus on how they get these coffee beans but I will focus on how this beer tastes. This version of the Beer Geek Brunch is aged in Cognac Barrels. The beer reminds me of the Tactical Nuclear Penguin in terms of it’s strong smokey and boozy feel. However, this beer, despite being made with Civet Cat Weasel Coffee beans, is actually good. The dark chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, caramel and anise is there followed by the cognac warm after taste. There are minor cherry, raisin and plum notes in there as well. It definitely seems like the Cognac does overwhelm the coffee flavors. Some people may not like this but I like it because it compliments the excessive smokey flavor that I have tried in other stouts. So this works toward the beers advantage in that sense yet It probably not good for the coffee beans as you have look harder to find the expensive coffee flavor (which just by tasting this is very delicious). I would get the regular version but even though, this combination of beer does very well on its own.

Looks can be deceiving and I now know why pay top dollar for something like this, yet it is way cheaper to buy this beer than a cup of weasel bean coffee.
