Sobre Humano Palena’Ole collaboration by Maui Brewing and Jolly Pumpkin

Sobre Humano Palena’Ole collaboration by Maui Brewing and Jolly Pumpkin is a 6.0%ABV fruit beer made with Passion fruit and Cherries. Each brewery adds their own uniqueness to this ale. Cherries from JP at Michigan mix with the Passion Fruit or Liliko’i of Maui brewing at Hawaii. For those that do not know what passion fruit is, it is a fruit widely used for artificial sweeteners. Many believe passion fruit is just a made up flavor but it actually does exist. The outside of the fruit is purple or yellow. The inside has many seeds with this yellow pulp that almost has a consistency of an orange. It is quite a delicious fruit :P.

Maui Can:
The combination of these fruits along with JP funk and Maui spices create something that is very close to an “Amber Ale”. A common example of an amber ale is that like Fat Tire. However there is more to this beer than an amber. Strangely enough, the initial flavors or Passion fruit and cherry transform into a biscuit bread, vanilla, honey and hazel concoction but still holding the tropical fruit in tact. Literally, they got it right with the name Sobre Humano or Superhuman as the beer does seem to transform from fruity to malty. I would say that if it was just one flavor or cherry and passion fruit it would be average, but this beers does change on you.Jolly Pumpkin 750ml bottle:
Sobre Humano 4391 Palena’Ole is basically the same as the can but just ferment it in barrels with JP wild yeast. Just as I thought. Cloudier than the other beer. JP at its best. Added extra JP wild yeast to provide this beer extra additional flavor. Along with the amber ale feel of the passion fruit and cherry transforming into biscuit bread and vanilla, it take a wine grape and raisin path into realms of higher flavor. Sourness. I guess you can call this the Superhuman Ascended. Maybe this beer may be too sour for some folks but for those that like to explore…this is one is definitely worth picking up as well. What does 4391 mean? oh…that is just the distance in miles between JP in Michigan and Maui in Hawaii 😛

I had to separate the beers in terms of ratings as I needed to see who adds more uniqueness into each formula. For the Maui can, there is only a minor amount of sourness but that sourness is enough to create the change in flavor as I stated earlier. Amber and Sour beer lovers will like this one.
