Malta Cuvée by Cervesera Del Montseny of Spain

Rating: 3.8/5

Malta Cuvée by Cervesera Del Montseny of Spain is 5.1% ABV is a Barrel Aged English Pale Ale. This is was recently imported and being sold in some craft brew places. Wally’s Wine of Westwood has this one. When opening this beer, I got a good funky wine whiff like that of JP beer sour beer. The beer, even though it smells like it, actually taste quite different. One of the things emphasized about this beer is how after a year, the ingredients of the beer soak up the wood and oak from the barrel giving this beer a nice smokey and oak like flavor. Like nice campfire but not a burning smoke type of fire. There are some earthy and grassy flavors but are faint. For those in Mexico who have eaten the caramel spread as sold in a small wooden container, some of the beer taste like the remaining caramel as it is scraped off from the wooden surface. There is also a nice honey, bread and cinnamon after taste along with the minor wine and grape sour and smokey flavor. Quite the interesting little beer. There are so many parts in the world, not just in the USA, where craft may be small, but in the corners hold treasures of flavor waiting to be discovered by palettes seeking something above the usual yellow fizzy beers 😛
