Debutante American Rye Farmhouse Saison ale is 6.4% ABV collaboration between Gypsy Brewer, Stillwater Artisanal and The Brewer’s Art. Brewer’s art is a Baltimore institution which helped pioneer the Belgian Beer movement here in the States. The brew is made with Spelt and Rye as well as fermented in heather, honeysuckle and hyssop spices. The word Debutante or “female beginner” in french is the age when a upperclass girl has reached the age of adulthood into a woman. In the past it used to mean that it would be around the time they would look for a husband. Now a days it means different things. In Latin culture, it is basically a quinceañera. What does this say about the label? I have no idea. I just like how they want to say that once you hit that age, you have to battle it out to be a woman. Like they do for boys in other cultures. To be come a man, you must kick the representation of your childhood’s ass. Awesome…. FIGHT~!!
SO…about the beer… Caramel Rye bread sweetness with flowery honey flavors, raspberries, apples, light oranges and corriander as well. Very earthy hop ale. The after taste is like Jamaica (Spanish for hibiscus flower cold tea). This saison reminds me “Of Love and regret” which was made with other flowers. A very fragrant and aromatic saison worthy of Belgian praise.
