Maredsous 10 Triple is a 10% ABV Tripel fermented ale from Brouwerij Duvel Moortgat NV. It is tripel made in Belgium in the Benedict tradition of the Maredsous community but instead of Belgium yeast being the dominant, it is actually the Barley malt. Unlike many tripels I have had in the past, this is more of amber and clear ale. Because the emphasis is not on the yeast, we get a whole other set of flavors than the usual banana bread and thick dark fruit potion. It is more varying in fruit flavors like grapes, apples, pears, peaches, citrus, pepper and caramel. It has more like a biscuit bread flavor. I almost want to say fat tire on steroids and without the chocolate amber flavor. Because the intensity of the barley and bitter fruit is very upfront, it hides the alcohol very well. It smells sweet but the sweet taste is minimal for other sweeter beers of this style. Not quite my style but still a nice Belgian brew none the less.
