Tart of Darkness!!! by The Bruery is a 5.6% ABV Stout aged in oak barrels with wild yeast. The last known sour stout I tried as Madrugada Obscura by Jolly Pumpkin so trying this I had to see what it was all about. In comparison, I would say this beer focuses more on the sourness and dark fruits while Madrugada focuses on more dark chocolate and roasted coffee. The over all is still sour though. So how is this beer? Well, I am fan of a lot of different beers especially sweet beers. I like sour beers when done right. This one was done…amazingly right!!! While the overall beer is tart and funky sour as most of sour beers go with their wine and vinegary taste, this explores into some good dark fruits along with the dark chocolate, and smokey roasted espresso coffee notes. Cherries, raisins, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, oak wood and alittle bit of toasted bread is in there. Surely not a beer for those that do not like sours or stouts. Most people may actually find it hard to drink, but exploring into what this category of beers does take an open mind and an open palette. So choose wisely….do you dare enter the dark side with this medievil potion >:P
