Sah’tea by Dog Fish Head is a 9% ABV Sahti beer. The style, as I explained before, comes from old 9th century Finnish tradition. This special version from Dogfish is made with Black Chai Tea along with the Juniper berries [which is prominent in Sahti Finnish beers] along with rye which is heated up in a wort on top of wood fired rocks. The black tea comes extra. This is my second go at this beer since my last year try. I get this banana and berry flavored bread with a bitter herbal tea background. Some cinnamon, coriander spice, ginger and citrus. Almost reminds me of a Belgian or a Saison. Very damn good and very damn limited that is for sure…. unfortunately :(….even for the Sahti Finnish style of beer…not so common…
2011 Review:
Sah’ Tea is an ale brewed in the 9th century sahti style of Finland. 9%ABV. From the moment I opened the beer I knew I was going to love this one. The smell is that of a saison with fruit. The beer it self is made with bavarian yeast, chai black tea, rye, juniper berries, and wort heated up in wood fire and rocks. The taste is really unique as most of the dogfish head historical brews go. The Bavarian mixed with the spices gives it more of a saison flavor. The finish is left with the sweetness coming from the berries and the mild bitterness of the chai black tea. I think i enjoyed this one a little much. If only they sold this more commonly…it would be like my franzy the 2nd. Wont leave without it :3
