Sin Tax by Mother Earth Brewing is an 8.1% ABV Peanut Butter Imperial Stout

Label:
Why does something so seemingly wrong, have to be so suspiciously right? Something that creeps up on you like lipstick-red nails running up your back, exciting your senses and leaving a lasting impression that keeps you coming back. We used that experience to create Sin Tax.

Premium British crystal and roasted malts meld with a Maris Otter base and American hops, giving way to a brown sugar and peanut butter essence that finishes beautifully. Call it our guilty pleasure. It’s delectable.

Another awesome peanut butter beer. Peanut butter flavored beers are far few in between. One I tried from the East Coast (Liquid Bliss by terrapin), the Karl Strauss Peanut butter cup beer on tap, the Belching beaver Peanut butter milk stout and now this one. I am definitely loving this trend. Each one very different though offering more chocolate or more peanut butter or a good balance of both. This one has been released in many places and I have found it in Total Wine and more, Ramirez Liquors and now even Uncle Henry’s Deli in Downey California. If you get a chance to find this beer, definitely get it. Mother Earth Brewing of San Diego is a growing company and the more they sell the more they will make to reach different people.

Aromas:
Cocoa Crispies and Reese’s peanut butter cup cereal in coffee instead of milk. Rich peanut butter, dark chocolate, mocha, rich brown sugar, earthy notes, cinnamon, nutmeg, raisins hints, marshmallow, butter and honey on toast.

Flavors:
Forward roasty coffee beans, Chocolate, peanut butter, earthy notes, Reese’s peanut butter cup cereal, cocoa crispies, coffee, rich brown sugar, mocha, toffee, raisin hints, marshmallow and peanut butter on toast dipped in double espresso coffee with mild nutella hints.

Aftertaste:
Leaves with more roasted coffee bean and earthy flavors than the peanut butter and dark chocolate but they do linger for a bit which is sweet. A sipping beer with no alcohol in the taste. Full silky and creamy mouth feel. Extra points for that peanut butter and chocolate though.

Overall:
Great beer with enough peanut butter to make it interesting. The balance of roasted malt and sweet peanut butter chocolate is much better so it isn’t overly sweet. Although, there is more coffee than peanut here. Great stuff none the less and a perfect beer.

Anime Corner:
Scanty and Knee-socks, the Demon Sisters from the Panty and Stocking show I chose for this pairing for a couple of reasons. To represent the devil girl on the label, Sin-Tax as an act of collecting debt from the sinners, and the fact that the Demon Sisters always go by their own Rules or RURU. So in the case of the beer, they are out on a mission to collect this debt with sweet vengeance holding flavors of peanut butter on one hand and chocolate on the other. Let’s not forget the Cinnamon spice and brown sugar of their demeanor. Kick Ass!!
