Label:
WHERE HEAVEN MET EARTH AND STAYED AWHILE
To Ponder Your Thoughts
Once this beer was a dream, not quite finished.
Like a symphony missing a line.
A quadrupel, for nights of deep thinking, and we thought it was perfectly fine.
But we wated much more, so we pondered a while. We brewed on but our minds would not cease. Once we used cherries, and now, other, other lovely berries and Eureka! A dark Masterpiece!
This unique version of Three Philosophers unites caramel and chocolate notes of our malty quadrupel ale with strawberries and cranberries, for new complexities to invite your deepest consideration.

==Introduction==

Since the first time I have tried Three Philosophers, it has been till this day, one of my top favorite “common” beers in the world. Essentially right next to St. Bernardus abt 12 and Trois Pistoles. While I think even after this one, that beer will remain a favorite of mine, there is no doubt in my mind, that a first bottled variant of the original brings me so much joy, it is ridiculous. The original base beer was a quadruple and cherry kriek hybrid. This one, I am not sure what process they went with. Whether they blended a strawberry and cranberry lambic or just made a pure quadruple and brewed it with the fruit, I am not sure. One thing is for sure, Ommegang is one of my favorites when it comes to Belgian style brews. I have yet to go wrong with their beers. So with that said, cheers to a new variant of the Three Philosophers!

Overall:
Exceptionally awesome! Definitely up there with some of the best quads I love including the newer fruited quads I have tried like the Fig and raspberry quads from Figueroa Mountain and Mikkeller respectively, as an example. There is so much going on here ranging from the sweet dark fruit, chocolate and caramel flavors to the mild tartness brought by the fruit mix. As I mentioned before, while this one and the original are awesome in their own right, the fact that the original is my favorite, I will keep it that way. Still, this is a high recommendation for those that love Belgians and Quads!

Anime Corner:
Dizzy from Guilty Gear was brought back to represent the Three Philosophers as she did with the last beer. Essentially, she is one philosopher and the wings are the other 2 philosophers. This time however, I wanted to bring her with colors that would represent well with the new fruit additions to the beer. Still an awesome pairing to go with.

Crackberry by Bishop Cider Company

14560058_10103605755868300_3117435089830840374_oRating: 5/5

Crackberry by Bishop Cider Company is a 6% ABV Hard Apple Cider made with Cranberries and Black Berries.

Label:
Just one sip and you’re hooked

Stripped of all other nonsense

Crackberry is a perfect pairing of flavors tart and sweet, joining forces to create a colorful, well-balanced cider. Frankly, we’re over the moon for it.

You probably remember William Wallace as the fearless Knight who bared it all in the name of Scottish Independence. Ultimately, He failed to save his own skin. But he did successfully lead the rebellion against England.

That’s worthy another round no?

Fuck yeah! A cider from Texas! Special thanks to my friend and fellow beer review brother, Aaron Mendiola of BeerMetalDude.com for sending this one my way. I think this is the first cider I try from Texas. One with a combination of berry definitely sounds awesome and at 6% ABV, I can only assume it will be very refreshing. Bishop Cider makes ciders with no artificial flavors as shown on the site and the label. Pure apples and fruits. So I definitely can enjoy this one. Let’s see how it goes, cheers!

Aromas:
Rich dark fruit berries, cherries, cranberries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, passion fruit hints, dragon fruit hints, stone fruit peach hints, sweet grapes, white grapes, vanilla, apples and sangria.

Flavors:
Rich cranberries, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, cherries, grapes, lychee fruit, apples, caramel, candied apples, raspberry yogurt, Fruit punch, Kool-aid hints, Concorde grape skins, chardonnay, white wine, white grapes, passion fruit tartness, dragon fruit, sangria, stone fruit peach and apricot.

Aftertaste:
Finishes sweet and semi dry with lingering fruit punch and mixed berries and apple flavors. No alcohol in the taste, ruby red clear body, crisp, refreshing and clean mouthfeel with an easy drinkability.

Overall:
Supremely deliciously perfect cider. No flavor too stronger than the other and yet quite the little complex drink and very balanced. One thing that is dead on is that this major fruit punch to the face. It is crazy how the flavors can be distinct and complex with this one. Some ciders don’t get too complex when it comes to flavors but this one is very well made. There is a lot of love put in this one. I highly recommend it if you can find it.

Anime Corner:
Cammy White from Street Fighter was used in this pairing as I wanted to get a character that was close to the colors of the beer label and William Wallace. Cammy fit the bill well since she is from the United Kingdom and she has all the colors. Also with the Mooning of the Scottish Army she fits even more since she is always displaying her rump. She also has war paint as well so that goes well with the William Wallace war paint.

___

Each year they release this beer, they always use different ingredients. I have been fortunate enough to be able to try the 24th and 25th. Today I bring you their 26th. Since I loved the previous years versions, I can only imagine this years version will be insane. I picked this one up at Ramirez Liquors and Kegs in Boyle Heights near downtown Los Angeles. I wish I could of picked up 2 but due to the 1 bottle limit I was unfortunate. I can only hope they have more in stock or if I am lucky to get it again. These types of beers are definitely the ones you want to try regardless of your previous conviction. Each one amazing and every year getting better. So on to the review and cheers!!

25th Anniversary Review (https://brewerianimelogs.wordpress.com/2013/07/22/black-butte-xxv-25th-anniversary-reserve-by-deschutes-brewery/)

Aromas:
Dark chocolate, milk chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon hints, rich pomegranate, raspberries, slight tart cranberries, dark fruit raisins, cherries, smoke hints, dulce de leche caramel, chocolate fudge cake, hazelnut, almond joy, coconut, banana, clove spice, brown sugar, pecan pie, chocolate abuelita, tobacco, molasses, and strawberry preserves on rye bread.

Flavors:
Chocolate covered tart pomegranates, raspberries, cranberries, smokey notes, marshmallows, coconut hints, dark cherries, dark fruit raisins, figs, bananas, clove spice, marshmallow smores, vanilla, oak, bourbon, pecan pie, flan, almond joy, earthy bitterness, chocolate abuelita, strawberry preservers on rye bread, hazelnut nectar, walnuts, pecans, maple bar, molasses, brown sugar, anise hints, chocolate fudge cake, dragon fruit nectar, bubble gum hints and licorice hints.

Aftertaste:
Dark chocolate, earthy notes, tart cranberries, pomegranate, strawberry, banana hints, caramel, vanilla, oak, smokey notes, tobacco, walnuts and pecans. No alcohol in the taste, silky and smooth mouthfeel even easy to drink surprisingly. Dark as the night appearance. Careful with this one as its smoothness will make you want to drink the whole bottle in one sitting.

Overall:
Even more exceptional than the last. Seems like every year they go all out with their release and each one is well up there in terms of flavors and deliciousness. By all means, this very exceptional and I definitely will be looking for this one again assuming I can find it again. I highly recommend this one because a dessert beer in a bottle, the rich flavors will linger and linger for quite a awhile on that palate making each sip just extraordinary delicious!!

Anime Corner:
Midna (Both Forms) from The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princes was chosen once again this year for the Black Butte release. I had chosen her in the previous releases since I wanted to represent the mixing of 2 of the same ale together. One being the the bourbon barrel aged (Twili Midna on the right) and the cocoa nibs and cranberry (Midna on the left). They are both the same person and both are kick ass. The pomegranate and cranberry colors can be see by the crimson in their beautiful eyes, staring seductively at your soul (sweet and tart) taking you to a land of pleasure…Or so this beer makes me feel in that sense. Don’t be fooled though, take your time with this one, she can be misleading and evil but only if you let her be.
