Cookies and Dreams collaboration by The Bruery and Abnormal Beer Co

Rating: 6/6

Cookies and Dreams collaboration by The Bruery and Abnormal Beer Co is a 10.4% ABV Cookie Inspired Imperial Stout brewed with Cacao Nibs and Vanilla Beans.

==Introduction==

I had originally tried this one at the Bruery’s 9th anniversary event and was recently given the opportunity to bring this one to the site. This one is inspired by Cookies and Cream ice cream. Essentially, the Oreo cookies and cream or at least what I believe it to be. It doesn’t use Black Tuesday but an original stout recipe brewed in the collaboration for this beer. I have not tried anything from Abnormal before so this would count. Also, the fact that this is an oreo based beer is something that I really really wanted to share. So let’s have at it, cheers!

Aromas:
Banana split, cookies and cream, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, dark fruits, pecan pie, hazelnut nectar, rocky road ice cream, coconut, anise, mocha ice cream, cherries, fruit cake, crème brulee, burnt sugar and sweetened condensed milk.

Flavors:
Chocolate chip cookies, Cookies and cream, oreos, vanilla, Danish cream, Irish cream, mocha coffee, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, German chocolate, cocoa powder, dark fruit raisins, currants, prunes, dark cherries, pomegranates, banana hints, anise, mint chocolate chip, white chocolate, cookie dough ice cream, rocky road ice cream, chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, dulce de leche caramel, licorice notes, jamoca ice cream, raspberry cordials, toffee, crème brulee, hazelnut nectar, pecan pie, cherry marzipan and fruit cake

Aftertaste:
Finishing rich with chocolate cookie dough flavors, vanilla, dark fruits, dark chocolate, caramel, fruit cake, cookies and cream, oreos, banana and mint chocolate chips. No alcohol in the taste despite the ABV. Pitch black body, smooth, creamy, velvety and chewy mouthfeel along with a sipping drinkability.

Overall:
An amazing beer! Lot’s of chocolate, oreo cookie and cream flavors. It doesn’t stop there though, there are so many flavors all over making this an overall cookies and cream dessert. The name is damn appropriate too. I have no idea if they mashed actual cookies in this but it sure feels like it. They gotta release this in bottles! If you have a chance to try it at the Bruery, definitely get it!

Anime Corner:
Harley Quinn from DC comics’ Batman series was chosen to represent the beer in the sense that the colors and flavors are sweet and insane! Essentially, with the black and white colors of the original Harley Quinn along side with the complex flavors of the Suicide Squad Harley, it make sense. Especially since you have the 2 Harleys representing the 2 breweries. It was kind of a stretch but in general, since I haven’t done a pairing with Harley, I felt this would be the right one.

14542338_10103598600023670_7047187959931120993_oRating: 4.75/5

2016 Salted Gose by Angel City brewing is a 4.3% ABV German Gose.

Commercial Description:
Gose (Goes-uh) is a very, very old German beer style that has been gaining popularity stateside over the past few years. A traditional gose is a low alcohol, sour wheat beer brewed with coriander and salt. Our version is soured in the traditional way using Lactobacillus, but instead of coriander, we complement the salt with caramel and vanilla for a deliciously refreshing treat

Found this one at my local market. While I don’t often review Angel City brews since the most common ones are average to subpar at times, I have reviewed the intriguing and unique ones. It is difficult to tell the quality of Angel City’s stuff as I know they contract brew through Samuel Adams so the beers you get in bottles are not always the same as the stuff you get at the brewery. Although the beers in the bottles have been very good recently. I can’t really speak for their local stuff as I have only been there twice. Needless to say, this Salted Caramel Gose was a unique one and I wanted to bring it to the site. Let’s have try shall we? Cheers!

Aromas:
Dulce de leche caramel, salty caramel popcorn, vanilla, honey, passion fruit, Guava hints, lemon merengue pie, funky notes, earthy hops, sea salt, lemon juice, floral notes, biscuit bread, bananas, clove spice, peppercorn, mild butterscotch, salted maize tejuino, sour apples and tart strawberries.

Flavors:
Vanilla, honey, almond, cereal notes, Dulce de leche caramel, Tart Guava, Lemon merengue pie, tart lemon juice, floral notes, biscuit bread, bananas, clove spice, peppercorn, salty caramel popcorn, candy corn, ginger notes, ginger bread, grapes, wine grape hints, funky notes, earthy hops, sea salt, mushrooms hints, maple syrup, mild butterscotch, salted maize tejuino, sour apples, tart strawberries, kiwi, mild passion fruit and toffee hints.

Aftertaste:
Finishes dry with cereal and honey hints, almond, caramel, vanilla guava and salted caramel popcorn.
No alcohol in the taste, honey colored clear body, crisp, clean, refreshing mouthfeel and easy to drink.

Overall:
Very delicious gose. It is amazing how they were able to get the sweet caramels, toffee, vanilla and other flavors to meld with the salty and dry flavors of from the Gose. Simply put, a light fluffy dessert beer. I must admit, I really hope this taste just as good locally than in the bottle because bottle wise they really have a winner here. I will definitely get this again and would recommend you give this one a shot too.

Anime Corner:
Harley Quinn from DC’s Batman and Suicide Squad was used in this pairing as I wanted to pair her with attitude. The name of the beer is Salted Caramel Gose. Essentially, sweet but salty. Harley is an awesome sweet and hot looking character but she is too unpredictable and psychotic like her partner, the Joker. Well, Joker is technically leagues above her in that department but the funny part is that she can take you on a pleasure cruise before it is all over and you’ll be swimming with the fishes in the salty sea.

A tribute to one of the best sitcoms growing up, Married with Children. Specifically, Al Bundy which was by Ed O’Neal. The reason my friend William Carranza chose Whoa Bundy!! as the name of the beer indicates as it is an American Pale Ale. As a American as Al Bundy and High School football of which he scored 4 touch downs in one game for Polk High. Thanks to Will for another awesome donation to the site. Let’s take a look and see what this one has to offer, cheers!

A very delicious pale ale having so many of the nice tropical fruits and citrus notes that I enjoy from IPAs and Pale Ales alike. There was so much in this one that it did make me go… Whoa!? With use of all Simcoe in this brew, it was something very good. Definitely one of my friend’s better beers and one that is worth trying again.

Anime Corner:
Dead Pool from Marvel Comics and Harley Quinn from DC Comics were used in this pairing since I wanted to find something Married with Children related. In this case, it is not Anime but Comics. I have done many comic book characters in the past especially since I like many of them. So the fact that I found one for Dead Pool with Harley was one of the most perfect pairings I’ve seen in a while. An awesome beer pairing at that.
