Elector Imperial Red Ale by New Albanian Brewing is an Amber ale at 7.0% ABV. This beer was made on election day for the elections. Yesterday was the Primary California Election and it is interesting how they like to compare this strong ale to that of the election system. A system in which democracy becomes pointless in the sense of severing party affiliations, commanding people to vote early and vote often. The beer is basically saying that when it comes to truly making a choice of who to vote for, whether for candidates, laws, propositions or in this case, beer, then there is no better choice. As far as amber ales got, it is a good beer for sure. Mixing a great amount of hops with rich malts. We get flavors of pine, citrus and grass which blend with toffee, caramel, hazelnut, and minor bitter dark chocolate. There is also some nice cherry, raisin and biscuit bread sweetness like other amber ales. Some rum after taste with cherry lingering. A lot of amber ales tend to focus on different aspects, like for example, Fat tire focuses on chocolate and caramel biscuit while Tongue Buckler has a lot more cherry. This beer is actually more of biscuit, hazelnut, citrus and cherry appeal. While amber ales aren’t often my preferred style, this beer is pretty good for those that like amber beers.
