2011 Review:
Highway 78 Scotch Ale is a brew collaboration by Green Flash, Pizza Port and Stone brewing companies. At 8.8% alcohol it is a very smooth and delicious malty ale. The smell is a mix of things such as caramel, coffee, chocolate and other sweet dark things. The Flavors is awesome. The scotch is there but it is very well masked by the sweetness of the malts and spices which brings other flavors into the mix such as dark fruits like raisins and figs. Earthy and smoky oak flavors are well present in this one. Reminds me of the Wee heavy but not as strong. Definitely a more complex at that especially if the minds of some of my favorites brewers like Port and Stone were involved. Definitely want to buckle up for this brew ride down the dark lonesome road, of course you wont be driving, someone else will >:)
