This beer is made with heather flowers and Scottish malts. Such Ancient Ales or Scottish Gruit as they are also known, is typical for the style of ales brewed even in the Middle Ages or before. However this one was even older closest to the dawn of civilization where man discovered beer by accident. Leaving barley in the field where it rained until the barley mixed with the water released sugars and started to be fermented by the yeast formation. They actually say some of these ales in those times were brewed for medicinal purposes but also used to stimulate the mind, create euphoria and also as a nice aphrodisiac. Wether this ale has those characteristics I do not know. However, reading history can be fun at times :P. So about this beer. First off it smells like sweet honey/sugar Heinneken. Pilsner and malty. However unlike that beer ofcourse it has more flavors. Flowers, honey, candied sugar, vanilla, some minor bread flavor, citrus, green tea, almost like a saison but not as strong. Everything about the beer is flavorful but at a light dose. Does not leave with a bitter aftertaste but more of a pleasant feel. Those that like pilsners or lagers will like this one if they also like sweet beers. Since it is a refreshing ale, this does have expiration and will not age well. Consume fresh!!! BP
